Fireworks until 4AM
Posted by picantemexican@reddit | Dallas | View on Reddit | 139 comments
I was driving home at 2am over the Hunt bridge and there were fireworks still going off by the Dallas Omni.
I could hear fireworks until 4am!!!
I was stunned by the amount of people celebrating this weekend. I've never seen so much patriotism.
God Bless America!
nounsofassemblage@reddit
Love of our country ≠ love of our government
picantemexican@reddit (OP)
That goes without saying. I don't get the politicization like why even mention the government
pamalamTX@reddit
Because women like me have less rights than you, I'm assuming a man, in this country. I'm not going to celebrate that.
picantemexican@reddit (OP)
Hey that's your right. As an immigrant, I love this country and choose to celebrate 🎈
spencerak@reddit
As an immigrant, you are being aggressively targeted and deported without due process. But by all means, continue to ignore that… that’s your right.
picantemexican@reddit (OP)
We fled Mexico after two family members were raped and murdered. This country took me in. It gave me peace and a superior quality of life. It educated me. It made me a millionaire. I owe everything to this country. Consider opening your mind a little bit. We don't need or want white salvation
FourScores1@reddit
The people who do not feel particularly patriotic right now are the people that want to take more people like you in.
The people who feel very patriotic right now are sending people like you back to Mexico regardless of anything. They don’t seem to care if you’re a citizen.
Maybe that clarifies things.
picantemexican@reddit (OP)
You're claiming they're deporting US citizens now?
FourScores1@reddit
Are you serious? Hundreds of US born children have been deported with their parents.
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/show/children-who-are-u-s-citizens-deported-along-with-foreign-born-mothers-attorneys-say
picantemexican@reddit (OP)
My timbers are shivered.
Y'all are delusional. Obama who I voted for ended up deporting way more people. They call him the deporter in chief. But they're not talking about that on NPR
FourScores1@reddit
Obama did it legally. Not about the numbers.
Soggy_Soft5475@reddit
You can’t call yourself an immigrant if you’re a US citizen
Manotto15@reddit
That makes no sense. An immigrant is anyone who moved her from another country. Immigrants can eventually gain citizenship.
Soggy_Soft5475@reddit
You’re right, my issue is if you have citizenship since birth, not naturalization. If you’re born a citizen you can’t really say you understand what it’s like to be an immigrant, and I say that as an immigrant myself married to a US citizen. We both emigrated from Mexico, but she was never required to “prove her worth” in order to obtain the chance to live in this country, or having her lawful presence be tied to a specific job/school.
xanoran84@reddit
Yes. Yes, you most definitely can.
Brett_Hulk@reddit
What?😂
studiosupport@reddit
ICE has deported U.S. citizens as far back as 2015.
Thin-Palpitation6379@reddit
ICE can not deport a legal US citizen. In fact, the government or any entity in the US can not deport a US citizen.
spencerak@reddit
They can without due process… that’s literally the whole point
Thin-Palpitation6379@reddit
Aren't they only getting deported if they are illegal or have violent/drug crimes or something?
FourScores1@reddit
No.
Puskarich@reddit
You must be a time traveler from six months ago
Thin-Palpitation6379@reddit
I'm sorry. I just can't understand the uproar, and it's just absurd to me what the hell is going on. You break a law and suffer the consequences. You steal, speed, kill, have drugs, whatever it is, you break the law, and you are punished for it with a ticket, jail, imprisonment. If you break the law for entering illegally, then you still broke a law!! What part of that is hard for people to understand??!! Should the government just look the other way because people get together and suddenly decide "that law is stupid"? Maybe we should ban together and say stop giving speeding tickets, you government pricks, and stop forcing me to have car insurance or health insurance. Instead, one day, everyone wakes up and decides hey ICE is deporting people, and even though they have been deporting people for a long time, suddenly it's bullshit they are doing it. Suddenly, a law they have been trying to uphold, people want them to stop doing it. Why should we have any laws then? Let's just be a lawless country, shall we? Other countries enforce illegal immigration but the United States should just stop enforcing it. We should have the purge too cause why not? Let's just let each individual person get a list of laws mailed to them every year, and each year, they can just pick one they don't have to follow anymore. Maybe next year you get to decide you don't have to follow drug laws, and then the year after that being charged with rape doesn't apply to you, then maybe you'll tier up high enough being charged with murder doesn't apply to you. Eventually, you just won't have any laws to follow. How cool is that??
BlueIndian1975@reddit
But you got it
MoeKneeKah@reddit
Ahh, the ol’ “I got mine, so fuck you” mentality. Super healthy
do-not-want@reddit
“We have money so we’ll be fine”
ICE has more money now and they don’t like you, i wish you a gentle awakening.
OddSand7870@reddit
You forgot an important caveat that f your statement. Mainly the illegal part.
spencerak@reddit
The absence of due process completely negates legal or illegal… that’s kind of the entire point…
PlentyAsparagus2041@reddit
Lol enjoy your “freedom” day

