You don't need archinstall. It's consistently broken and limits how you can configure the system. It's good for quickly installing into VMs, but I wouldn't use it for anything else.

Sigh. Do we have to go through this every single time someone decides to use
archinstall
? It's part of the official ISO. It's totally fine to use. There's no need to be elitist about everything.
FactoryOfShit@reddit
It's not elitist to state the objective fact that it's consistently buggy and broken.
I'm not saying "if you use this tool then you're not a REAL power user", I'm saying "this tool IS BROKEN, thankfully it's not necessary".
FineWolf@reddit
People post issues with
archinstall
because they don't take the time to read and just select stuff without understanding the options.Using or not using
archinstall
is not going to fix the human behind the screen taking the decisions. Instead of just selecting options they don't understand, they'll follow some "install Arch from scratch" tutorial blindly without understanding and still have issues. You cannot blame the tool for human mistakes.
FactoryOfShit@reddit
This is absolutely true. I agree with everything you said!
Again, don't get me wrong, there's NOTHING wrong with using archinstall! But archinstall is extremely buggy to this day, as such I simply recommend people who have issues with archinstall to simply follow the guide manually instead of trying to understand why archinstall broke this time.

It seems to be working when I tried installing gnome only

In the Disk Selection section, you selected "Pre-mounted configuration" and specified mountpoints that you didn't mount manually previously. Therefore it failed due to your specified invalid config.
If you want to do a clean install on some pre-specified partitions, mount them manually first. If not, use the partitioning wizard.

I have installed arch before and then tried this. Also I did the manual thing
