This is a cool airplane. Wouldn't mind piloting one of these.
° And apparently, people got paranoid over my F22 post.°

I was definitely an Icon skeptic after they lost something like 4 of the first 10 built, went through a couple of bankruptcies, were bought by the Chinese (like basically any GA company except BeechCessnaPiper now), and had that no-resales contract, but they've managed to deliver nearly 200 of the things so far, so good for them, I suppose.

Lmao Chinese bought them. Didn't know about that.

Sorry... not my fave. Icon as a company gives me Tesla vibes. It is a neat concept that I think needed more time to test and refine.

Is there actually any issues with Icon A5? It’s a highly crashed plane because it’s flown by rich people who don’t fly responsibly. I think the plane itself is fine.
Tesla is a bad comparison because while we can dislike the leadership all we want, they still are widely considered the best product in the market.

My issue with the A5 boils down to higher than average maintenance costs, and Icons contracts that to my mind are kind of difficult to deal with. AOPA wrote an article about it in 2016, and while I think Icon backed out of the worst elements, I still think it's sketchy. And to my mind the A5 is just expensive for what it is. You could get a more capable XCub for that kind of money. Or save the money and buy an older float plane. I do agree that the crashes are mostly people who overestimated their skills. My two cents.

Man these kind of got me into aviation and then once I knew a bit more I ended up buying a 60 yr old Cessna with twice the performance, granted I can’t tow it in a trailer or land it in water more than once but still. Their marketing back in the day was pretty cool.

Just don't forget to lock the wings.
