This Is Spinal Tap in Theaters

This Is Spinal Tap is playing in select theaters today through Monday (July 5-7). How many of us are going? How many of us are taking their kids?
Are you indifferent about the release of This Is Spinal Tap II coming out in September?
Wife and I are going.

I had completely forgotten that Sir Dennis Eaton-Hogg left the record company and started the "Hoggswood" camp for pale young boys.

AMC is notorious for having 20-30min of trailers/ads for regular movies ... do they do that for this movie as well?
BogusBoyscout@reddit
Just got back. It was fun to see it in theaters with other people. I’ve only ever seen it on VHS/Laserdisc/DVD/streaming.

I am the lone ticket holder at my local theater on Monday night.

I'm 18, and I'm taking all of my friends. My parents introduced me to this movie when I was younger, and it's been my favorite ever since. Excited to introduce it to my friends tomorrow!

We saw it yesterday. There was a good crowd in the theatre and if anyone was speaking along they were too far away for us to hear. Our daughter at least has a varied enough musical taste to appreciate the music.
Skysis@reddit
For those who went, quick question. Did you catch the introduction by Rob Reiner prior to the movie starting? We walked in on time, but apparently this was some sort of a bonus for those who showed up really early.

Just went yesterday and it was great. It was the first time I got to see it in a theatre. It came out when I was 12 and I saw it for the first time on video when I was in high school a few years later. McKean/Guest/Shearer are such talented guys. My wife, who had never seen the movie, went with me and liked it. I have quoted parts of it to her over the years but this was the first time she watched it. She now understands why I would've loved it so much as a teenager.

The preview scene from The End Continues was as good as the original and convinced me that they are going to be able to pull this off again.
The downside was that the original (new original?) looks awful on the big screen despite it being a 4k restoration. But the music sounded great.

Would love to go, but the truth is I can no longer handle the audiences at these events, because invariably, there's always, ALWAYS, at least one schmuck who thinks that everyone is actually there to see them act like a fool and disrupt the entire thing.
coldchill13@reddit
But you didn't get to see it in 11K.
ragazza68@reddit
And remastered Dubly
DrDr1972@reddit
Yep. Fuck that noise.
ragazza68@reddit
Went yesterday, it’s still hilarious and brilliant
NewfieFan24@reddit
I’m going! So are the kids, albeit under some duress.
5am_dad@reddit (OP)
🤣 yep. We'd be taking our daughter with us if she was home this weekend... Making it a "Family Activity" so she couldn't back out
NewfieFan24@reddit
Jeez, that was fun. The preview scene from STII was pretty auspicious. Will definitely be there when it opens.

Sounds like the makings of a GenX brand of the Rocky Horror experience.
trelene@reddit
Wasn't Rocky Horror already a Gen X experience?
Flat_6_Theory@reddit
Maybe but it came out, along with the Rocky Horror cosplay, when I was so young that until the 90s I regarded as more something for my boomer brother and sister.
trelene@reddit
Definitely some overlap with the older Xers, I was attending the cosplay (lol, not a word I'd have recognized then) performances in HS, so mid 80s.

Going in about 50 minutes!!!

Thank you for the heads up. Taking my 16 yr old on Monday night.

Going Monday
jenorama_CA@reddit
Me and my BFF are seeing it this afternoon. Years ago my husband and I saw them on their “Unwigged and Unplugged” tour and I don’t know if you know this, but those guys are really good musicians.
Mammoth-Average5016@reddit
4 of us are going. Last I checked only 8 tickets sold for our showing. 💩🥪
Agreeable-Fault2273@reddit
Not a big college town?

We're going...to eleven! 🤘

I got tickets for Monday night!
Tanya7500@reddit
Where everything I see says Sept 25.
paephipps@reddit
I’m in NC. Someone else said something about September but I think that is the release date for the new one!
ToddBradley@reddit
I thought seriously about it, and then realized it's going to be a bunch of 55-year-olds talking along with the movie, quoting the now-famous one-liners. And I didn't feel like I need that today. I'd rather watch the Black Sabbath concert extravaganza.

DenverBowie@reddit
You could always just shout back at them with a lesser-used one-liner: "But hey.... Enough-a you yakkin'."
Tanya7500@reddit
Thinking I will do the same if I don't go fishing.
CommanderUgly@reddit
I'm checking it out on Sunday.
edasto42@reddit
My wife won’t watch that movie with me since I know the whole thing by heart and sometimes can’t control myself saying the dialogue with the actors. But she’s going out of town Sunday so I might try to get a showing in.
And as far as bringing kids-I think there’s a lot of context that would be needed for a kid to walk into this and find it entertaining. The music history jokes alone went over my head for years until I got educated and understood the context. Plus this really was a product of the era that I think is challenging to latch on to if you’ve not had exposure previously.
FrolickingGhosts@reddit
Going today!
Mfsmitty@reddit
I saw them in concert in 1992. One of the highlights of my teen years.
FatGuyOnAMoped@reddit
I saw that tour too! I was right out of college, playing in a band, no less. Great show!
shedwyn2019@reddit
Oh, gods. No one told me children would be attending. Teenagers, tho, right?
My bestie and I are going to see it today!
Goes2_Eleven@reddit
Thanks for the info! I wasn’t aware!
Background_Wrap_4739@reddit
I got tickets for 5pm on Sunday!
Miserable_Drop_5398@reddit
Going. Taking the kids. We are all fans! So excited for the next chapter. Tap forever🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Friendly_Ad_2256@reddit
I had no idea this was happening
coldchill13@reddit
We rarely go to the movies but the wife and I are going today and plan to be going again in September.
seesha@reddit
We are going today!
Mo_Steins_Ghost@reddit
Watched it at home last night. As someone who did music journalism in high school and college, and wanted to get into the music business, Tap is so much funnier because I can point to almost any scene and say "I've seen this exact conversation."

We are going today!
