Hey shut up and let Elon throw money at Thomas Massie.

I know Elon can be shitty my dudes but I trust Massie to not compromise his principals. This could be a Ron Paul run.
Massie has made his stance clear. Elon got Trump elected. Trump has failed to deliver on responsible spending which he ran on.
Elon has not been above trying to get his chunk of government spending. But he has gotten behind a correct point that government is wasteful. And he’s getting behind the guy who’s a federal budget hardliner.
Let Massie Cook.
RealNinjafoxtrot@reddit
Ok, genuine question. What exactly is the problem with Musk? All I've heard is Musk Rich therefore Musk bad. Elon billionaire, therefore Elon evil yet he is actually for free speech - bought X and stood by that, he is anti government bloat. Granted, I don't think he's the kinda guy I'd wanna hang out with all things being equal but :- Help me understand; what are the downsides with having him on board?
Lost-Ad-5022@reddit
good
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
There’s some issues with the guy. He’s been happy to take his a generous cut of government funding in the past. But mostly people here are worried about all the baggage he has and hate that he gets from the legacy media. CNN watching normies think he’s a racist oligarch and all that bullshit. That if he’s associated with Massie then all those people will immediately write Massie off. But those folks were never gonna be down with Massie anyway.
3_Thumbs_Up@reddit
He has spoken out against EV subsidies and think they should be eliminated. Government contracts for SpaceX, while not libertarian, are still very different from subsidies.
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
Excellent point.
RedLineFinalWarning@reddit
He did do 2x Nazi salutes on stage...
Semirahl@reddit
oh ffs. this ridiculous nazi stuff. next you're gonna tell me about russiagate and flat earth and we didn't land on the moon and cyborg abraham lincoln on the grassy knoll. if you really think Elon was doing a nazi salute then I invite you to go get some sunshine and really think about your life.
RonPaulSaves@reddit
No evidence points to any polling shift due to Elon. Elon buying twitter did not shift any polls.
free_is_free76@reddit
The Libertarian Party will gain nothing by hitching its wagon to unprincipled and contradictory Musk. Everyone got behind Trump for throwing us a crumb with Ulbricht, and we got chaos as a result.
As illustrated by Ron Paul during his run, you can get on the debate stage and speak nothing but Truth to the entire Nation, and get nothing back for the trouble.
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
Ron Paul made waves. And he did it in the era of cable news. Cable news is dying. There’s a new media landscape. Massie is poised to make bigger waves if he wants to.
VicRattlehead90@reddit
Not "everyone" got behind Trump. Speak for yourself.
AbolishtheDraft@reddit
Ron Paul didn't advance in the primaries because he didn't have enough money and he didn't have enough media exposure (Fox News and other networks went out of their way to avoid covering Ron and his campaign). The latter problem can be solved to some degree in the modern media landscape. The decentralized internet and podcasts have made it easier for dissident candidates to get their voices heard. But that still leaves the problem of money. If Musk wants to help Massie survive his primary I have no problems with that.
OddRemove2000@reddit
The party will lose nothing as we have nothing as well. Only upside by changing strategy. You can always reject the money later if you want to revert
ATLs_finest@reddit
For president? Massie wouldn't make it that far and musk's money wouldn't put him close to winning. Liberals wouldn't like Massie for obvious reasons and conservatives wouldn't vote for Massie, especially knowing in the background that Musk flipped on Trump. He wouldn't even make it out of the primaries.
Also, Massie would be known as Musk's lapdog. Think about it: has anyone given hundreds of millions of dollars and expected nothing in return? Massie political opponents would simply say that Massie there's a figurehead and Musk is actually running the country
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
Just gotta get him on the debate stage. Elon’s money would get him there. And he’d only be known as Elon’s lapdog if he acted like a lapdog. Give Massie some credit. He’s remained solid and principled. He could have kissed Trump’s ass and fallen in line but he didn’t.
Elon hasn’t asked him for anything. Just supported him. And if he ever does ask for anything that would compromise Massie’s principles, I’m hopeful that he’d stay firm.
RonPaulSaves@reddit
Trump got himself elected and most Trump supporters don’t care about spending increases with this bill.
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
It’s silly to pretend Elon’s support didn’t have a significant impact on the result.
yellowdartsw@reddit
Massie should throw in for the Senate seat in 26
Firm_Newspaper3370@reddit
Obviously I'd let Massie Cook.
But if there's one way to turn people away from Massie it's by having Elon back him.
