I’ve always thought the idea of this was disgusting, but my mom used to always say:
“an apple pie without the cheese
is like a hug without the squeeze”
guff1988@reddit (OP)
I think you should try it. If it's disgusting spit it out no loss right. But if it's delicious, you have a new thing you can enjoy from time to time.
icespiceonice@reddit
maybe you should’ve left the cheese unmelted this time around
guff1988@reddit (OP)
The meltiness is kind of the entire point of American, right?
icespiceonice@reddit
cheese don’t go on pie you gooner
guff1988@reddit (OP)
I have yet to find a single thing I can't put cheese on. I graded Parmesan on some vanilla ice cream once and it was delicious.
Maybe you should open your mind?
icespiceonice@reddit
i will not give into the cheese 😡 (i’m lactose intolerant)
guff1988@reddit (OP)
This makes me sad. I'm so sorry for your loss.
welding_guy_from_LI@reddit
This would be a crime in Vermont.. they have a law that it has to be cheddar with apple pie
Stickz99@reddit
I’m not gonna lie, the idea of cheese on apple pie at all has always baffled me.
Just like… why? At what point did someone say “hmm, you know what flavor really works well with apple and cinnamon? CHEESE.”
And yall just… went along with it without questioning it. Seriously, wtf?
Murky_Tennis954@reddit
Reminds me of an episode from that old show "Lil Romeo" with Master P. The mom in the show dipped Oreos in mayonnaise. Idk if that's a thing, but it is something I'll never want to try.
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Holy shit... I think I want to try that now
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Stickz99@reddit
No. There are some things I simply have no desire to try. I don’t need to put cheese on a caramel apple to know it won’t be good, and I’ll ruin a perfectly good caramel apple.
Same thing applies to apple pie
echoes315@reddit
If you never try, how would you know you don't like it? It's the combo of sweet/tart from the pie and the slight tang/cream from a sharp cheddar that comes together almost like an umami flavor.
Cholinergia@reddit
Same.
Honestly, any combination of sweet and salty is instant vom.
Stickz99@reddit
I don’t mind some combinations of sweet and salty to be fair. But this one has always made 0 sense to me. It just seems so random and weird
guff1988@reddit (OP)
More for me then, thanks for your sacrifice.
Open_Youth7092@reddit
American cheese is just cheddar with additives that keep it from splitting when melted…
NhylX@reddit
American cheese is Kraft Singles and there's a hell of a lot more differences with cheddar than additives....
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Lol, I assure you this is not kraft singles. I wouldn't be cut dead buying that trash.
Krimreaper1@reddit
There’s lactose in American cheese and usually isn’t in Chaddar that makes a big difference for Lactose intolerant peoples
rowrowfightthepandas@reddit
Confidently wrong. Kraft Singles don't even meet the FDA definition for American cheese. Nowhere on the packaging do they call it American cheese.
Actual American cheese is typically just solid cheese (typically cheddar) emulsified with water and/or cream.
YourLonelyStoner@reddit
There's also a big difference between deli sliced American cheese and kraft singles.
Murky_Tennis954@reddit
logikal-1@reddit
This brought me back!
echoes315@reddit
That's literally just an old American tradition in general and I agree. Sharp cheddar too.
rklab@reddit
American cheese is essentially just cheddar cheese emulsified with water
guff1988@reddit (OP)
The first listed ingredient of this cheese was cheddar so I'm going to call it good. 👍
welding_guy_from_LI@reddit
lol you found a loophole
TarHeelVicky@reddit
I respect the confidence it took to not only make this but serve it proudly.
guff1988@reddit (OP)
I stand proud, unwavered.
Key-Satisfaction4967@reddit
Absolutely tasty and delicious.

Apple pie with cheese on it.....
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Sea-Independent-726@reddit
I'll pass but did you like it?
guff1988@reddit (OP)
It tasted like apple pie but it was creamier and saltier. The cheese actually added no flavor but the texture and experience it added were top notch.
meoweffects@reddit
I thought that was a piece of chicken with cheese on it at first
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Also not a bad idea, I'm down for that one too.
Breaking-Who@reddit
Makes more sense than fucking Apple pie
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Try it, you coward

Automatic_Humor_8167@reddit
i love pie and i love cheese but anytime i see this i want to vomit on it so nobody can eat it
calvinfoss@reddit
Anytime you see this? You’ve seen this more than once?? Is this an American tradition I don’t know about???
DEFCLAM-1@reddit
It’s a New England thing. Usually the cheese is just cheddar though
LCBloodraven@reddit
Its a thing in western NY. You are supposed to have a nice hunk of sharp cheddar, on the side.

LOTRfreak101@reddit
American cheese barely qualifies as cheese
guff1988@reddit (OP)
This is a high quality American cheese that is mostly cheddar and then it's got some milk and emulsifying salts. It's really not as disgusting as you've been led to believe. And don't confuse it with kraft singles, it's nothing like that trash.
LOTRfreak101@reddit
Well, this does certainly make me feel better. I thought I hated cheeseburgers for years, but it turns out the american cheese on them was just what I hated.
Stickz99@reddit
Actually, it’s not as fake as you think. It’s just melted down cheddar and/or Colby with a little bit of additive that keeps it smooth and creamy even after it solidifies.
NileRed (chemist on YouTube) made a video on this. You’ll probably be much less disgusted by American cheese if you watch it.
Open_Youth7092@reddit
It’s cheddar cheese with additives to stop it from splitting. Hence “Processed cheese”
Automatic_Humor_8167@reddit
american cheese isnt really a "kind" of cheese its a way to process cheese

I’ve never heard of cheese on apple pie until now, what’s the proper way to do it? It sounds repulsive at first but I eat pie wirh ice cream, whipped cream, cream cheese etc so I see the vision
guff1988@reddit (OP)
I get a slice of pie hot out of the oven slap a piece of cheese on it cover it with a little bit of foil or something to trap in the heat and let it melt the cheese. In this case the pie was already cold so I microwaved it, because American cheese needs to be served melty.
Vexillologia@reddit
I’ve heard of cheddar and apple before. There has to be a better way of combining those foods than this.
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Dangerous-Courage412@reddit
this feels very american and appropriate for the 4th of july
guff1988@reddit (OP)
violet_ablueberry@reddit
for some reason this doesn't look bad to me I kind of want to try it
guff1988@reddit (OP)
It's so good, like I was turned off at the concept before I tried it but then I took a bite and I was like oh my God that's apple pie but saltier and creamier. It's really really good.
EffectiveHead6961@reddit
so what was the thought process here 🥰
guff1988@reddit (OP)
Creamy salty sweet buttery flaky.
EffectiveHead6961@reddit
honestly i won’t knock it till i try it
