Yes, let’s make methods more widely accessible
Some_Nibblonian@reddit
Fake news. Someone was all setup to record it, then zooms in stands by and does nothing. I don't think so.
genialerarchitekt@reddit
Why is it staged? Haven't you heard of motion detector security cams that automatically zoom in on the location where the motion is detected as well as identifying what kind of object/creature is doing the moving? It's not exactly hi-tech stuff, I have 3 such cameras around the house, cost less than $150.
Some_Nibblonian@reddit
and it wobbles around in a vertical format? It's already been debunked elsewhere in the thread. Look alive buddy.
stormdelta@reddit
I don't know whether this specific video is fake, but long and thin U-locks like this can be broken that way because it's too easy to get an angle of leverage that can snap them.
You want short, thick U-locks.
sanjuro_kurosawa@reddit
There's a hardened steel shackle, my guess 11mm thick, and two guys using an aluminum bicycle tube for a breaker bar will snap steel?
Guess why there are no 2mm hollow aluminum breaker bars at Harbor Freight?
sparhawk817@reddit
So I hear you, but is that bike aluminum? Looks like the skinnier tubing that's more common with chromoly steel frames.
That said, still staged, not that we don't see people use a signpost or pieces of scaffolding as a breaker bar to accomplish the same thing. Usually we see that through grainy ass security footage though.
sanjuro_kurosawa@reddit
I assumed it was aluminum because that's fairly common now. Steel, whether it is hi ten or cromo, is not going to be significantly stronger.
We're talking a frame which is still designed to be lightweight breaking a hardened steel shackle.
qe2eqe@reddit
I think you're mistaking hardness for toughness.
Hard things dont bend under load, they break. There's always a trade-off between hardness and toughness, and hardened steel is basically untoughened steel.
sanjuro_kurosawa@reddit
I'm afraid I'm discussing this with a material engineer, which I am not. I'm just using layman terms and concepts.
I just think of steel which has been treated to be cut and break resistant as "hardened". A u-lock is designed to be exactly that.
I'm not saying a u-lock shackle is as hard as a diamond of course.
qe2eqe@reddit
Ideally you'd have two steels, hard on the surface, tough below. It should be layman's knowledge that blades either keep an edge (hard) or resist breakage (tough), or some artful mix of the two. High end blades are either Damascus steel (soft and hard steel folded and flattened, like filo dough, or theyre laminated, a soft core forge welded to a hard edge. The lock shackle looks pretty homogeneous to me
sanjuro_kurosawa@reddit
As soon as you mentioned two steels, I mentally referenced the dozen seasons of Forged In Fire I've watched.
They don't make bike tubing or u-locks like that. It's one kind of steel which is shaped, ie butted tubes, which is done to reduce weight.
What does happen with locks is sometimes different materials like a plastic sheath to make it harder for certain kinds of cutting tools, but it's generally avoided since the sawzall cuts all.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
Exactly correct. So this is hardened steel, designed to resist cutting. There isn't a good way to also prevent brittleness. With many materials you increase hardness at the cost of brittleness, and steel is very much in that group.
sparhawk817@reddit
Oh absolutely agreed, I think you need more leverage than the bike provides, and that the steel shackle would likely buckle the thin wall tubing that is used in a steel bike frame.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
I originally edited this video, this is the bike, a Giant Escape. https://imgur.com/a/3Ti4edh
The shackle on the Abus 402 snapped easily at its thinnest point, where the diameter is reduced to roughly 7mm to engage the locking mechanism. I believe this is because the hardened steel is designed to resist cutting, but the hardening process makes it more brittle than it would otherwise be.
You are totally right that a hollow aluminium breaker bar would not be reusable, but as I mentioned in the video, the thieves don't care if it works once or zero times. They will try it anyway, and they will sell the bike with a damaged frame to someone who is willing to turn a blind eye to the crime.
dbcooper4@reddit
