How do you make your jeans stiffer?

I know about starch but does it stay there? Basically bought a pair for £40 (they're worn now) and the denims crap, like a dishcloth. Any ideas?

Did you have any luck? I just bought a pair that were a size too small in the store, but, after washing, are now too big.

£40 for jeans is pretty cheap, it won't be stiff, hard-wearing denim.

Correct. But I do have a £15 pair that's twice as good.

I think this is more about the quality of the fabric… is it ‘proper denim’ or does it have any ‘stretch’ or man made fibres too?

Making them stiffer won’t help there. If you think the denim is thin and likely to break that’s just how the fabric is. You could get some binding and line them so they’re a double thickness? Like why didn’t you try them on before removing the labels so you could return if need be? I mean come on.

I'd give starch a try as it definitely will stiffen jeans - even if it doesn't stay forever, it's cheap/straightforward enough to reapply or top up with spray starch. That said, if you do try it and it's underwhelming, if you can afford it you might be better off cutting your losses and buying a pair of jeans which is better to start with. I only buy jeans these days after looking at reviews as lots are not very good.
