This one made me laugh so hard!
SparkyCollects1650@reddit
After my wife and I got married 20 years ago, my parents had our 1st address. We've moved 5 times and all they have is our PO Box.
Wouldn't be hard to find me, but it's not like they gave a damn as long as I checked in with a card on the birthdays and holidays.
Not a really strong relationship with my folks.
Even less strong with my in-laws.
Iko87iko@reddit
In the words of the late, great bb king, "nobody loves me but my mother and she could be jivin too"
StillC5sdad@reddit
I'm at the mall. They'll pick me up eventually.
RoseyGray@reddit
Mine left for work sometime in 1982. Haven’t seen them since.
Rare_Mistake_6617@reddit
If they just repurpose those malls into senior living centers, we would never have to leave! First dibs on the arcade.
StillC5sdad@reddit
And I'd already be home. I'll meet you at the arcade after I stop at Orange Julius
LordChauncyDeschamps@reddit
Mmmm, Orange Julius
forestcridder@reddit
You'll get a call to customer service over the intercom soon.
Subject-Ad-8055@reddit
Usually when we tear down these malls we find a few kids still sitting in a back room waiting for their Boomer moms to come pick them up most of them are now with gray hair and in their 50s and they just sitting there in the hallways in the mall eating a pretzel just my mom will come pick me up later..
BadEarly9278@reddit
This needs a shitload more upvotes.
We need to adult swin a sitcom out if this.
pequaywan@reddit
all the shops have been slowly closing down but I’m still here.
StillC5sdad@reddit
Can I get a ride then??
truthcopy@reddit
Our parents may not know where we are, but we track our kids everywhere they go.
echolm1407@reddit
What kids?
LordChauncyDeschamps@reddit
Hell yes
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I think that is just sad, sorry. No trust.
ClockSpiritual6596@reddit
Or our kids like track you is too.
spavolka@reddit
My two “boys” are 38 and 33. I don’t really have to track them. The oldest works with me.
truthcopy@reddit
Well, yeah. My adult son is still on my family plan and I COULD still track him, but I only do if he says he’s coming over for dinner (and to do laundry of course) and doesn’t show up. Hahah.
Cronus6@reddit
I didn't. Mine are all adults now.
I did my job, they survived.
rodeler@reddit
Not this GenXer.
TheRealBlueJade@reddit
Not this one, either. How are they ever going to survive on their own if they never experience life on their own terms?
TheBadgerUprising@reddit
You guys have parents?
_TallOldOne_@reddit
I had a sperm donor and donor fetus. But they died.
Not much difference really.
Status_Reality_6238@reddit
Mom has Dementia and dad has Parkinson. They both live at my house.
Cronus6@reddit
Mine are dead.
CaptainLollygag@reddit
Mine are on the mantle in jars. Oh, they're not dead, they're really big jars.
(They're actually all dead.)
PB3Goddess@reddit
You weren't supposed to leave them in the jars that long, Lolly!
One of mine is passed. I get filled in on the other through my siblings, only actually hear from her every 6 weeks or so.
(To be fair, she is busy taking care of her 91 year old (5th) husband. Lol.)
Beautiful-Mainer@reddit
Mine too, but they honestly didn’t GAF about me when they were alive, so nothings changed.
Cronus6@reddit
My mom was awesome. I miss her everyday.
My dad was a dick. I still miss him once in a while though.
Beautiful-Mainer@reddit
My dad wasn’t abusive, or hateful like my mother, and I knew he loved me, despite the lies my mother would feed me. I’m the only girl out of 5 kids, and my brothers were her favorites, and she never even tried to hide it.
this_kitty68@reddit
My mother told me my dad “left” us my entire life. I found out about 10 years ago that SHE left him! All I can say is I wish I was caring for my father now instead of my lying, narcissistic, demented mother.
Beautiful-Mainer@reddit
Omdg! I am so sorry. Why are people like this?!
this_kitty68@reddit
Narcissistic personality disorder.
ProfMooody@reddit
Same. So nothing has essentially changed.
Scarletbegonias413@reddit
Same
zsreport@reddit
I still do
kansaikinki@reddit
Lost one to Alzheimer's. Other is still kicking and is just as stubborn as always.
echolm1407@reddit
One passed. One is feral.
bannana@reddit
nope, dead for a long-ass time.
Wonderful_Mix977@reddit
Right?!😂😂
OMGfractals@reddit
I came here to say this. ☝️
RayBuc9882@reddit
“How are you?”
“Fine”
“Everything okay?”
“Yes”
“Okay, talk to you later”
“Bye”
ONROSREPUS@reddit
This is how I still talk to my wife.
Goodmourning504@reddit

