How about an obscure Kevin Bacon movie?

Anyone familiar with this one? As a kid it made me fearful of bridges, whitewater, camping and the wilderness in general.

This isn’t obscure at all. It’s mandatory viewing. Kevin Bacon in an excellent villain role.

Also in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Love this movie!

Great movie with a realistic ratchet to the sadistic nature of a leader who means well but crosses the line.
I liked the fact they didn’t take it too extreme. Kevin’s character never went too over the top, and everyone stayed more or less realistic.

I just remember male teenage voices screaming “Vic” over and over

The tonal shift in this movie is epic.

Absolutely. I love the 2nd half of this movie. Seemed like it was on HBO everyday one summer.

I've never watched this but really should. It's apparently (very) loosely based on my dad's terrible camp experience.
Profeshinal_Spellor@reddit
Hell yeah. I just took my 16 year old son and 3 of his friends backpacking last weekend and after the trip I them to watch this for laughs
Mean_Handle6707@reddit
Wtf. I remember The River Wild.

If I had a nickel for every Kevin Bacon film about white water rafting, I would have 2 nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Came here to make this joke. Dammit!
Calbebes@reddit
Lol same. Like, wasn’t he in The River Wild?…. Which was also about white water rafting?
hamburgler26@reddit
I remembered this one because I think most people just think of River Wild. Watched both. Damn Kevin Bacon is great in River Wild, I haven't hated a character so much in a movie in a while. Had forgotten most of the movie so was quite a ride.
CoralQuilts@reddit
That’s a great movie
hamburgler26@reddit
Found this and watched it recently, still really fun.
Reasonable-Wave8093@reddit
Hell yeah, pair it w his cyclist movie Quicksilver (reimagined as premium rush)
Flowing_Greem@reddit
The River Wild was crazy great!!

He’s a good villain!

Shelved for two years after production and then they shot the "host segments" with Sean Astin when someone finally decided to out money into distribution. I think this alone makes it a very unique film.
Also it never occurred to me as a kid that Kevin Bacon really didn't know what he was going to do if Astin never made it back to camp. When the kids try to abandon him he realizes he could have been responsible for the death of a kid and he was probably going to jail or at least being sued with all the kids against him.
Falling off that cliff was the best outcome for him.

Loved this movie growing up.

We watched this at 2am on the Sealy Posturpedic Late Night Movie. Haha
Defiant-Difference17@reddit
This was on one of our many vhs "mixtapes". Saw it sooo many times and was always so happy when Sean fights back. Kevin's character was a real asshole
not_today333@reddit
yeah, i recall it was supposed to be fun not a nightmare.
snoopmt1@reddit
Watch it every summer! It's a banger.
jtho78@reddit
Not this puppy.
schizrade@reddit
They filmed a bunch of scenes around where I was living at the time (Sierra County). EVERYONE was pumped about famous people even anywhere near all of us in the middle of nowhere. 😂
StillhasaWiiU@reddit
Crazy that Sean Astin isn't also on the box.
SinsOfThePast03@reddit
Watched the hell out of this growing up
