Uh guys I literally just started researching for an AR22 build like yesterday, if someone could let me know if this is BIN price that’d be sweet. Heard this fella has the cream of the crop AR22 build kits.
Western_Leader_117@reddit
It really depends what you’re looking for.
If your priority is budget, I’d recommend a complete upper from Right To Bear. They’re very cheap, quality cmmg type parts, and assembled well. I’ve purchased complete builds and assembled builds from their parts, and had basically the same experience. It will work, with the only real draw back being accuracy.
If your priority is accuracy, this upper is absolutely BIN and you’ll have an incredibly accurate gun (that is, for a .22 semi automatic rifle). I also have bore buddy, and since trying them out, would never consider anything less than because it’s far more fun to be accurate. That said, the RTB stuff is plenty fine for fun plinking. But the RTB groups are about 2-3 inches wider at 100 yards.
Apprehensive-Tap6980@reddit
How accurate can you get from this upper?
No-Needleworker-5160@reddit
1/2 hole at 50 yards. Love it
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
How much are you willing to spend per round on ammo?
Apprehensive-Tap6980@reddit
Like using Eley match?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Using Match ammo (15-30cpr) you'll probably see 1.5moa quite easily. Perhaps 1 or sub with lot testing and the higher end ammo like Center-X. The Match uppers are easier to get 1 or less in.
Western_Leader_117@reddit
Accuracy is highly dependent on ammo choice in a .22. Personally, aguila super extra 40 gr is the sweet spot for me when it comes to price/performance ratio.
With that ammo at 100 yards while seated at a shooting rest: BB 3-4 inches; RTB 6-8 inches.
I am by no means a professional and would assume at least 1 inch of the group is my own user error.
dougb803@reddit
Yes sir I was looking for a higher quality AR style 22 with aspirations of 100yd accurate plinking so you just told me what I needed to hear. Wish the FDE was on sale too but beggars can’t be choosers.
Do you mind if I ask what scope you ran with your BoreBuddy AR22? And are the pressure plugs and QuietBCG worth the couple extra bucks additional to this kit?
Thanks for the input
No-Needleworker-5160@reddit
I have very same upper and it more accurate than my ruger 10/22 with FJ Feddersen bull barrel at 50 yards.
I added quiet bolt, pressure plug and bolt catch with lighter spring.
Western_Leader_117@reddit
If you want a completed upper this is the way to go. If you build, use their barrel and bolt and choose whatever upper receiver you like.
As far as optics, I use Primary Arms GLX 1x prism for 7 inch barrel and their 5x prism for the 16 inch barrel upper. The PA prisms look great for me with astigmatism in both eyes. And the 5x is much lighter than a 1-6x lpvo that I’d keep at 6x most of the time.
SkataN369@reddit
It’s 300 w/o BCG. I built mine for slightly less with shipping. If you want a BCG PSA has one for 106. I would say decent to good deal. I wouldn’t load up on all the drop downs till you shoot it and learn what you need.
FreedomFocused_@reddit
Have link for BCG? Is it similar quality BCG like borebuddy? Can the adjustable weight be added to it?
SkataN369@reddit
I don’t know the quality of the bore buddy one. But I’ve built it about 7 months ago and I’m about ~4k rounds through it.

FreedomFocused_@reddit
Looks about the same
Bingo_9991@reddit
Cmmg makes the rtb, psa, and bore buddy bcg from what I remember
SkataN369@reddit
I do recommend their 22 buffers. And man they are pretty spot on with the round count. They claim at least 1k rounds and I shit you not at or near the 1100ish is when I have had to replace mine
FreedomFocused_@reddit
Damn, that’s crazy
SkataN369@reddit
I the the adjustable weight works for all the carries of this style. I looked at many images of all. They are identical in every way I observed
FreedomFocused_@reddit
That’s what it seems like when I looked at the PSA one, thank you

