When is it time to give up on a project? (Spending way too much money)

About 3 months ago I finally decided I wanna build my car out, was ready to sell it but always wanted to build it into a street/drag car. Since it being a Honda civic I wanted to k swap it and looking at prices etc I convinced myself it could work out. My first mistake was buying a blown up motor which I kinda regret but planned to build it anyway in the future. I’ve pretty much got everything like piston’s,rods, cams, bearings, bolts, turbo manifold, turbo and a few other big parts but I’m finding myself working pay check to pay check just buying parts. All it feels like I’m working all week for nothing if that makes sense, I’ve lost motivation for the car and do t really wanna spend the next 6 months working pay check to pay check just to finish the build since I basically need everything still outside of the engine. Will it make me happy once it’s done yes it will but just dumping money into it doesn’t seem like the right thing to do when I know I could spend it on things that will give me the same happiness. Not to mention it would probably take me a while to sell all the parts I purchased. What would you guys do in my situation

Yeah... that's pretty much how it goes.
Take a break. Get back to it when you feel like it. If it isn't bringing you happiness, cut bait with it. I've sold and taken a bath on a couple cars now. Some hurt more than others, but when I could stand back and objectively realize they're money pits, see them for what they really are (borderline junk), it was easier

If you sell it you are for sure just throwing thousands of dollars and every second of time you spent on that car down the drain.
Why can't you just take a break?

A lot of parts I purchased used so I’d be able to sell them for around what I paid for but I could make a profit on the car itself just maybe not on the parts I did purchase

Sounds like you are rushing it. You don’t have to do it all in one year. Save up buy a part. Wait save up repeat. Don’t rush it and burn your wallet and your mental.