Cringe. Go to Saudi Arabia and see how much you’ll be begging to be treated like a woman in America.

Ah yes the good ole straw man argument of "women have it bad elsewhere so you should be grateful" 😂
TheLastModerate982@reddit
Women have equal rights in America. Right to kill a baby is not womens rights.

southernmayd@reddit
Ah so because someone else has it worse means that they have no right to complain? What a stupid fucking take

Letsgotowar69420@reddit
southernmayd@reddit
Unfortunately if you get raped, the state will make you have the rapist's child because no abortions are okay. Seems like equal rights to me
Letsgotowar69420@reddit
I also don’t believe a baby loses any value being a baby or rape, all lives deserve to have a chance even ones born of horrendous circumstances as that, one of my cousins was born of that and he is an incredible man
Letsgotowar69420@reddit
But men also can’t have babies so that will never be equal those rights can’t be shared
Letsgotowar69420@reddit
That is one I disagree with so I will conserve concede to that point, I am ok with abortions in case of rape, incest, medically necessary, or sever deformities. Other than that people are completely responsible for their actions. They can give the child up for adoption. There are millions of families wanting kids. But that also being said we need to fix that system because there are more families than children waiting and the foster system is very messed up
emilytullytime@reddit
Nice straw man argument. Yes women have less rights in the Middle East so I should just be happy with still not having equality in America? Didn’t realize the bar was so low. Go touch grass
Thin-Palpitation6379@reddit
What rights do women not have that men do in the United States? I am just curious.
emilytullytime@reddit
Legally speaking, men and women in the U.S. are supposed to have the same rights. There’s nothing on the books that says “men can do X, women can’t.” But the real-life experience of those rights? That’s a whole different story.
This is where the difference between equality and equity matters.
Equality is everyone getting the same rules. Equity is everyone having a fair shot, considering how those rules play out.
I’m a woman in Texas. If I got pregnant tomorrow—no matter the situation—I’d be legally forced to carry that pregnancy to term. That’s not just unfair, it’s terrifying. I don’t have full autonomy over my body anymore. So yeah, maybe men don’t have “more rights” on paper, but in this case, they don’t have to face the consequences of laws like this. That’s a massive imbalance.
Then there’s the wage gap. Sure, it’s illegal to pay women less for the same job, but women still make less overall. It’s not just about pay—it’s how women are tracked into lower-paying roles, passed over for promotions, punished for having kids, or expected to do unpaid caregiving. The system’s just not set up for us to succeed in the same way.
So, do men have more rights? Not officially. But do they benefit more from how society is structured? Yeah. And if you ignore that difference, you’re missing the whole point
Thin-Palpitation6379@reddit
So I know 3 guys right now, 2 of them have wives that have the same position, just a different company. Both wives make more than their husbands. The third guy, although his wife and him have different jobs entirely she makes way more than him. So, I think when we choose the narrative, we can dictate the story to coincidence that with the point we are trying to prove. I think until the end of human existence, there is always going to be males or females, races, you name it, that are always going to feel like they are getting the short end of the stick. You ask men they say they are at a disadvantage in divorces with alimony and child support or even getting custody when the mother is unfit. Perhaps one day we will see kids stand on their soap box on how it's unfair how we can send them to die in wars yet they aren't allowed to smoke a cigarette yet or even get drunk...but they can go get ambushed in war and beheaded or held hostage. Can't get a tattoo until they are of age when it is their body and they should decide. So I think these feelings of being shorted are never going to end. Who's right, and who's wrong. I'll never know. I still don't know how I feel about abortion. I feel like two consenting adults should be responsible enough to take precautions to prevent unplanned pregnancy, and abortion shouldn't be a form of birth control. I do feel like women who are raped/non-consenting should have 100% total control of what happens as far as the pregnancy is concerned. If they want to give birth or abort, then that should be their choice, and no one should be able to tell them otherwise. On the other end, it is the woman's body. No one owns your body other than you, so ultimately, women should be the decision maker when it comes to their body regardless. I'm stuck in the middle of the subject because I see both sides. It's a never-ending loop in my head.
Letsgotowar69420@reddit
We are equal in America, I can do anything a man can and you saying you can’t is really slow
emilytullytime@reddit
You not understanding the difference between equality and equity shows me that you are very slow.
RemyDennis@reddit
.... That's not the argument? The argument is more restrictions on women than men. Men don't have to worry about child birth. But women are fucked if they get pregnant.
CharlieTeller@reddit
they didnt say "less rights than a woman in the middle east". This is classic amateur ignorant debate. " They said less rights than YOU." Which is true.