" i got to go im heading to bingo with mary i talk to you latter"
Kid_supreme@reddit
The other day my sister texted me. It read: OMG Mom was being dramatic and went on about, "I don't think I'll see my son again". I thought to myself, It only took 40 years for her to worry about seeing her son. I reckon going almost "no contact" for the last 20 made her finally realize. Don't worry folks, I'm going to keep it that way. I'm so much more content.
Bonafideago@reddit
I've been no contact with my mom for the last 14 years. Last I heard she moved across the country, no idea where.
Best decision of my life.
IDEKWTSATP4444@reddit
No contact for nine years.
Scarletbegonias413@reddit
Both of my parents are gone now, but once at dinner with my dad he said “My children never come to see me!” I said well “I’m literally right here next to you. You’re retired but I have a kid to raise and I have to be at work tomorrow. You live an hour away. Call and tell me when you come over.”
IDEKWTSATP4444@reddit
💯☝️🔥💀☠️🖤💪🤷
ClockSpiritual6596@reddit
Stay feral , be feral , always.
rheagmb@reddit
I’ve spent more time alive without my parents than with them. They REALLY don’t know where I am lol
shinyshannon@reddit
I had surgery 2 weeks ago and my mom still doesn't know.
upsetmojo@reddit
Mine are both gone. Me and the’Ol man were tight and I miss him a lot. My mom and I were very similar to each other and we did not always get along, but I miss her too…
BuckyRainbowCat@reddit
I was trying to talk to my mom on the phone today and she told me she needed to hang up because a show she wanted to watch was coming on. Nothing has changed.
Thefireninja99@reddit
I was deployed for 6 months before my parents even knew I left the country.
Rearmudflap9009@reddit
My mom has Alzheimer’s, so you’re totally correct.
CircusFreakonLSD@reddit
We don't need the boomers knowing where we are. If they knew, they'd somehow make it about them.
Disastrous-Tour4359@reddit
This is the most accurate Gen X motto I’ve ever seen.
HHSquad@reddit
Except it also applies for most of Generation Jones also.
Lumpus-Maximus@reddit
Yes, but now the reason is Alzheimer’s.
BigFitMama@reddit
Jeff Bezo's mom probably tells her friends he is "still trying to get his little online bookstore off the ground! But don't worry we still pay his flip phone bill."
Then she goes on the next two hours how special and smart and exceptional she is and how everything was harder back then and she doesn't think any of her kids are trying that hard and she "can't figure out why her grandkids never come to visit?"
BigFitMama@reddit
Anecdote - Four days ago I was awarded a very large sum for a grant proposal I wrote. Because of tensions in the USA we got very close to having that cancelled. I lobbied up the wazzoo bringing 5000 people together in a new reddit community to save our programs.
I was also the first person in the nation to be called by my Congressman to Congratulate me and my team.
I saved my job, my house, and four of my teams jobs.
I told my mother that the house was saved and my job was saved and she frowned deeply at me like I had done something very bad and asked me "what Grant was that?"
It was dumbfounded because since February I've been very upset. During all this lobbying I was going to lose my job and I was talking about alternative plans and new jobs to take.
And that was not followed by "a good job or congratulations. Or that's amazing. I'm so proud of you." She said nothing. And kept looking like I had wounded her personally by doing this horrible thing.
Dandelient@reddit
Congratulations!! I think you're fabulous and keeping going when you were surrounded by chaos is epic. I hope you're able to experience some peace and relief with the completion of this challenge, maybe even take a little break before continuing.
I have not managed anything of that caliber, but my mom still thinks I suck because I don't keep a tidy house. Those university degrees are just clutter I guess ;) Some of our parents have never really seen us, and that is a failure of theirs.
Continue to shine, and don't let your mother's failure diminish your accomplishments.
BigFitMama@reddit
Thank you! My team is happy with me and that's what matters. I can't keep seeking out parental love when their mental illness makes it impossible.
Bright_Increase_6136@reddit
This is great. I need to go blast this on my parents Facebook.Lol!!!’
BluebirdLimp4295@reddit
Most of them have dementia now, or we went no contact years ago, but I am totally down with them still having no idea where we are. There are also the random dead parents, like my dad, but I miss him, and I hope he haunts my house every once in a while.
Subject-Ad-8055@reddit
My mom clearly still dont care....😭
Imtifflish24@reddit
One’s dead, the other who ignored me growing up is now CONSTANTLY texting me😭
tiggertimbuktoo@reddit
Haha the one parent that’s still around hasn’t known since the late 90s
itallsucks80@reddit

ThatMowmentWhen@reddit
But we “knew” where they were! They were watching Dallas on a [ahem] color TV!
Little-Efficiency336@reddit
Oh boy…that’s a memory If there ever was one.
oscar-the-bud@reddit
And they’ll never know. I don’t talk to my asshole parents anymore.

