When you think of a cool techno song from the early 2000s and you have no way of finding it online because you can’t remember the name and you’re pretty sure the four lyrics you remember are wrong.

Darude, Sandstorm.

Orbital - Halcyon + On + On

That was on the Mortal Kombat soundtrack and the whole thing was so good.
faderjockey@reddit
That was also one of the songs on the Hacker's soundtrack - which is absolutely chock-full of bangers

This is regularly used at sporting events now (e.g., NFL games) and it is SO disorienting for me. I’m immediately taken back to a club in Sydney in 2000 as I’m watching football. Weird.

A friend in high school made me a mixtape and there was an incredible song on it. He didn’t give me a track listing and the song had no words. I’ve never been able to find it again.
Snowqueenhibiscus@reddit
My college boyfriend burned me an amazing techno CD and I had to wait until Shazaam was invented to find out which songs were on it.
draculawater@reddit
I wish I’d held onto the cassette so I could do the same.

Man, I taped a Dave Clarke DJ set off the radio in about 1997 & listened to it constantly on the bus to school etc in my cheapo brand Walkman & I've never been able to find that exact set in modern times, gutted
xXWestinghouseXx@reddit
Luckily, the OG Mortal Kombat album had a lot of great techno songs.
I have a Daft Punk station on Pandora for more.

The only two Underworld songs I've ever heard are Born Slippy and Cowgirl.
Because Trainspotting and Hackers. 😂

You should know Dark and Long too then. From the withdrawal scene.

This happened to me a month or two ago. I had something stuck in my head for weeks. Turned out to be Lo Fidelity Allstars - Battleflag. Came on Lithium radio and i was able to google the lyrics. What a relief.

Still love that song
Completely different, but Leave You Far Behind by Lunatic Calm is the one that haunts me. Was one of my original twenty or so mp3s from like 1997.

I heard that first on some XM station like Special X years ago, and then downloaded it. That bassline was in my head and it took like a month to remember what the name was to find it for me as well!
Glum_Yesterday5697@reddit
Haha this is immediately the song I assumed OP was talking about.

That song popped up in the Netflix series Black Bird and I was like "hey I remember that song" So I went on a search. Luckily easy to find when used in a series. :)

Not techno, but I've been having that issue with a song that I'm pretty sure was a theme song to a show. I can only remember a snippet & I'm not sure how much of it is right or wrong. I've tried multiple variations searching Google with no luck.
rinky79@reddit
I thought all cool techno songs from the early 2000s were Sandstorm by Darude.
I remember sitting in my dorm room for WEEKS, diligently searching what passed for the internet in 1998 for the two songs in the Ever After trailerEver After trailer . I have no idea how I actually found them.
Every time I soundhound something or Google lyrics to figure out what a song is, I think of those two songs. (Mummer's Dance by Lorena McKennit and Fable (Message version) by Robert Miles.)
OP, can you think of any TV or movie scene that the song was used in?
graveybrains@reddit
My comment was going to be "I will not stand for this Robert Miles erasure!" until I watched that trailer. I don't know what that second song is, but it's for dammed sure Robert Miles. 😂
Also, I'm impressed that you managed to avoid getting the mummers' dance drilled into your skull. After that movie came out that song was inescapable for me for a good two years.
sirskwatch@reddit
Play an adjacent song on Spotify and created a radio from it, there’s a decent chance that song’ll popup. Good luck!

If you know a similar song, Spotify can generate a radio station with similar sounding music, from the same time period.
I've re-discovered a lot of old music with this option.
One of my boys started signing "We will rock you", and I had Spotify generate a radio station from it. Brought back a ton of old memories.
stockvillain@reddit
Many moons ago, some friends and I were having fun playing one of the early Tony Hawk games and getting a kick out of the tunes. There was one that got stuck in our heads for ages, and we'd sing the one line that we all thought we knew, just for shits and giggles.
One day, I sat down with Spotify and went through every Tony Hawk Pro Skater soundtrack I could find to figure out what song went "Tony Haaaaaawk, Tony Haaaaawk Tony Haaaawk."
The song is "Amoeba," by the Adolescents, the game was Tony Hawk 3.
Mystery solved!
Not_always_popular@reddit
That’s funny, Hawk had the best tracks! We just saw adolescents play, they are still touring and sounds badass, if you get a chance they’re worth the ticket in my opinion.
stockvillain@reddit
Dude! I shall let the crew know and see if there are any shows near enough to hit!
halibutface@reddit
Superman by Goldfinger will pop into my head and just stay there for the day. Im a 42yo man managing a decently successful company, and I have the Tony hawk soundtrack just chillin' in the back of my mind most days
Not_always_popular@reddit
That’s epic haha. I run large construction projects (superintendent) so people come in the trailer and I’ll have all those songs in the mix playing. My PM once was like, “what’s this shit” …. Damn kids lol

Technically they are French house music, or dance/disco, but i don't think they would take offense to being called techno
NSA_Chatbot@reddit
They're some kind of daft punk music.

Perhaps, but BPM and structures are totally different. Pretty sure Richie Hawten and Green Velvet and Niegel Richard’s would say otherwise. What would I know though.

"You see Mr. Bond..."
That's all I remember. Fucking haunted by it.
Uhh_JustADude@reddit
Not sure about that, but Moby did a James Bond theme.
BrucetheFerrisWheel@reddit
Google says:
The techno song that starts with a James Bond movie sound clip is a remix of the song "The World Is Not Enough" by Garbage. Specifically, it's a melodic techno remix that uses the iconic James Bond theme intro sound. The song's original version was the theme for the 1999 James Bond film of the same name
Is it that?

Providing more context or responding to some of these comments could help you to figure it out. There are also subs dedicated to music identification, like:
r/findthatsong
r/namethatsong
These subs in particular allow you to post even a vague description of the song or record a Vocaroo of the parts you remember.
Two more that could help:
r/MusicMatch or
r/lost wave
Hope you find your song!

At least if you have the track you can run it thru things like Shazam.
I dumped a few thousands 'track 1 - unknown artists' thru Picard a few years ago and it honestly was impressive how many it filled in right, for some reason it gave everything Wumpscut artwork... but i could live with that lol
