It's getting so bad...

Is anyone else stunned by how rapidly this website has declined in 2025? The enshittification of Reddit isn't new but wow has it accelerated. The constant feed refreshing after being off the app for even a few seconds in particular drives me crazy, X does this as well. I'm 22 and have been internet addicted my entire life, shoutout to all these social media shooting themselves in the foot so bad I'm actually touching grass and finding new hobbies 🫩

Work ing on an alternative please exlain what you mean as good as you can
kochier@reddit
Used to be you click to read comments then go back to the feed to keep browsing, now when you hit back the feed seems re ordered every time.
DragonfruitOk2029@reddit
okey interesting, just a tips you can click the scrool wheel to open up new tab but still i get your point =)
kochier@reddit
Yes, what I usually do until I somehow end up with 40 open tabs, but sometimes I do open it in the same tab and had noticed the change. It used to be static every hour if I recall, they had changed how often your feed refreshes a few times.
AnonomousWolf@reddit
Swith to PieFedÂ
poofypie384@reddit
seems highly partisan from a quick look
PuddingFeeling907@reddit
I'm very partisan to open-standards.
AnonomousWolf@reddit
So like reddit?
BlazeAlt@reddit
Do we have a one-liner to introduce people to Piefed, with links to an instance an app?
CausalSin@reddit
Voyager has Piefed access via beta, but no sign ups via app right now.
PuddingFeeling907@reddit
It works for me on stable.
YukarinVal@reddit
There are several apps that are testing piefed currently, but still not as many as its L sibling that rhymes with Cemmy.
LateToLaunch_@reddit
This is the answer to all my problems
VintageOG@reddit
The decline of reddit and the internet in general started after the 2016 election. I'd give anything to have the old internet back
Howrus@reddit
Nope. First of all - that's USDefaultism, to tie everything to US elections.
Second - elections are not root cause but a symptoms of different, deeper things. Like - TicTok was released in 2016 and it had much higher impact on the modern Internet than your elections.
In general this change happening because people become less focused because of huge amount of media fighting for people attention.
eepy_boi@reddit
Foreigners are more obsessed with U.S. politics than your average American is lmfao
VintageOG@reddit
Nope. We literally watched this happen. And tiktok was not very relevant at the time, but think what you want
poofypie384@reddit
both have valid points to be fair
VintageOG@reddit
Lol, okay buddy. It's not like a lot of us didn't watched it happen in real time. And yes, the 2016 election was a major factor in the decline of reddit and the old internet.
prankster999@reddit
I think it was a combination of factors... The smartphone becoming much more popular... As well as the US election, which really split the internet... It didn't also help that Reddit was free, attracted low value people and trolls, and basically became the long-form equivalent of Twitter... And then there was Covid and all the resultant lockdowns, together with people working from home becoming the default modus operandi for a number of people.
Electronic-Phone1732@reddit
While I recommend you don't spend a lot of time online, the fediverse is pretty good right now.
Check piefed.social and lemmy.cafe .
hydroflame7@reddit
What do you find different about Reddit? It feels off for me too but I can't quite pinpoint it.
marioncrepes@reddit (OP)
There seems to be more algorithmic shifts in content/the way it's presented to me, the app refreshing for new content repeatedly is also new. Also there's been those weird subreddits being pushed and censorship at new levels
Howrus@reddit
I'm using old.reddit with RES - nothing changed in last ~5 years.
And for mobile there's other clients like Hydra.
cornfeedhobo@reddit
Does that magically fix a platform with the shitties moderation around?
Scroll r/all. It's an endless echo chamber.
Howrus@reddit
Excuse me, but why do you read /all ???
By definition it's a trash dump that have 99% of shit and 1% of diamonds.
Here, how ti "fix" your Reddit experience in one week:
1) Install RES
2) Open /all, read posts and if you see one that you like - subscribe to this subreddit
3) If you see post that disgust you, ignore it using RES
4) Repeat it every day for a week
5) Never open /all and only read your /home
6) ...
7) PROFIT!
cornfeedhobo@reddit
Excuse me, but why would you down vote me and then expect me to answer your condescending questions?
I_Love_Tatties@reddit
its reddit XD thats usually how "conversations" go in here...take my +1
Pamasich@reddit
They did announce they're abolishing private messages this year, though we're already past the announced timeline and they're still here. So not sure what's up with that.
But if they actually do it:
Howrus@reddit
Over my ~10 years of using Reddit, I received like ... five private messages. And wrote zero. Out of this five - only 2 contained useful information, but it could be written as normal comment.
So I would be honest with you - I was happy when I read that private chats would be removed.
Pamasich@reddit
I have certainly used them more, but I think the bigger issue is that the private message feature was used for notifications too.
RedditIsExpendable@reddit
Just a matter of time until they remove old.reddit.com when they see more and more people using it.
Howrus@reddit
And then I'll stop using Reddit. It's that simple :] Perplexity already allow me to get information from Reddit without opening site itself.
Mykomancer@reddit
I’ve been planning to leave. Not looking for any alternatives just to drop social media of any form entirely. Reddit is the last one to go. I’m going through all my saved posts I meant to read and then I’ll be deleting the account by tomorrow night. Hopefully this time I won’t come back after a few months.
DeaconOrlov@reddit
Be strong, I'm sure you'll be happier
Delicious_Ease2595@reddit
Censorship is at an all time high
poofypie384@reddit
welcome to the age of internet Monopolies my friend. years ago i tried to tell people to diversify and not support shitty platforms.. yet here we are. and before you say i'm a hypocrit. 1. ive joined this sub lol and 2. i wasnt on here for years and only came back for basic info and questions relating to diet, my health conditions and on occasion the odd shitpost or browse of some titty posts. but yeah hopefully an alternative will surface
Stoic-Chimp@reddit
I feel ya. join us over at https://agorasocial.io/ - transparent moderation and 0 ads :)
LogJumpy94@reddit
What kind of infrastructure does it have for up and coming bands? I would love to see a social that was as good if not better than MySpace for allowing underground bands to find a platform
sailnlax04@reddit
I have one, it's kind of small (growing) but it's made for independent artists. You can have your own band forum and a free Linktree alternative
Community.extrachill.com
LogJumpy94@reddit
Omg. I'm so excited to check it out!
sailnlax04@reddit
Cheers! Would love to hear what you think
LogJumpy94@reddit
So far it looks super interesting. I won't have time to fully poke around till later tho
LogJumpy94@reddit
Anyone here from the Pacific northwest and love punk? Boy have I got a place for you