It probably works with cheap u-locks since you can slice through those with bolt cutters and enough leverage. I agree it’s not working with true hardened steel construction.
ElishaAlison@reddit
Could you explain this sentence to me like I'm 5? I havent the slightest clue what it means and I'm just curious haha
CerebralAccountant@reddit
A breaker bar is a long, heavy rod that you (ab)use to try and break a stubborn bolt free. You might push it, shove it, hit it with a sledgehammer, stand on it... anything goes.
2 mm is thin, like 20 sheets of paper, aluminum is one of the lightest and weakest metals, and a hollow bar is lighter and weaker than a solid one. If you tried to use a 2 mm hollow aluminum bar as a breaker, it would fail instantly. The same thing should happen if you try to break a strong D-lock with a bicycle frame.
ElishaAlison@reddit
Oh I think I understand! So like, the aluminum bike frame is like a 2mm breaker bar, right?
Thank you! I learned a new thing today😁
CerebralAccountant@reddit
Exactly.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
I originally created this video, you can see the original discussion here.
We run a "community watch" facebook group for bike theft in our city as we have the highest rate of bike crime in the UK (per capita). There are 8400 members in the group, in a city with 120,000 residents. Posts from the group are often in the local newspaper and the group has been featured on BBC news more than once.
This means that there are hundreds of people in the city who know they should start filming if they see something suspicious happening around bikes. It is very rare for us to catch footage like this and in 6 years of running the group we have known about this technique but nobody has ever caught it on camera before. We probably catch 1 in 100 thefts on camera. But over enough time, it's just a matter of probability that someone will be able to catch something like this.
The person who filmed it was on the third storey of an old university building and they "do nothing"? By the time they would get down the stairs to intervene, the thieves would be gone.
ZombieHuggerr@reddit
Theoretically, wouldn't the recording give you a strong case for insurance, so you can get it all paid for?
Responsible_Sink3044@reddit
Is bike insurance common?
danielv123@reddit
Most house insurance here covers 4k worth of bike as long as it was locked with an approved lock. The video proves both that it was stolen and locked. A picture of the lock can prove whether it was approved or not.
00gauge@reddit
Yes, Velosurance is a popular one.
ItsMangel@reddit
I get where you're coming from, but people don't do shit about bike theft.
Not to mention, this is the UK. These guys roll up in broad daylight on a moped with no tags, twist the bike off, and roll away because they know they can get away with it.
GalwayBogger@reddit
Sir, this is the UK. People are too polite to stop crimes.
Harryw_007@reddit
This is the UK, no one would ever intervene lmao
Dazzling-Crab-75@reddit
If that is indeed an ABUS lock (I don't see one online in that color but it could be an old model), it's one of the weakest ones they make. No way they're doing that with a level 15.
truthwatchr@reddit
It’s a a Walmart/Amazon lock. That bike would have broken long before an Abus Lock.
Dazzling-Crab-75@reddit
I have an ABUS u-lock and an ABUS chain, both rated at the highest strength. I might get a second u-lock, though I think I could probably stand to go a little less extreme on that one. Maybe a 12?
truthwatchr@reddit
At that point it is just so much less appealing they’re not gonna waste time on it and go after something else.
soaero@reddit
Honestly, a torsion attack shouldn't work on any level of ABUS lock. That's a serious black mark.
DJKaito@reddit
This lock is one of Abus lower end U-locks. Btw.
Reinis_LV@reddit
You could try to do it and bend your top tube. Or if carbon, totally crunch it
Small-Revolution-636@reddit
Yeah but the thief doesn't give a shit. He'll try it, break your frame, and move onto the next one.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
It's an Abus 402, only 11mm shackle. https://www.biketart.com/products/abus-402-d-lock
Old_Mousse_5673@reddit
The problem is exasperated by it having such a long shackle as well, giving lots of room for the thieves to lift and twist the lock around
Less-Celebration-676@reddit
exacerbated
CakeTester@reddit
*Exacerbated

Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
Yes, that does help them slide the bike up over the rack so quickly.
Calisto_angel@reddit
Exacto!!! Estaba viendo el candado y se vé bastante endeble. Puede que sea una copia china
sjmuller@reddit
There is no way they broke a hardened steel D lock with an aluminum bike frame. The frame would have been dented and mangled like the ones later in the video.
dbcooper4@reddit
You can boil these videos down to “don’t use a cheap lock.” Use hardened steel with dual locking shackles for u-locks.
Individual_Laugh1335@reddit
I’m not even very strong but 70lbs one person could probably handle and 2 could easily handle. It just gives them more leverage against the lock.
dbcooper4@reddit
My Kryptonite lock is a 10/10 on their security scale.
margo_plicatus@reddit
Can’t comment on whether your lock would fare better or not, but pretty sure they’d be able to handle 35# apiece.
dbcooper4@reddit
It’s not enough to just be able to pick up the bike. You’ve got to also be able to apply enough torque at the same time to snap the u-lock.
Excited_Biologist@reddit
Just remember: master lock rates their highest security lock a 10/10 and it doesn’t mean shit because all master locks are garbage quality
Sorry-Committee2069@reddit
If yours has an in-frame battery, you can lock around that so they also probably puncture the battery trying to take it.
This is all-or-nothing, yes, but better that than nothing. At least you still have the lock and remains for a warranty attempt, for brands that offer theft warranty.
Sheshirdzhija@reddit
But such thieves maybe would not know it, and would try it, and how would your bike handle it?
dbcooper4@reddit
The reality is if they see a strong lock they’re going to move on to the next bike and not waste their time and energy.
thatguy52@reddit
That’s what I was thinking lol. I have the same lock, and like….. there’s no way u can sheer that thing
EvilNeverDies78@reddit
Yup. Kryptonite it is for me as well.
Adventureadverts@reddit
The attack on your bike would destroy your frame however.. the moral of the story is to lock your bike properly and not just with a strong lock.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
Hardened steel is very resistant to cutting, but surprisingly brittle if enough force is applied. This is an Abus 402 lock so it's one of their weakest, only 11mm shackle. And it's a lottery, some of the locks do snap and some of them bend. The ones that bend... we see those in the photos at the end. You can see the high res pics here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ukbike/comments/1kw3llq/video_shows_2_thieves_break_abus_dlock_and_escape/
The frame often IS damaged after an attack like this but the thieves don't care. They can still sell it damaged for £100, or they can take the parts and put them onto other bikes.
Oli99uk@reddit
They aren't using the bike frame, they are using the sheffield stand.
Dont_tell_my_friends@reddit
They can't choose where the force is distributed. It'd be going through the stand and the bike frame.
Oli99uk@reddit
Look again.
Enough of the lock is left open to allow leverage on the stand whilst keeping the bike frame safe.
Thats why all locking guides tell you to fill the gap.
So yes, they actually are choosing where the force is distributed.
codecrodie@reddit
Thief is brave to ride that frame after mistreating it like that.
Grand_Werewolf_9250@reddit
I put that on top, but a 3kg chain in front, and it is impossible to turn the bike with everything I put on it.
imtheshade@reddit
and i want to add some razor blades to my bike in choice location......
Gcmarcal@reddit
I bought those long cables and wrap around the whole bike, and even went within the seat support. It is a pain every time I need to go somewhere quickly, but Is a good deterrent.
Funky_Monkey_95@reddit
this is why the police recommend 2 locks of different types and high "Sold Secure" ratings.
Sold Secure Gold chain and D-Lock is a good combination.
Odd_Trifle6698@reddit
That’s why I use a U lock and not a D lock
N3onzz@reddit
Well well looks like that lock isnt sold secure rated 🤣🤣
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
It's sold secure rated... bronze
theatrenearyou@reddit
If that one was fake setup, look at this real one that also uses leverage ---> two dirtbags who break the lock by inserting a pipe or metal pole and popping it apart.
truthwatchr@reddit
This one is a very cheap lock.
Can’t pry an Abus unless they have a trucks weight on it. It takes over 5,000lbs of force to pop one of them. They had to use an industrial hydraulic machine to do it.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
This is a regular Abus 402 lock. One of the weakest Abus locks, but the fact it's hardened steel means that with enough force the shackle is sometimes brittle enough to snap.
truthwatchr@reddit
The real locks would break that bike first. Hence I’m right and wrong. It’s a cheap lock. The $100+ ones would take a machine to break open and even then the bike frame would probably be destroyed in the process.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
Yes, the top of the line locks don't appear to be vulnerable to this. But lower end locks (from all brands) are, and we've seen it on plenty of occasions, as well as failed attempts.
At the end of the day it doesn't really matter if it works reliably. If thieves think it sometimes works, they will try it regularly because it costs them nothing.
CharlieParkour@reddit
So dude dropped his wallet while he was leveraging that lock?
theatrenearyou@reddit
seems like. and his cohort took it and didnt look back
theatrenearyou@reddit
might have been a phone. I couldnt tell. it's weird youre not safe parking your bike in front of a lit up store in a neighborhood of multi million dollar houses
VoltasPigPile@reddit
A cable lock is just a sign that says "FREE BIKE!"
Before you buy a lock, search for that model on youtube and find out how easy it is to get it open without keys.
When you lock your bike to something, think about how hard it would be to cut that something with an angle grinder. You could have a really nice lock and they could just cut the post you locked it to. A thief would gladly buy a brand new angle grinder knowing they can make the money it cost back by selling an expensive ebike.
MrScribblesChess@reddit
I've wondered about this. Where do people lock their bikes on the street then, when all that's available is sign posts and bike racks that could be cut with an angle grinder?
I do my darnedest not to have to lock it on the street for long, not to leave it out of site etc, but sometimes it's unavoidable. So what do I lock it to when I have to leave it on the street?
grislyfind@reddit
Make it look like an old bike with chipped paint and random decals
stulifer@reddit
This. I bought some AliExpress made in china bike locks that were just pulled apart or snipped. Thankfully I had some kryptonite locks attached as well.
FaithLessRooster@reddit
Good thing the thief returned the lock to where the bike was to let the owner know their bike was stolen. That's responsible thievery.
daking999@reddit
I hope there is a circle of hell for bike thieves.
whlthingofcandybeans@reddit
I would like to see them skinned alive.
truthwatchr@reddit
It’s fake.