I ordered a 22lr AR Premium Reliability Bundle from Borebuddy in November 2022 for $130 for my previously purchased CMMG conversion bolt. I am thinking about buying an Apogee Upper but since I have not used the bolt and Borebuddy Reliability Bundle in probably 2 years I was wondering if it would makes sense to just buy what I need to make my current bolt and parts work. What more than just a collar do I need to make my current parts with with a complete Apogee Upper?
Back in 2022 I received about 3 CMMG magazine with the CMMG bolt. I bought probably 2 smaller capacity S&W AR15-22 mags and 4 larger capacity S&W magazines. I bought a Catch22 V2 bolt catch, 4 S&W stick on adapters and 1 S&W clip on adapter. I never used the stick on adapters and later bought a S&W AR15-22 rifle during a $75 rebate promo. I did not care to swap parts back and forth on my AR15 to switch between 22LR and 5.56. The V2 bolt catch was difficult to remove and reinstall. The poor precision of the AR15 barrel with 22LR caused me to loose interest in shooting it. The S&W AR15-22 is more of a range toy that I have for others at the range that I don't care to shoot myself probably due to feel of plastic and also due to poor precision. For now I would rather use my Tikka T1x if shooting any of my 22LR rifles. I think I would enjoy shooting a dedicated AR22 with a barrel that can shoot tight groups at 50 and 100 yards.
What can I use that I have and what should I buy in addition to the upper? Should I buy another bolt or does it make sense to use my current bolt? What more should I but other than a collar?
What should I but for the lower? Should I buy and install the V1 catch? Are my S&W mags and clip good enough?
I was thinking about buying a Super Safety but since news of the lawsuits I don't know if that is still an option.
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Swap the collar and use your kit to upgrade your existing bolt.
For the lower we recommend our bolt catch with the Kriss mags.
Check out our Apogee Match line if accuracy is what you are looking for. The Apogee is a great shooter, but the match barrels are a bit stiffer.
Super safety parts are still available. We have an add on option for parts neded for that with the uppers.
funkyfactory29@reddit
Do you have any idea on what you can expect in terms of MOA from an Apogee?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
What ammo are you using?
funkyfactory29@reddit
More just trying to decide which upper to go with. Let's say you were to use SK match in both.
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
You'd probably see 3-4moa in the economy (16") and around 1.5moa in an Apogee (12" or 16")
SlickWithIt_@reddit
match barrels on sale?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Uppers are, individual barrels are not.
Train2Perfection@reddit
Are these as compatible?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Yes, with the SS add-on option.
FrankyBenjamin@reddit
Do you sell a complete upper with SS parts installed ready to go?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
No, but they take all of 1 minute to pop into the bolt, but the tuning has to be done by the user.
FrankyBenjamin@reddit
If looking to upgrade a CMMG bolt in an existing upper what would be needed? Can you post a link please? Thanks for the info!
FrankyBenjamin@reddit
Just found this: https://borebuddy.com/wp-content/uploads/SS.pdf
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Yep, that's the guide to follow. We have a super safety bundle for bolts that are not ours.
usertimes37@reddit
Regarding the quiet bolt upgrade, what are the benefits and drawbacks of using it on a 16” with adjustable weight that won’t ever be suppressed? Right now I’m leaning towards regular bolt since I’m not too concerned with the noise. Will quiet collar help with reliability/longevity at all if I’m already using the weight? Just another wear item - in other words, will the regular bolt be less maintenance down the road?
Another question: how often are bolt buffers typically replaced?
Bingo_9991@reddit
Super safety use mostly, and tuning. I'd rather have an adjustable weight than non. The quiet collar should help with bolt bounce with super safety iirc. If you buy one it's basically mandatory you get a super safety with it. Most fun you'll have with your pants on
usertimes37@reddit
Thanks for the info. Cant go that route unfortunately, California
Bingo_9991@reddit
Cali eats corn the long way

Any suggestions on the "lightnin" vs. Tippmann loaders for kriss mags?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Tippmann.
Aerofirefighter@reddit
Ship to WA?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Yep.
FreedomFocused_@reddit
How about a 10% sale on apogee match uppers?
BoreBuddy@reddit (OP)
Match uppers are on sale as well.
FreedomFocused_@reddit
Saw that, 5%… give us 10% pretty please 🙏🏼

I currently own a CMMG 22LR AR conversion kit - https://cmmg.com/22lr-ar-conversion-kit-bravo-w-3-magazines-blk , and want to build a dedicated 22lr upper. Could I purchase this with no bolt carrier group and just use the one i have from CMMG? sorry if its a stupid question thank you !
da_ten_shi_yo_ha_ne@reddit
yep, you just need this barrel collar: https://borebuddy.com/product/22lr-barrel-collar/ to replace the chamber insert on the conversion kit
mandg0n@reddit
Thank you !
