We used to be able to talk into the back of a fan and give ourselves Darth Vader voice.

Try that with a modern fan, it doesn't work. Apparently this is due to better aerodynamics in pursuit of noise reduction. Never forget what the nerds at Big Fan took from us.

Still works with a box fan, my kid's been doing Darth voice for years!

I just tried it on mine and spelled “attic.”
I didn’t get the darth vader voice but did make myself giggle like a 3rd grader.

On the other side of this: I splurged on a shark earlier a month ago and hoo-boy… those nerds know what’s up. Super quiet, huge rotation radius (it can really say no to things), cordless if needed, and a detachable desktop option. We even bought the mister attachment. I’ve been ahem blown away by the advances in fan technology.