Not sure what makes you think it's fake but I'd be happy to talk you through any uncertainty to help you understand this is genuine, just very rare footage from the hundreds of bike thefts that happen in Cambridge UK every year.
truthwatchr@reddit
It’s definitely not an Abus lock. It would break that bike first. It takes an industrial strength hydraulic system to pop an Abus lock. We’re talking over 5,000 psi. Two deadbeat Zoomers are not even coming close to that. Maybe 300 deadbeat Zoomers working together. This is a cheeeeeeaaaap lock.
PGH521@reddit
I use a lite lock which is braided wire flat like a belt and covered in Kevlar and a disc brake lock bc it’s cheap bt it makes the bike unusable and it screams if you move the bike
chuckwolf@reddit
the fact my bike weighs \~100 lbs. petty much prevents this, they aren't picking that bitch up and twisting it on a bike rack LOL
jb0nez95@reddit
People pick up motorcycles and place them into the bed of pickup trucks to steal them. Your 100 pound bike weighs far less. I wouldn't be over confident if I were you.
dbcooper4@reddit
You’ve got to pick up a 100lb bike and then apply enough torque to snap a u-lock.
jb0nez95@reddit
With two people that's 50 pounds each. Roughly 25kg for you Brits. That's not much weight at all for a grown man.
dbcooper4@reddit
Pick it up and twist with enough force to snap the u-lock. Out of shape drug addicts need not apply.
jackson214@reddit
You seem really married to this idea that ebikes are too heavy for thieves to pull off this type of attack.
There are people out there putting entire 400+ lbs motorcycles in the bed of a pick-up truck.
It is silly to insist that thieves are incapable of doing this with much lighter ebikes.
dbcooper4@reddit
I don’t know why it’s so hard to understand. It’s not enough to be able to lift the bike up. You have to do that and at the same time apply enough force to snap a u-lock.
AfraidofReplies@reddit
It doesn't take that much force with the attack shown in the video. The bike acts as a lever, which means only a small amount of force needs to be put on the bike for the bike to put a lot of force on the lock. 100lbs really isn't that heavy, especially for two people. They don't even need to hold the weight the whole time. They can rest the bike on the rack while they twist. Finally, where I'm from a known technique the more serious bike thieves use is to have a bunch of guys roll up in a pick up truck, and then for them to lift up the whole rack with the bikes on it, put it in the bed of the truck, and then drive away so they can cut the bikes off in privacy. Pretty sure lifting a rack with a half dozen bikes on it into a truck is a lot harder than lifting one bike and using it to twist a lock.
jackson214@reddit
Good lord, if you need to convince yourself that two modestly strong adults are unable to lift 50 lbs each and then apply some lateral force to snap a cheap U-lock like this, just so you can feel good about how secure your bike is, then I'll leave you to it.
dbcooper4@reddit
I don’t where your argument turned into a straw man of me advocating for locking your bike up using a cheap lock. A cheap u-lock can be defeated many easier ways than man handling a 100 pound bike. Criminals aren’t known for training at Cross Fit.
onlyonebread@reddit
How the fuck do you pick up a motorcycle
Is Hafthor Bjornsson out here stealing bikes
idnvotewaifucontent@reddit
Three average guys can definitely lift a 400-500 lb motorcycle up to waist height with minimal diffuclty. Seen it done to load them for transport at a local shop.

