Moving to France, but concerned with my pending charges

I just wanted to get information from you all if I would be able to expat to France with a 4th degree assault charge. nothing serious happened, and it's probably going to get dropped, because the account of alcohol was involved and it was just a bad bout between me and my significant other. Shit got out of hand and she called the cops because she was wasted and I won't go any further than that. But we've been talking about moving outside the United States, and if these charge HAPPEN to stick, what are my chances?

How exactly were you planning to “expat” to France in the first place? What sort of visa have you been granted? I’m going to assume you’re not an EU citizen.

I already knew you were from the same homeland as me when you said 4th degree assault. Lol.
Don't step foot in France until it is dropped. Go to court and do whatever you need to to prevent it from sticking. The charges pending might be enough for them to cancel your visa upon arrival and sending your ass back home. But if the charges are dropped, then you should be good. If they stick, your visa might be auto canceled.
Also, why are you doing stupid shit to throw your future away? Or alternatively, making America a worse place to live in?

Unfortunately, alcohol is the devil and I've been battling it for a while... the other person involved doesn't want this happening, neither, and we're both working on trying to get this dropped.

If you struggle with alcohol, France is probably not the country for you.

Don't come please

I understand where you're coming from.

This question is better for a legal advice sub, but when you don't show up for court, the plaintiff typically gets a default judgment in their favor.
A criminal conviction could then cause you to be unable to renew your visa and force you to repatriate.

Do you have a visa that you qualify for?
