Porsche reveals yet another special edition 911, the "911 Club Coupe" limited to 69 models. Based on the Carrera T.

What
LordofSpheres@reddit
I'd personally prefer to have a poorly-dressed, clueless guy who has no clue what a car is ask me generic but genuine and interested questions about a Nissan Versa than have some schmuck in brogues and a tie ask me if I got the paint-matched stitching and seatbelt.
What a stupid piece of journalistic writing.
Geofferz@reddit
I probably would to.
Only thing anyone asks me when I tell them I drive an M4 is 'is it the competition?'
To which I say no, I couldn't afford that one, just the baee model
WarDEagle@reddit
AI, right?
Geofferz@reddit
It's either ai or shit journalism these days which is why I basically don't read any arrivals online any more.
WarDEagle@reddit
Yep. The bar is on the floor.
86Austin@reddit
I got you
-some cars are more special than other
-some people are hella nerdy about the special ones
-owning a special one is therefore a special experience
-there is a car club for owners of special ones who are especially enthusiastic about their special car.
-porsche is releasing a new special edition car aimed specifically at hyper-nerds, like the ones in aforementioned car club.
-its hella cool, nerds will love it.
dopil919@reddit
Mark my words. Porsche will follow the same fate as McLaren.
Bonerchill@reddit
bought by the sovereign wealth fund of a petrostate and treated even more like a lifestyle brand than they already are?
Clover-kun@reddit
Porsche releasing another limited edition 911? Must be a day that ends in Y
stoned-autistic-dude@reddit
Next week: the Speedster will come out as an open top GT3 again and we’ll reset the clock to 0.
Porsche releases new LE models so often it’s almost ridiculous. But hey, people will spend money and buy them so why not?
Mindfulmanners@reddit
Not gonna lie the seats are cool. But the amount of special editions that Porsche puts out are pathetic.
willpc14@reddit
I still think McLaren is worse. It's like they produced too many carbon tubs for their road cars and are need to find a way to sell them all.
mintz41@reddit
Do McLaren do that many special editions of their cars? The only ones I can think of are the Le Mans editions of the 650 and 720
lockpickerkuroko@reddit
They're probably referring to the successive Hyper-series cars. P1, P1 GTR, Senna, Senna GTR, LM, Speedtail...
And then the 720S special editions - the Le Mans ones, plus the MSO ones.
gumol@reddit
P1 is 12 years old at this point.
Senna is 7 years old.
It'd be weird if they didn't release newer cars
lockpickerkuroko@reddit
It's less that and more that they all just seem like variations on the same tub and the same overall design language. They all use the same basic 4.0 TTV8, they all broadly sound the same.
Of course, this is absolutely just someone who's never (and will never) be able to sit in any of them yapping on the internet. But when you compare to other special hypercars from other brands: Porsche, 959 to CGT to 918, Ferrari, F40/F50/Enzo/LaFerrari/F80, regardless of what you think of the car, each has been a fundamentally different car. The two generations of Ford GT are completely different cars.
You can make the counterargument that Lambo's special cars are all just tarted up Aventadors (Veneno, Sian, Centenario, and the insult of a modern Countach) too, and I criticize them for the same reason.
AwesomeBantha@reddit
and then there are also the Sabre and the Elva
stakoverflo@reddit
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McLaren_720S#Variants
720S, Spider, "MSO Apex Collection", 765, 720S Le Mans, 765LT Spider
Quite a few different versions of essentially 1 car.
I do kinda feel like Porsche is "taking the lead" with too many special editions though
Leonardo_Liszt@reddit
They’re not really special editions? Think it’s a false equivalency to compare it to what Porsche are doing.
caterham09@reddit
"when everyone's special, no one will be"
theBdub22@reddit
Porsche drivers do have something in common with Corvette drivers. . .
AwesomeBantha@reddit
Corvettes don’t have nearly as many special editions

ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
If you ask the owners, every configuration is a special edition
madwolfa@reddit
Age?
_galaga_@reddit
This is my 911. There are many like it but this one is mine…
masterventris@reddit
I wonder, are there more special edition 911s or more "final edition - no really this time" Lambos?
SnikySquirrel@reddit
It’s like they’re trying to rival 2023 Dodge for most blatant cashgrabs in the industry
NotFastEnoughYet@reddit
To be fair, just about every manufacturer that can get away with it (i.e. make it legitimately profitable without tarnishing their brand) does it... Especially whenever there's an anniversary of a major sports car, it gets milked.
SharkBaitDLS@reddit
It’s honestly not even interesting anymore. They’re just collector bait for folks that will buy them, never drive them, and just lose money as they sit doing nothing and appreciating at a lower rate than any other investment would.
Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit (OP)
There will actually be 70 models made, but Porsche is going to keep 1 bringing the number of actual customers that will own one down to 69.
Another one of those will be raffled off.
Leaving 68 models to buy reserved exclusively for Porsche Club of America members.
caterham09@reddit
It looks like a couple cool visual details are changed, but this appears to be mostly a Carrera T for likely a 6 figure price bump
Skensis@reddit
People love paying inflated prices for Porsche exclusivity, when you can just get a 1:1 spec corvette for MSRP like my uncle Jim.
AWD_OWNZ_U@reddit
Can‘t get a manual Corvette.
SireEvalish@reddit
Just doing it for the meme. I love it.
Ok_Top55@reddit
Cool, another exclusive Porsche for the 1%. How about making a special edition the rest of us can actually afford for once.
GoldenState15@reddit
If they can sell more expensive products why would they go out of their way to make less money off of you
woodsides@reddit
Can they make a 50% margin on those like they can on these? If not then why would they?
strongmanass@reddit
Special editions are, by definition, exclusive. A special edition for everyone priced out of their normal cars 1) wouldn't be a special edition, and 2) would be immediately bought by flippers and then re-listed for the actual market value of a Porsche.
kon---@reddit
What's Porsche's margin on the base 911? $50k?
ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
It’s probably not that high, but they kill the margin on options.
kon---@reddit
911 Carrera base is $128K for a $60k car.
CortaCircuit@reddit
Too many models
8N-QTTRO@reddit
I like it, and I'm glad they're celebrating the PCA, but like... do we really need another random special edition?

Confused because the article says 70... for 70th anniversary.

Porsche's keeping one for themselves, as the article says...

Those wheels are ugly, which is rare for Porsche.
hi_im_bored13@reddit
All of their new wheel designs are mid. The T doesn't have a single good silver classic option, the new wheels on the c4s look like they came from an ev, who knows what they're doing
bandito-yeet-dorito@reddit
IMHO the wheels look cool, but they dont match a 911. Something futuristic like a Taycan might look good with them, or the super aggressively styles Audi RS cars.

A special edition car distributed to PCA members via a draw is quite nice to see. I like what they've done here.
NetworkStatic@reddit
The Club Coupe has been around for a long while, not really a new model. At least going back to 997 generation there are Club Coupes.
roro_mush@reddit
Have to give Porsche credit, they understand their customer base.
R_V_Z@reddit
Wealthy and gullible!
RevvCats@reddit
When I used to work in Switzerland I was out drinking one night and struck up a conversation with a watch salesman. They were hilarious, they were going on and on at how much money people throw at “limited” production watches where the only thing different about them was silly superficial shit. As soon as you engrave that magical 1/100 on the case the thing sells itself.

Oh wow I care so much about this thing I’ll never see in my life that only rich posers will buy

I can see this being called the "FakeTaxi Edition" later on.
