Just thought about this guy

The 3 tenors post gave me flashbacks to when Lord of the Dance was the VHS everyone’s mom had to have. Michael Flatley really was incredibly talented, but god he was SO cheesy. He always felt like a tap dancing version of Fabio to me.

Homer, you’re the real Lord of the Dance

Lord Of The Dance, Fabio, and Yanni were the trifecta for 90's moms.
gottarespondtothis@reddit
What no love for our brother Kenny G?!
PMichaelB89@reddit
I feel like Kenny G had broader appeal while Yanni was exclusively a 90's mom phenomenon. Maybe you're right, though. Call it a superfecta.
Muted-Possibility168@reddit
Or a subparfecta…

Riverdance was on our family’s TV, every time it aired on PBS.
Ah, the memories.

Blew my mind when I learned he’s American.

Now I get why he's so annoyingly arrogant.

I loved when Conan O'Brien issued a fake apology to Michael Flatley saying: "we meant to call you Lord of the Dance, not Swishy McJackass"

I remember Dennis Leary's bit about this more than anything about Flatley himself.

I saw Riverdance live the night it was performed (I was working in a hotel in Dublin near to where the Eurovision was hosted , and there was a short encore performance there , I was working beside the function room and sneaked in to watch it )

Flatley my dear, I don't Riverdance.
Top-Telephone9013@reddit
He started in at least one vanity project action movie in the 2000's and it was fucking TERRIBLE. Wish I could remember the name of it. He played a James Bond knockoff

Well, it HAS been a while since that episode, don't be too hard on yourself. Of course, my opinion is moo.
"You know how a cow's opinion doesn't matter? It's moo."

Michael Flatley wrote, directed, produced and starred in a movie, that he self financed, called Blackbird.
Mark Kermode’s review of it is one for the ages

HopelesslyHuman@reddit
Michael seemed to let the whole thing go to his head but he was an incredible dancer. Riverdance was fantastic. I saw the 30th anniversary tour at the Kennedy Center earlier this year. Still outstanding and the modern adds they've made to it are fun.
I admit that I have strangely nostalgic attachments to Riverdance though and I guess I can see why some people might find it silly or whatever. U always loved it though.
Metzger4Sheriff@reddit
One of my friends in middle school and I both took it super seriously. She was the one that broke the news to me when he left, and I think my response was "Poor Jean. She's going to have to have a new partner" 😂
MF didn't come off great but the fact that the show doesn't appear to credit any choreographer seems shady af and kind of makes me believe his version of the story. There was a biopic series in the works, but not sure if that's still moving forward.

I’ve watched this so many times as a kid

Is he?? No!! Not another one lost to the cult. Please be wrong.
No-Muffin-874@reddit
When my 4 year old son was a little younger we called him Michael Flatley and riverdance, because he would do an oddly similar little dance and he had never seen it! His arms would be straight down and he'd pretty much run in place. His mom and I both have Irish heritage, so maybe it's in his blood lol
CheezeLoueez08@reddit
That’s hilarious 🤣

Is that Michael Nelson?

Dave attell: tell a boy to lick the bowl, lick the bowl, lick a man’s hairy balls. That’s how to gay up a kid. Next he’s lord of the river dance

I cackled at 'tap dancing version of Fabio' haha!
I lived in the UK, and when Michael Flatley got famous, ALL the mums were trying to sign their daughters up for Irish dance lessons, and there wasn't that many about at first. It was like a collective losing of minds. It's not like they were frothing at the mouth to sign us up to Morris Dancing because they wanted us to remember our roots or something, just Irish dancing - it was absolutely the Michael Flatley effect.
