so I'm trying to build a sleeper OptiPlex 3060 SFF I'm putting in 32 GB RAM currently have an i5 but I have an AMD Ryzen 7 can I put this in? Everywhere I look every thing just says "too expensive" but I want to use my Ryzen 7 are there other components I would have to get/replace I don't know a lot about this stuff so any help is appreciated

Intel and AMD do not use the same socket types, so you probably can't put an Ryzen 7 in replacement to an i5

so does that mean a new motherboard?

Probably. Also it could be harder to replace then a motherboard on a traditional desktop.

so would an i9 be a better chioce?

Depends, see what socket type the i5 uses and then find a better cpu with the same socket type. Also, beware of bottlenecking.

whats bottlenecking?
hamburgerc00l@reddit
It's when the gpu or cpu limits the performance of the other part.

i found AMD and Intel use different sockets

im trying to make this thing very fast and powerful because my specialty is breaking games so maybe should i upgrade the power adapter?

Since you want to make a sleeper case, perhaps 3dprint one that mimics the Optiplex, but that has the appropriate design internally to accept standard parts? That might be a better approach.

Yes.
