The Chinese media / influencers have been blowing this issue up for at least half a year now, to cut the number of Japan tourists, to damage their economy.

Actually, there was a reasonably sized earthquake today, but earthquakes aren't unusual in Japan, and it didn't turn into a major disaster. Whether you think this cartoonist actually predicted it, or if the readers just filled in the blanks of a vague claim on their own, it's like a litmus test for intellectual standards in a way.

Yup. Every year, Japan has 1000s of earthquakes which someone can feel. There was 100 in 2025 that was level 4 (shindo 4), which locals would take seriously. Level 3 can be felt but isn't usually a problem, and for this I can't find data.
If a fucking manga artist says they predict an earthquake in July (they said it's not July 5 but the entire July), it's like a sham at that point.

What about 1000 earthquakes in less than two weeks?

Which is south of Japan. That's creepy.

Godzilla.

Did the manga author predict that? No.

Dunno, just looked into this more. Was curious to see what happened around July 5th. July 3rd, had high activity south of Japan. Reports of 1000 earth quakes in 2 weeks.

It sounds like "farmers almanac" predictions.
This summer the North Eastern United States is going to see higher than normal temperatures and heavier precipitation.
Very vague statements over vast areas

Then they release a revised one a few weeks later with the flipped prediction. They’re always right and always wrong.

Look, it sounds ridiculous, but I'm of the opinion that air travel is one of those matters where it's just better to be safe than sorry. Especially in a more superstitious society like Japan

That earthquake connection to the show is a part of a famous (in Japan at least) “Curse”

I always forget the numbers killed in natural disasters that befall Japan. It makes sense that an archipelago nation would get it the worst from tsunamis, but still. The absolute devastation they experience every ten years or so.
