What is this called?

Last time i sailed i found my sheets rub on my teak handrails. I found one of these to help redirect the sheet but i cant for the life of me find another one 🤣 Until then when i tack, I’m forced to run forward and switch the track to the opposite side. (Joking) Thanks in advance.

Isnt that a car for the genoa/jib track?
planetm3@reddit
Ring style mast car.
WestCartographer9478@reddit (OP)
Thanks so much! I may end up gettinf another block and car as i think the line would chaff over time using this?
FarmerGreedy2557@reddit
check out garhauer they sell that kind of stuff at a better price than most, and its a legit family business
jaxn@reddit
That is not for running a line through the ring. It’s for clipping a spinnaker pole to the mast - there would be a track on the front of the mast.
Significant_Tie_3994@reddit
...or on the deck centerline up to the cabin bump, which is the Way Butler (PBUH) designed it (STR clue: the CD linky)

Ahhhh thank you, im still a green horn but understand friction!

Literally saw this swinging from the spinnaker halyard last weekend and thought “oh man that’s gonna be a tough one to identify”

Or ring car

when tacking a Jib sheet catcher
IanSan5653@reddit
I think I have one if you want it (free for the cost of shipping). Let me know and I'll look around for it.
MrRourkeYourHost@reddit
Word of warning...don't put that on an aluminum track. Brass and Al don't like each other.
WhatsMyNameAgain1701@reddit
Is that a jib sheet lead car? Looks like it would be for an older type boat.
Successful_Cod_8904@reddit
It's to catch your jibsheet while tacking.
WhatsMyNameAgain1701@reddit
Hey jacka$$. OP asked what it was called…not what it does. It is a vintage jib sheet car.
Here is an eBay (not something I’m selling) listing of one similar.
It IS a vintage jib sheet car.
Successful_Cod_8904@reddit
You are a mongloid do didn't get the irony, fucktard
Firm_Objective_2661@reddit
We just let our bowman re-set the spin pole so the sheets run below it. Much more efficient at catching them that way.
slydude71@reddit
Didn't see the subreddit, thought it was a weird firearm sight.
JagPie@reddit
Reflex sight?
WestCartographer9478@reddit (OP)
Circa 1850 🤣
Resqusto@reddit
It's a Stargate with DHD
Compulawyer@reddit
I think you mean chappa’ai
Resqusto@reddit
you misspelled Astria Porter
AnarZak@reddit
it's for the spinnaker pole to connect to the track on the front of the mast
Beelzabub@reddit
Maybe a spinnaker fairlead car since OP said the jin rubbed a teak handrail?
AnarZak@reddit
it's not for running lines through, it's a spinnaker pole car.
if they're using it for something else that's fine, but it doesn't change what it is.
nicholhawking@reddit
If you're trying to lead your jib sheet this is too high friction and you should be using a block on a car...
WestCartographer9478@reddit (OP)
Its for my cutter, the sheets do run through a block on a car currently, just need that few inches of redirection to prevent my sweet sweet Cetol from keeping buffed off :)
nicholhawking@reddit
Hmmm I presume you have it forward of your block... why not just move your block forward??
WestCartographer9478@reddit (OP)
HOLY COW, thank you all so much! Now my sweet baby will get two new shiney ones and I’ll keep this as backup.
Significant_Tie_3994@reddit
Well, I'd call it a car padeye, but those are generally aligned to be along the track which is the way padeyes generally go, maybe a car fairlead?. I know the track pawl would be taking most of the strain on that, so definitely not ideal. Addendum, forespar just calls it a "mast car" https://www.forespar.com/products/sail-mast-car.shtml
Elder_sender@reddit
That is a spinnaker pole ring, meant to be mounted on a track on the front of your mast. Do you have jib cars.
BrokenSymmetries@reddit
A spinnaker pole ring slider or track car.
Bubbly_Ad_2795@reddit
Spinnaker T-Track Pole Slide
Ok_Echidna_99@reddit
That is a T track spinnaker pole slide. Generally it is used to set the height of a spinnaker pole on the mast.
2airishuman@reddit
Genoa car. Or Genoa track car. There are various styles and makers that sometimes sort of interchange.