Yagermeister@reddit
You say this in the comfort of your own home and freedom. And yet there are women in this world who dream to have the same rights you have.
redd_hott@reddit

noble_land_mermaid@reddit
...You realize this holiday commemorates the signing of a document that outlines peoples' grievances with their government, right?
EtchASketchNovelist@reddit
It sounds like you're saying that this is obvious. Unfortunately, the concept of nationalism has been so skewed that it's now a widely held belief that "if you don't like Trump you hate America".
Even though it "goes without saying", we've got to hammer this point repeatedly because freedom means that each person has the right to hold their own unique political views (or frankly, they can hold a non-unique view as well). Folks should be allowed to vote against Republicans and express their views that this administration is actively harming our economy and our citizens.
However, Republicans have trouble accepting that inconvenient truth.
Historically, Republicans always had trouble with the concept of freedom. Remember when folks would say that it should be illegal to speak outwardly against the president during times of war during the GWB presidency? Yeah, that was weird.
Disgruntled_Fig@reddit
Wow. 😬

You don't get the politicization of the 4th of July?
Maybe you should sit the next one out then bud.
Werthy71@reddit

I totally get wanting to stay in your bubble and block everything out, but republicans have successfully proven that inciting anger is far more effective than playing nice when it comes to motivating people to act. So now the other side must do the same.
Yagermeister@reddit
Yikes
notamyokay@reddit
I don't think it has anything to do with not liking joy and fun, and everything to do with, why must the entire neighborhood suffer bc you wanna blow shit up all night? Go outside the city if you wanna do that. Being inconsiderate to everyone when you live in a highly populated area is really just a shitty way to be.
notamyokay@reddit
We live by Woodrow and it was going till 430am. My poor dog, even sedated, she couldn't calm down 😭☹️🫠
wlcm2jurrassicpark@reddit
Fuck fireworks. Blowing shit up all night and causing fires and injuries is not patriotic. People have to sleep and have jobs. Veterans have ptsd. Dogs and wildlife go missing and die from firework accidents.
YaGetSkeeted0n@reddit
To say nothing of the jackasses shooting off guns. At least fireworks tend to go one direction and finish off there; bullets follow “what goes up, must come down.”
wlcm2jurrassicpark@reddit
both things are dangerous, inconsiderate, and whack. Also more injuries, deaths, and house fires that occur on 4th of July are from fireworks not guns. It’s not even close. Fuck fireworks. It’s a truly selfish thing to do, so you can see some flashy lights for a few minutes, while destroying the neighborhood and leaving trash everywhere
draxiom@reddit
Honestly, maybe inadvertently for you, literally everything you just described is emblematic of the American project and its influence on all levels of existence on this planet.
