So what are the differences between the M1A and the Mini 14?

They are both basically derivatives of the M14 battle rifle right? Aww there any key differences between them? Are they exactly the same as a M14?

Size, caliber, gas system. Cosmetically, and mechanically they are very similar, but not the same.

I think you’re not understand the “mini” part of mini 14

The Mini 14 and M1A dont share a single cross compatable component.
EVERYTHING is different, from each individual part, caliber, and manufacturer.
The only things they share are a similar look and manual of arms.

M1A is just a M14 without the selector hardware mounting area, and for all intents and purposes, should be considered a semiautomatic version of the M14. All of the parts (should) interchange.
The Mini 14 is, effectively, a scaled down version of the M14, which has small variations in the design (notably the gas system, and the bolt stop), as well as being chambered in 5.56 instead of 7.62

Mini 14 is chambered in intermediate length cartridges: 223Rem/556NATO, 300BO, etc.
M1A is chambered in short action cartridges such as 308Win.
