ULPT: UK - buying aircon and returning within 30 days

With the horrible weather coming up (aka a gazillions degrees) in London and my poor dog absolutely hating the heat, I was wondering if I could potentially buy a portable air conditioner from Argos or somewhere similar that actually works and is good, and then return it after a couple of weeks once the heat dies down again. Argos policy says, items that are retuned have to be unused, but maybe there's still a way.
I've lost my job very recently and can't justify spending GBP 500+ on a good unit which I might only end up using for two weeks out of an entire year.
And yes, I do need it - our flat reaches well above 30 degrees and it's really unbearable for my autistic self and my pup 🫠all tips and tricks welcome!

Few years back we rented a place where the central a/c sucked. We went out and bought 2 window units from Lowe's. Made sure to buy ones that had those plastic straps and the top of the box just lifts off, not ones that were taped shut. We carefully slide the straps off making sure not to cut or damage them. Then we used them for the week we were there, packaged them back up, slipped the packaging straps back on and returned them to Lowe's. They looked unopened so they just refunded us.

You don't have to spend that much; https://www.homebase.co.uk/en-uk/costway-white-8000btu-portable-air-conditioner-with-dehumidifier-fan/p/0666650

Buy it online so distance selling rules apply. Many places (think Amazon) do free returns for 30 days. I'm making do with drinking lots of cold water.

Distance selling rules specify 14 days - some companies might offer more, but two weeks is all that's protected by regulation.
