Parents uncomfortable with guns

Hello, My names cody.
I would like to preface this post with saying I'm not a usual reddit viewer or poster but i heard this is a good place to find a community of like minded individuals. A little background on this post before i get into the meat and potatoes. Me and my family are conversative that moved from Ohio to TN. My parents are not anti-gun in any way shape or form. They just haven't had the need to be involved. I was fortunate enough to come from an upper middle class family who lived in places were firearms were a second though. I'm not 30 and my whole family migrated from Ohio to TN. I sold my house and use the money to buy my family a nice inground pool and am living with my parents. It is better my dad pay me back the money i lent him then pay interest back to the bank. LOL. I've always shot guns at my friends houses in ohio. (alot of them lived on farms and had ranges out back). Now that i'm getting into shooting and I REALLY enjoy it. (My OCD loves to see the improvement after every range session and see groupings getting closer). MY family is of the mindset of you don't need an edc because you've never been in the position where you've needed one. How do I explain to my family just because I like to shoot doesn't mean I'm automatically looking for confrontation.

You sold your house to buy someone else a pool
Bro
Wtf
Green-Vehicle-6071@reddit (OP)
No, i sold my house to migrate, i used some of my profit to lend my father the money to buy a pool. It's just money family and god are for life. He is paying me back once his 401k and pension are not taxed to hell. That wasn't the question I asked. Nor did I delve into it. The question I asked was about the guns.

You’re 30. If you want a gun go buy a gun. You don’t need to convince your parents of anything.
With that being said if you want to ease their minds about it ask them why they keep a fire extinguisher in the house if their house has never caught on fire.

this is the comment I was looking for, not the pocket watchers. You spent how much or did what.
I only brought it up for context of the move and why i moved in with them at this current time.

Buddy it sounds like you got bigger issues
Green-Vehicle-6071@reddit (OP)
I do not have bigger issues, you assumed i just gave away the 50k for the pool. This is a gun forum not a financial advice forum. I don't need your input on my finances. I asked how do i get my afraid of guns parents, accepting of the gun community.

Can we go back to the part where you sold your house to buy a pool for someone else's house.
Green-Vehicle-6071@reddit (OP)
I bought my family the pool with the ground that i would let him pay me back once his retirement isn't taxed to hell.

Yeah Pump the brakes there Big Shoots, how nice is this effing pool?
thor561@reddit
Yeah for real, either this guy sold his house for nothing or that’s a bitchin pool.
tgpussypants@reddit
Yeah that made zero sense

Yeah, dude, it's your right to own a firearm if you want. Find one you like, buy it, practice as much as you can, be safe. Approval from your parents doesn't come into play.
I come from a similar background to you, btw. I went out and bought a gun. I didn't consult my parents.
Billybob_Bojangles2@reddit
Throw out their fire extinguisher, by their logic you shouldn't have one.
Feisty-Tadpole-5127@reddit
Because I like it simple as that

My house has never caught fire, but I still have smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Just because something is rare doesn't mean you shouldn't be capable of taking care of yourself/family if it does. It never hurts to have extra tools in the toolbox, and just because you're capable and prepared doesn't mean you're paranoid.

"why do you need to wear a seatbelt if you have never been in a car accident?"