Checking this place out, peaks my interest

Im just tired of how insanely left every reddit is. Its like it’s a rule to have a one aided mind on here and thinking objectively is a bannable offense.
prankster999@reddit
Getting people to pay for stuff will make Reddit a lot less left leaning...
It's why BlueSky has such an awful reputation at the moment...
prankster999@reddit
OP... I asked ChatGPT about the idea of a website having a subscription service, and I got the following response:

I’m in the Digg alpha and really enjoying it so far. Reminds me a lot of old Reddit and I am bullish on it as a replacement
ravenfreak@reddit
Forums exist and they're better than any social media platform.
azriel777@reddit
Got any recommendations?
ravenfreak@reddit
Forumpromotion.net, Administrata, ResetEra, Admin-Junkies just to name a few. Forum Promotion, AJ, and Administrata can help you find a huge number of forums. ResetEra is good if you're a gamer but you need a professional email to join. Gaming-Latest is another gaming forum and you don't need a professional email to join that one.
MandrakeLicker@reddit
What is a professional email?
ravenfreak@reddit
A non Gmail, AOL, Hotmail, outlook, or Yahoo email. If you had your own domain name with your username, you could set up a professional email. I believe you can get one setup via your Internet service provider too but I'm not familiar with that since I own a few domains and have a few email addresses set up with them.
Beneficial_Exam_1634@reddit
Honestly, Titsintops, SurvivalistBoards, AtheistForums, ar15.com, and hipforums, those are just the ones off the top of my head

Alpha Digg is pretty rad. Not enough people on there. But what it is at the moment is leaps and bounds better than Reddit.

I know I'm not the expert and don't understand why algorithms are structured the way they are, but the fact that every site now has decided to make it so gottdamm difficult to find things you previously saw and might want to share. It's like Amazon sending me ads for socks when I just bought socks. Wouldn't trying to sell me shoes to go with said socks be a better marketing effort?
virtueavatar@reddit
Maybe you only bought socks because you're an avid sock collector
dragon-mom@reddit
Haven't noticed anything
HelpMeOverHere@reddit
Also their video player been fucking shithouse for almost a week now?
At least half the videos on my feeds don’t play. YouTube are fine, it’s Reddit’s own shitty hosted videos.
Wish they’d fucking stop breaking shit.
greybyte@reddit
You're not using it "right". I browse old reddit and use redreader if I'm on my phone. I wouldn't say anything substantial has changed lately.