I can just imagine hearing at work "Hey you hear there's some senator or whatever being backed by Elon Musk? I know who I'm not gonna vote for!"
It would ruin his reputation for anyone who doesn't already know him.
AbolishtheDraft@reddit
If someone is such an unhinged leftist that they would refuse to even research Massie's positions just because Elon supported him, then I don't want that person on my side.
CCWaterBug@reddit
Frankly that's a minimum of 10% of the voting base.
HugbugKayth@reddit
I suspect it's at least 25%
CCWaterBug@reddit
True, i originally thought 20% I was just being nice by assuming that the number would be lower. Either way, there's a measurable chunk that would be completely oblivious to anything beyond the "nazi" aspect. Including libertarian but especially many that lean left.
AbolishtheDraft@reddit
10% we're never going to get. Rather than sucking up to leftists who are going to hate us and vote for AOC regardless, we should target people who are actually open to having their mind changed.
CCWaterBug@reddit
That group just gets smaller than it would have been a week ago.
Also, generally speaking if we're actually talking about a libertarian or 3rd party candidate then let's admit it, your potential support drops by 90%
The voting public supports the two party system, it's constantly reinforced by friends, family, social media, radio TV, pods... you name it.
I've voted 3rd party for some time and despite most of my peers having a general disdain for both the D/R candidates, I've convinced absolutely zero people to vote 3rd party. zero.
It would require a perfect storm and a shitload of money to even double 3rd party support and that still falls 40 pts short of an actual candidate winning.
CCWaterBug@reddit
Yes, the attacks on Elon and all the Nazi bs will forever taint any candidate he backs and forever taint any position he.takes the anti elon crowd isn't going to change their mind even if he woke up tomorrow and was full fledged Democrat again.
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
Dude the upside is so much higher.
Forget about a run for the presidency. If Massie wins reelection in Kentucky. It’s a huge story. Trump and the neocons and big government came at Thomas Massie and he won… that’s such a huge W.
GangstaVillian420@reddit
Massie doesn't need Elon's money. Massie has won every election by at least 30 points.
AbolishtheDraft@reddit
Recent polling has shown that Massie could be in big trouble, he needs all the help he can get.

Corrosive_salts@reddit
Elons money is poison.
AbolishtheDraft@reddit
I agree. I've never trusted Elon, but I have absolutely zero objections about him giving money to Thomas Massie
missl90210@reddit
If Massie plays his cards right he takes the leg up and still does the right thing. Problem is Elon’s grip on X and pushing narrative is a double edged sword. I hope everyone here has a calm collected conversation with the people they can and explain a few things.
JrbWheaton@reddit
The only concern I have is ruining the libertarian brand with Musk toxicity
inanimate_animation@reddit
lol the brand. The brand has been ruined for a while.
Watch MM’s latest interview with Free the People to get a sense of what most people think about us libertarians.
230Amps@reddit
LOL the brand was already ruined by the infighting toxicity. No one has taken the party seriously since 2016. What's the worst that could happen bringing Musk into the fold?
Rstar2247@reddit
Most of the Musk toxicity is the left just throwing a hissy fit at everything they don't like. If it wasn't Musk, it'd be someone else. It likely will be.
PhilRubdiez@reddit
If he throws billions of dollars being anti-MAGA, he just might get back in their good graces. They run on a contrarian autopilot.
Nakedsharks@reddit
We have to be pragmatic. Doing the same old, same old has got us about 3% of the vote on a good year. If Musk wants to cosplay as a libertarian for awhile, I say let him and let him spend all the money he wants getting the message of the holy cause of liberty out there to the masses. I don't care if it's genuine or not (maybe it is, but I doubt it), the message is genuine and we're in no position to be turning away the money and platform Elon can provide.
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
Yep. We just have to be able to hold Massie accountable, not Elon. And I have a lot of hope that Massie won’t compromise. He’s a great candidate. He’s relatable. He can go on Theo Vonn and joke around honestly. It’s been shown that he can. Getting Massie on the republican primary debate stage would be a huge win.
JrbWheaton@reddit
This is true. But we could seriously get some long term brand damage if it ends badly with a Musk/Massie break up
TheRiceConnoisseur@reddit
It takes money to buy whiskey 🥃
Fuck_The_Rocketss@reddit (OP)
I get it. I think it’s dudes like on us to here keep the brand pure. I think guys like Dave Smith and Tom Woods will.
