I thought Texas was supposed to have crazy summer heat

It's July and it's cloudy in the low 80s.
People always complain and say they'd never be in Texas because of crazy heat.
Where is this crazy heat wave?
Maybe it's worse in Austin, or Houston?
Those places are so foreign from North Texas, especially Houston.

It’s October and at 10AM I took the dog for a walk and felt like my skin was about to burn off. Lived here all my life. Getting tired of the heat
chiefsfan26@reddit
I know, summer lasts in Texas all the way through winter.
Jalapenis_poppers_@reddit
Bud come down to the gulf coast and get back to me.
Deep-Royal1390@reddit
While this summer has been on the "cooler" side, Texas has faced some the worst humidity its had in years. 95F days feel like 110F. There has been record setting temps, but the humidity is the real villain of 2025.
That being said, be careful what you ask for. Also, if you are sitting on your ass in the A/C and complaining about the heat...you need to shut the fk up.
Sudden-Enthusiasm551@reddit
Now into September. 2025 has been a very cool and wet weather for a Dallas summer. More rainy days the last two months than the entire calendar year of 2024. In 2023 and 2024 almost every day between June 1st and Oct 1st was 100 degrees or more. This summer there's been maybe one.
imjustchasingclouds@reddit
This didn’t age well 😂😭 I don’t know where you’re at but it’s been in the high 90’s where I am for like a damn month now
PossibilitySub398@reddit
High 90s IS unusually cool for summer. This is the 2nd year in a row with oddly mild summers
imjustchasingclouds@reddit
Oof I guess you’re right yeah. I’m from New England so I’m not 100% used to these summers lol
barefootedbookworm@reddit
Echoing everyone else, this has been a VERY cool summer. A lot of years have been triple digits in a row for weeks on end with the occasional 90-something day here or there. But there's the odd cooler summer sometimes. I can't recall the last time I saw a day in the 80s in the summer and certainly not so much rain. It's been a fantastic summer.
DXDoug@reddit
Now its showing the high gonna be 88 august 22-24th. I think we have had one 100 degree day here in hillsboro... And yeah august still hasnt had any 100 degree days i dont think. This is a extremely cool august. And if 88 gonna be the high in a week and 2 days. And ya temp high going from 96 to 95 then 93-92-91-90--88.... Each day is starting to get a degree cooler and august isnt even over ... Whats going on with the weather ....
Sharp_Government7622@reddit
This is the second year in a row that summer has been mild. I'm used to 110 degree weather by late June, July and some of August. Hasn't been that way since 22/23
Delicious_Hand527@reddit
August is the worst month in Texas, and September because you think it's over but it keeps coming. July is pretty variable and when it rains a bit during the day it's fine. But so far this year, it hasn't been excessively humid or excessively hot. This is average.
Sharp_Government7622@reddit
We're in August now, 17th to be exact and only 3 days at 100 degrees 😮💨 bad for my job. No A/Cs are breaking down
Zeraw420@reddit
Lmao just wait. August is going to be brutal
Rollastoney_@reddit
Well August is here and tf is going on!? The weather seems to be holding steady. I’m not complaining though. Ready for summer to be over
adonisblack1@reddit
Its been unusually cool this summer! Usually as soon as june comes around the temp stays in the 100s or high 90s. Must be all the rain/storms we’ve been getting
MechaPhantom302@reddit
Wait til August.
Tbf this is the mildest summer I've experienced in years. It's rare we've been getting so much rain lately, but I'm not complaining.
The years with months-long droughts with consecutive 100+ days are the ones you're thinking about.
Sideview_play@reddit
Yeah we've had July's that have hit 100+ on most days. This is an usual July. Especially with how many random little showers and thunder there has been.
kuronekotango@reddit
I lived in a town where it only exceeded 80F seven times in the last 30 years. Even this is killing me.
thephotoman@reddit
August is the worst.
But we have had a cool and wet spring/summer so far. And Houston is not as hot in terms of temperature. It's that at 95°F and 95% humidity, which means that your sweat doesn't evaporate properly, making things far more dangerous than mere heat alone.
matteo81@reddit
Dude, don’t jinx it. We’ve seen 99 degrees on Halloween before.
aek82@reddit
Wait a few days. 100+ degree afternoons will be here soon enough.
hibzib357@reddit
DFW summers are tolerable IMO. I thought Phoenix was much more unbearable. Sure it's a dry heat, but it feels hotter in Phoenix. I've never been sunburned in Dallas, but have been in Phoenix. Houston has worse heat and humidity. What I hear about Houston is it feels like Phoenix but with humidity added. Austin also feels more unbearable too but not as bad as in Houston. And in Houston, your windows fog up when you turn your car off. Never has that happened in Dallas.
