Old People at the movies

Hey! Saying this as a fellow GenXer ... What is wrong with you? Went to a movie last night. First, you were sitting in our seats. Maybe just a simple misunderstanding. Whatever. THEN you throw all your stuff in the seat next to me out of annoyance. THEN ... you talked and guffawed through the whole. friggin. movie. Loud movie, btw: F1. Not only talking, but also crinkling the loud candy wrappers. THEN ... you left all your trash behind, like a couple of assholes. Every time there's a problem person at a movie I go to, it's GenX and older. I've had to tell people to put their phone away, stop rifling through their purse and if you put your foot on my head ONE MORE GODDAMN TIME ..... What are you ... five?? Just stay TF home FFS.

I haven't been to the theater since the third LOTR movie, I just can't bother with the price and the people. At home I can blaze up, eat whatever I want, and pause as needed.

It’s been younger people for me, but regardless of generation get your fucking shit together when you’re in a shared space. Also, BASIC HYGIENE IS YOUR FRIEND. I sat through 28 Years Later with some dbag behind me that smelled like he dipped his shoes in dick cheese and shit.

lol- what can I say about my generation X - it's like we're cynical, we grew up where everybody was hitting everybody "correcting them" - we can't stand to be told what to do it's like we never got out of our teenager years - that's the bad side of us - if you'd like I can also share with you the awesomeness we brought into the world - if it helps any I'm considered a "xenial" I don't know how to spell it- in a nutshell I don't feel I relate to gen X because I was born in the last year of it and I don't fully relate to millenials because I was 1x year off from being one

I don't go to see movies anymore. My last experiences were all similar. Smelly snacks, phones ringing and people talking all the time and quite loud by the way. I am done!

I get the anger. But I also think this has something to do with the theater and location of the theater. I know which ones in my city don't put up with these shenanigans, and I only go to those. Are there no good theaters where you live?

Those are just assholes. Every generation has them. Also the reason why I haven't gone to a movie theater in almost 10 years. With tv screens getting bigger and bigger and sound bars and virtually every movie available on demand, it ain't worth it. I can also pop my own popcorn for pennies, pause the movie to go pee, and fall asleep on the couch half way through the movie. WIN

I'm lucky that I have a movie teather at walking distance that has art films on programmation, sometimes has films not dubbed but with subtitiles. If you are going to watch for example The boy and the Heron in Japanese, you get rid of kids and noisy people for some reason; you get otaku but they at least are interested to watch the movie.

I have had a similar issue for years… if I am tired AT ALL going into a movie, lots of stuff moving around rapidly on the screen with loud noises frigging puts me to sleep like a lullaby.

For the cost of a small popcorn and a child’s coke at the theater, you can have a soundbar, 85” TV and all the streaming channels you could want. And you can pause when you inevitably have to pee six times during a long film. Justsayinzall…

I've had several older couples ruin movies by translating for their companion, loudly and in real time or them yell "WHAT?????" at the screen every time someone talks. It's been years since I went to a movie that didn't have at least 3 or 4 disruptive people in the audience. I skip the theater 90% of the time now.

It's not just movies; it happens at Broadway shows too, and those seats can be hundreds of dollars apiece. It's not age-related, its simply complete ahole entitlement. It's always been a problem, but it does seem to be more and more prevalent now. I am with you when it comes to movies. Why should I pay over $50 for two of us to be annoyed or have a horrible experience. Years ago you had little choice, because that movie wouldn't be available at home for months. Now, it can be just a couple of weeks, so I am good with waiting.

Yeaaaa I noticed it all the way around, more or less with the younger crowd can't keep their hands off their phone during the movie, need to laugh and giggle and cutup the entire time. Pretty much main reason I just dont go to movies anymore. Its just easier to watch at home.

I hate to tell you, but I go with my older friend to the Senior Discount movie day and None of that happens. I’m the youngest one there and they get mad if you talk during commercials. And I don’t go to regular movies anymore because the Young people have their feet everywhere and kick your seat and have their screens on brightly.

I’m in the minority, but I have always HATED going to the movie theater. Everyone is stupid and rude and loud. I was thrilled when streaming movies became a thing. Fuck theaters and the rude ass idiots who go there. Never again.

This is one of the main reasons I rarely go to the movies. Even with the abundant space and reserved seating, the people can still ruin the experience. We are going to see F1 tonight ourselves. Spent extra and driving another 20 minutes for IMAX, which I haven't done since the Batman movie with the Heath Ledger joker (Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson did it better). Judging by presales for our showing it should be a light crowd, hopefully they are well behaved.
