Why do I think this never would have happen. Chyna may have wanted to look like Xena but I have a suspicion it would not be good for Lucy Lawless’ career as it might have strongly typecasted her career going forward.

No, I wanted her on Hercules. He infrequently had hard as nails women on that show. When he did, they ALWAYS worked for Hera. I’d love to see her on there, the evil version of Atalanta.

Like dripping with delicious evilness like you can’t even imagine. But she’s a completely independent beast — not created for the purpose of killing Hercules. Just… doing some crazy mess for a couple of episodes and being damned good at it.

They made Atalanta sexy by making her sweet on top of that amazing body. They could have done the opposite by having Chyna be sexy by being absolutely unlikeable.

The only problem is her muscles are bigger than KS which is why it probably never happened.

They also weren’t into how she wanted in on the million dollar boys club where Stone Cold Steve Austin and The Rock (before Hollywood) were sitting in. Legend goes she went into a meeting with Vince McMahon and then boyfriend Paul “Triple H” Levesque to discuss her contract. Her Playboy covers (ehhh) were best sellers, at the time, within the women’s division. At the time, she was the highest paid performer, top merch seller and clear fan favorite despite being a “heel”. At that point, she pushed for a pay increase since she was next on the WWF/WWE to Hollywood pipeline, had a major storyline, was the first woman to enter the men’s Royal Rumble, hold the Intercontinental title (a first) so she was basically not wrong to ask for the bump. She thought Paul would go to bat for her and to an extent he did but his relationship with Stephanie McMahon on screen started impacting off screen. She had been rebuffed on the pay increase and -again, legend/actually happened from fan standpoint- they tried to tank her. Then they saw the possibility with her and the late Eddie Guerrero and they worked a great angle with Latino Heat (she was his mamacita) that put them over.

She fell into drugs and that was the out the company needed for her. Sean Walkman (aka XPac formerly 123 Kid) was her boyfriend at the time and they’d fallen into a hole, made a tape that leaked and essentially destroyed what was left.

In 2016 she was doing bit wrestling stuff again in Japan while working as an ESL teacher. There’s a documentary that’s heartbreaking because it’s essentially the last year of her life.

The WWE has worked wonders to pretend she didn’t contribute to the current women’s roster (Jade Cargill, Rhea Ripley, Ivy Nile, Jordynn Grace are all of Triple H’s type) inducting her into the Hall of Fame as part of a faction, not individual despite fans very aggressive campaigns to make it happen.

Her story is definitely a hero quest and she would’ve been amazing on a syndicated series like this, Mutant X, Cleopatra 2525 (her vs Victoria Pratt?) but the company didn’t want to not have control on her and other talent that were easy to prey on.

Her overall in-ring style was definitely intentionally modeled after Xena and they made that no secret, they were 100% capitalizing on Xena’s popularity with Chyna

But Joanie wanted plastic surgery anyway, I don’t think the surgery was to look like Xena. She always had a strong jaw and the things she did while body building made things worse and the fans were shouting ugly things at her.
