Janice may be Gabrielle’s collateral / indirect descendant through Lila / Sara.
Or maybe her direct descendant through Hope (because you can’t keep a good demidemon / demigoddess down).

I mean Gabrielle was quite young when Xena died. I hope she would have lived to an old age and had a family even. That doesn't make her love with Xena less special. It also fits her character to one want to have kids and a family life. So the answer I think is, well anyone - when she was ready.

As this is before we know that, Solan died and Eve exists then Hope also exists all. But also dies. As we don’t know, if Gabrielle didn’t have another child in the future.
After the series ended as I think she could have. I mean, what would stop Gaby from having another child later on.

To answer your question: I think she didn’t because I don’t think she would have a relationship that could lead to that, I know not everyone agrees but I do think it’s an important part of her character that she doesn’t want that kind of relationship. I think she does have child trauma to heal, because of Hope and Eve and I think she can reckon with that through the children that Eve and Sarah have (as I think Mel and Janice imply probable kids for for each other them). There are definitely other explanations that involve Gabrielle having her own kids, but I also just don’t really like the idea of her having to go through a pregnancy because of how triggering it would be! So I prefer to think Janice is from Lila’s line and there’s nothing to say that isn’t the case, so I go with it!

Ok, I see what you are trying to say. But I don’t think the Hope thing, would have stop Gabrielle wanting to another child. If she wanted to in the future, I she would eventually move past that.
Sarah could possibly continue the line, but that makes me wonder. If she would have child of her own with man, since what she’s been through being kidnapped. By Gurkhan and enslaved her to be his wife.
Before Gabrielle and Xena saved and came to her rescued, before she returned her back to her mother Lila.
As like I said, we can’t assume that. Gabrielle didn’t have anymore children, after the show.

Yeah it’s definitely possible she’d be fine, I also just think the idea of a pregnant Gabrielle is triggering for me after Gabrielle’s Hope so I prefer not to think about it lol.
And that’s a good point about Sarah! She likely also would have her own trauma to get through. It’s also possible she’d be fine.
And yeah, I’m not saying it’s certain that she doesn’t, just that I prefer that interpretation and that I think it works perfectly fine with canon.

Of carried her for 9 months as Gaby had her and gave birth to Hope, probably in minutes and grow into a toddler in hours.
If Gabrielle did decide to have another child as she does have go through, the normal 9 months process and she probably would be bonding with her child in the wound.

I don’t know I think that whole situation would be traumatic. I don’t mean she wouldn’t want to do it again because she’d be scared of the kid being like Hope, assuming it was intentional and not too mystical. She probably had to work through those fears with Eve. But I think having gone through the awful process of being impregnated against her knowledge and will and then really quickly going through all of the processes of pregnancy and labor without knowing what’s going on, that would probably pit me off of ever wanting to be pregnant again.

Ok, I see your point. It would be scary to go through that again. But the difference is, Gabrielle would go through the normal process of pregnancy. As she have bonded with the child in her womb, before he or she would be born.
Like Xena bond Eve in her worn, before Eve was born.
If she ever decided that, she wants to have a child. Somewhere in her future.
While Gabrielle didn’t get time to though with Hope, because she grew inside of Gabrielle so fast and she wasn’t born normally as a normal baby.
The situation with Eve, might be complicated. As either Gabrielle or Xena had no control of Eve, would become in the 25 years of the jump skip and Gaby relationship with Eve as baby.
Might be difficult for her to bond with Eve, only because she never experience how to be a parent to a child.

But I like to think Gabrielle probably would have settled down at some point, have a kid and spend time raising her child with family or friend like her Amazon sisters.
As she didn’t have to worry about her child doing bad thing like Hope and Eve, like I said she and Xena had no control of what Eve would become in the future in their absence.
As I think she spend more time with her child, make sure that it probably won’t happen again.
Unlike Hope and Eve, like said she had no control over that. With Hope born from evil and Eve being chased by Gods, because they fear that she could destroyed them one day. After Xena conceive her by greatest enemy Callisto.
Since Gabrielle is on her own now without Xena, as we don’t know what she up to after losing her true love. If she ever continue her journey without Xena, as I like think Gabrielle would want to sit it down and perhaps have it another time of her own.
She won’t have to worry about it, her child being evil or anyone trying to chase after her child. If Gabrielle getting pregnant with some normal guy kid, as Gabrielle been on journey with Xena for a long time.
As probably it time for her to spend time on herself.

Yeah I think I have elements of that in my headcanon, I like the idea of her going to the amazons with Eve and being very involved with Eve’s kid(s). I also personally think that Xena will come back at some point so there’s that. The possibilities are endless for post canon!

That would be possible if Ares didn't specifically said that she's the descendant of Gabrielle, not simply coming from her family.

Except that nobody specified direct or lineal descendant, who can vertically trace a lineage to a person, vs a collateral or indirect descent, that can be through a sibling or a niece.
Janice can be a direct descendant of Sarah, and a collateral descendant of Gabrielle. Both are ambiguous and applicable when only the word "descendant" is used.

If that would be the case, there would be no reason for Ares to point out Gabrielle and Xena having a pep talk with Janice who was ashamed that she was Gabrielle's descendant. It would be a pointless discussion if they're just ignoring the direct descendant and having a chat about someone who's just related but not an actual descendant.

Not necessarily true. We don’t know Sarah’s life after Gurkhan. It could be she was someone of little importance, and gained a reputation as Gabrielle’s sister. Gabrielle’s scrolls became legendary and even an indirect descendant could know the prestige of their ancestor.
And Janice’s only shame about Gab was that she first perceived her as a weakling, but she could have well regarded her as an author.

The point of the scene is that she’s related to Gabrielle and ashamed of that because Gabrielle’s entire reputation before the reveal of the Xena scrolls is as an irritating sidekick.
And then yeah, there’s nothing about the scene that says she needs to be a direct descendent specifically for the scene to make sense. She thought she was related to Xena and is sad to learn that she’s related to someone who she perceives to be inferior to Xena.

I guess it's a possibility. Though I'm fairly sure that when the episode was written, they didn't think of that, given the running gag of these situation where descendants are played by the ancestor actors.

Besides, descendants happen through adoption as well. Janice could be a descendant without being blood related, and she just happens to look like Gabrielle…or she is both reincarnated Gabrielle and a descendant.