Delicious_Hand527@reddit
Phoenix is way hotter than Dallas, in terms of highs and overnight lows - already well over 100F, and also over Dallas' high heat index temperatures (so far).
The lack of humidity helps in the late evenings when wind blows - and summer is Phoenix's rainiest time (not saying much) which helps break up the monotony vs Dallas.
Houston has slightly lower high temps than Dallas, but generally higher humdity. And in Dallas, when it cools in October, the humidity disappears, whereas it sticks around in Houston the full year.
hibzib357@reddit
The humidity in Houston is so miserable. It makes summers so unbearable. And yes, you are right, Dallas becomes drier in the Fall. In Houston, its humid all year long. Dallas definitely has much better weather and climate than Houston, but i like all 4 seasons. Houston is summer almost all year long.
femslashy@reddit
Are you trolling?
Entire-Ad-1220@reddit
wait until school starts in august so they can crank the weather machine up
mrzman_bigz17@reddit
You'll be crying soon. We're in a lucky streak. Did you just move here in January?
thehakujin82@reddit
Dude said in another comment he grew up here (Plano ISD), yet writes a post acting like he’s been misled about the heat here.
NGL, Confused by his tactics.
_A_Separate_Peace_@reddit
please do not jinx it… 🤣
kevin_r13@reddit
Temps are cooler right now but still feels hot. Last few summers we got to 115+ , even near 120 I think.
AssignmentSecret@reddit
Wait till August and say the same lol
yourmom11112222@reddit
Why would you complain about low 80’s lol? Be thankful for the rain.
And Houston is a literal hellhole. The humidity makes the air thick. It’s disgusting.
Paulsur@reddit
You just jinxed it, now beginning in the 2nd 1/2 of July we will be in for it. Thanks.
Select-Sale2279@reddit
You ain't from around here, are you?
hertabuzz@reddit (OP)
I literally went through Plano ISD but okay.
llamalovedee123@reddit
Chill
hertabuzz@reddit (OP)
You chill. And tell the guy who doesn't think I'm from here to chill, if anything.
tj2286@reddit
You can see the differences in the way Texas looks between now and the last few Summers from space. Usually, by now, everything is browning from the heat. Instead, the whole state is significantly greener. This is to say that this summer is significantly cooler and wetter than normal, for now. Enjoy it while you can.
Breakneck1701@reddit
we've had an unusually cool spring and summer thus far. enjoy it while it lasts, we're only 3 days into july. August is usually our hottest month.
TeamCostner@reddit
I know it has been cool. We usually start heating up end of May and June.
TeamCostner@reddit
Just wait a minute! July August and part of September you can fry an egg on pavement
wbd3434@reddit
Not uncommon to have a June/July with mid-80s.
Also not uncommon to have Christmas in the mid-80s.
Summer here is hell, reliably, and it will last for several more months to come. We don't have heat-waves, we have one 4-5mo heat tsunami, and it is coming.
And no, Dallas has the worst summers of all of the cities you listed. Houston has some slight cooling form the Gulf of America - not cool, but not nearly as hot, albeit very humid. Austin is pretty rough, too, but it is more scenic than it is here. Their lakes and rivers are prettier.
I bet we hit 100 by next week. Within a week or two from then, the nighttime lows will be in the lower-80s.
CoolDude1980@reddit
Set a reminder for 8 weeks and revisit this comment.
No-Celebration3097@reddit
I think we won’t escape the intense heat, still have at least two and half months to go before it even starts cooling off. I’m thankful right now.
spookaddress@reddit
Great! Now you have awakened the god of summer and their vengeance will be upon us now. It's all your fault for the rest of the season.
TheDutchTexan@reddit
Thanks for jinxing us…
Onuus@reddit
lol just wait buddy. Enjoy it while you can, and don’t complain
D_G_C_22@reddit
Hahaha enjoy it while it’s here! I also don’t remember it raining so much far into June … but yes… weather will soon take a turn. Have a safe 4th everyone!
Temporary_Ability684@reddit
Just wait long enough and it will come
GertBertisreal@reddit
Well, you just ruined it for everyone now. It's not gonna be cool again til December 😂
SouthEndXGF@reddit
The weather was very similar to this at this time last year too. It’s not rare for it to not get real hot until mid july. August will be hot.
itchysweatersdaw@reddit
It's been a crazy weird year when it comes to weather but I think we are just pre-heating. 😅 I hope im wrong though.