Mr_Chicano@reddit
I haven't seen my mom in two weeks, I work two jobs. She called me today to yell at me why I haven't gone to visit her. She expects me there on Tuesday for dinner.
This meme made me laugh.
mzamour@reddit
It's crazy cus even though I could go run all over town ( I grew up on the Rez in A small town in Idaho) she always knew where we were at haha once my bestie and me snuck out the house through my bdrm window & we put wigs on the pillows and made the blankets look like we were in the beds sleeping and forgot to take the knife out of the door before we left; and my mom had to come tell me she was going with my dad (who was a emt at time) so to listen for my baby sister but we were gone.. we were uptown kicking it outside with about 6 others emailing a bowl of some brown dirt weed and we could hear my moms car speeding and switching gears(she had a stick shift lol) & next thing you know she pops up right in front of us 🤦🏽♀️🤣🤣😬 all she said was "you girls get your ass in this car" and we did!!! And my bestie begged her to please be in punishment with me cus her dad would go off on both of worst than my mom haha and we ended up on dish and house cleaning duty all summer but she still let us kick after we were done 🙌🏽🫶🏽 my mom is actually a great mother and good person; but we never did that again haha

dfjdejulio@reddit
Hahaha, yeah. When I was in college, 400 miles away from home, to keep them from being too involved, I moved without telling them when or where. Twice. (That's what it took.)
(Now, my dad doesn't know where I am because he's dead, and my mom doesn't know where I am because we've been no-contact for decades.)

Facts! To this day when I call my parents, my mom’s first question is where are you?
diarrhea_syndrome@reddit
Is this the way things should be or are we advocating this? Personally I do miss kids having some freedom.
Aren’t today’s kids mostly Gen-x’s kids?
Who has kids here and who lets them roam freely?
mangoserpent@reddit
Gen X is not feral they are just copying boomers with their own myths about who they are.
diarrhea_syndrome@reddit
Though i agree that this has boomer energy, there is truth in it. I miss the days when everyone wasn’t so connected by devices.
Ok_Schedule5017@reddit
My dad has passed but if my mom wasn’t currently across the table from me, she wouldn’t know.
i__hate__you__people@reddit
The real problem is that those same boomer parents who never cared where we were back then will now call the cops if they see a kid playing at a park without a parent. Or walking 3 blocks to the library without a parent. Their brains have turned to mush and the same parents who ignored their own children have now decided that child kidnappers lurk behind every bush and tree.
LlamaMamaMandi@reddit
Mine at least stopped giving me the amazing advice to “don’t come home pregnant, arrested or dead.”

With all the silver alerts they should be asking us if we know where our parents are.
SunSting84@reddit
Used to travel way out of the actual planned evening events to make a call at somebody's house to dupe our parents into thinking that's where we were, bassed off of caller ID. Irrefutable proof.

Honestly you are the worst generation. Your parents wanted you to get kidnapped but were disappointed when you kept coming home.
90Carat@reddit
Growing up, my Mom couldn't have cared less about where I was. Now, if I don't tell her I went away for a few days, even overnight somewhere, she gets all pissy. I'm 53, have my own family, and don't leave near her.
HillbillyInCakalaky@reddit
Mine lost track of me once I got a paper route. Had no clue if I was coming or going. They were just glad I was one less kid for them to give $ to. They still have no clue where I am. Just a general area.
Nelyahin@reddit
Truth. My father may have my assess but has a zero clue what I do with my life at all.

Same... A good chunk of our parents were Silent Gen, and the surviving ones would be in mid to late 80's or into their 90's at this point. Hard to imagine too many still being here... I could really use my mother's advice on some things still.
Flat_6_Theory@reddit
Mine too. Makes it easier to avoid them when coming home late and stoned.
trpclshrk@reddit
Unfortunately not true, things have reversed. I know where my mom is, and she’s not changing 😢. I don’t know where my dad is 90% of the time. Prolly at a restaurant or chasing his married, semi-grifting pseudo-girlfriend. He’s def not spending quality time with grandkids. He knows I’m at work or home with my family. Right now I’m dog sitting bc he and my sisters family are out of town though.
Incoming therapy dump, proceed at your own volition, with warning: “Girlfriend” is a masseuse. A real one I hope. We don’t have money, so it’s not so much “stealing his money/our inheritance” or anything. Just sucking some SS and more from an old, lonely man :/. I’m the most anti-money for attention guy you’ll ever meet. Hate the idea of strippers, prostitutes, high maintenance people, not on moral terms (don’t care), but financially. I ain’t paying $1 to see boobs or get attention. I also work in the retail business, and have had a few close female friends who are bartenders, stewardesses, etc.. The grift is so real it’s insane. I don’t blame the women (or occasional man), but my dad becoming the sucker is too much.
Impossible_Medium362@reddit
its likely because most of our parents are now dead (but even if still alive, they are likely to not give a $hit)
mbutchin@reddit
I'd be frightened if they DID-- They've been dead for quite some years, now.