Bubbly-Pirate-3311@reddit
Nope not a chance in hell with my hyperscorpion either. No good grab points on that heavy bitch either
showmethenoods@reddit
If someone really wants to steal your bike, they will find a way. Your job is to make it as difficult as possible/inconvenient for them as possible.
AfraidofReplies@reddit
Also, make yours look less appealing to steal than other nearby bikes. That can mean stickering/painting your frame, but it can also mean finding a nice bike with a cheap lock and locking up near that. It doesn't work everywhere, but it's the approach I took on campus or biking downtown.
stormdelta@reddit
Making your bike less attractive to steal helps too. I intentionally make mine "uglier".
RequiemSharks@reddit
Looks funny to me. Wouldn't this destroy the bike frame?
MeanAvocada@reddit
If you ever catch your thief, remember these videos and punish him for all the stolen bikes in the world. It will be a wonderful feeling that is hard to replace in life.
zacmobile@reddit
I'd like lockpickinglawyer to try this.

Maybe McNallyOfficial
SR115@reddit
nah hes too busy going after that specific lock company that fucked with his wife. McNally is pissed.
Cheomesh@reddit

SR115@reddit
McNally does sassy lock openings, Proven Industries makes shitty locks. They didnt appreciate him showing how shitty their locks are. Proven then proceeded to harass him, he didnt budge, so they started harassing his wife. Theyre also suing him. He's going scorched earth on their products. maybe best not to piss off a dude who can throw a triangle square for headshots.
Platinumdogshit@reddit
Also, he is like publishing videos of him picking those locks like they're nothing, which is disputing the manufacturer's claims to the court of public opinions as well as in actual court. If Im researching good locks I'm probably gonna see one of those videos and won't buy it because the business being unethical in suing McNally and because their product can be cheaply and easily defeated in the span of a tik tok.
hobskhan@reddit
He'll just hip thrust this lock apart.
purrkissesv@reddit
no bc if he can’t do it in 30 seconds then we know something shady’s up like how are they outpacing literal lockpick legends?? it’s giving inside job or alien tech lol. also the way they’re just casually working together like it’s a group project is wild. do u think they’ve done this before or were they just weirdly efficient first-timers??

2 kryptonite u locks and a heavy chain lock with fiber covering. Most of the time I just need one lock and I never leave the bike alone more than 10 minutes.
Fortunately I can take mine inside home and work. Highly recommend finding places that allow that. If not, I’d rather get a normal beat up bike and still lock it up well outside.

Educational_Ad_3922@reddit
This is why my ebike is 150lbs, uses a 15mm chain lock through the rear wheel, alarm, tamper cut off and key switch. It also helps to make it look janky af so its intimidating to mess with.

Its not theirs, so if it breaks during the act, they lost nothing... 😢
Me_lazy_cathermit@reddit

bornslyasafox@reddit
That's reasonable thinking though, if someone is out to steal a bike, there is a high chance they wouldn't be thinking rationally.

It takes 10sec to see if the quick hack works.
If they break five bikes and steal one that still a bike stolen in 60 seconds with less exposure than trying to cut it open with a loud ass angle grinder.
jonas328@reddit
They don't care about the frame. They can sell the parts. Also much "safer" to only sell parts than a complete bike that has been reported stolen.
stormdelta@reddit
This an excellent example of why you shouldn't use long U-locks, regardless of whether they're strong against cutting or not.
And the lock shown is awfully thin for a U-lock to boot.

feoranis26@reddit
The infuriatimg thing is that the "correct" method shown in the video isn't correct either!! If you lock your rear wheel as shown, you leave the frame completely unprotected! A thief can detach the rear wheel* and steal the rest of the bike in that way. What actually is the best way to lock your bike is to lock one of the frame tubes along with the rear wheel, prevents the bike from tipping over while othes are locking/unlocking bikes next to yours as well.
*In the case of a hub driven ebike this is less of an issue as the motor is integrated into the wheel so will probably make it take too long or not worth it to steal the rest, but still locking it properly is very easy and costs nothing.
vexingpresence@reddit
you need to look closer, the lock goes through the rear wheel AND frame in that picture.

Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
The dream in question:
MrrGrrGrr@reddit
Not sure how the rear triangle would keep from doing the same technique, they could have more leverage from the rear triangle than top tube when twisting. (I lock rear triangle)
dbcooper4@reddit
My interpretation is that the thieves know the seat tube will break in the process so they don’t bother trying.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
The seat tube won't break (actually with the seat inside, it is the strongest part of the frame). However, the wheel would be rendered un-rideable. One very important thing for these thieves is making a fast getaway.
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
The rear triangle will always be the weakest point in a fight between a rack of that shape, the lock and the bike frame. The rear triangle is SO weak that thieves will not even attempt this.
Oli99uk@reddit
They are using the stand and protecting the bike. Using the rear triangle closes off the space to do this
speculator100k@reddit
When locked to a rack of that shape, does it really matter if the lock goes across the top bar of the frame or the rear triangle? The thieves could've positioned the bike for rotation even if it had been originally locked down by the ground.
Is the idea that the wheel will get destroyed?
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
The rear triangle will always be the weakest point in a fight between a rack of that shape, the lock and the bike frame. The rear triangle is SO weak that thieves will not even attempt this.
Furthermore, locking through the rear triangle makes it more difficult and slower to manoeuvre the bike on the rack like shown in the video.
truthwatchr@reddit
It’s fake. Also a very cheap lock.
Oli99uk@reddit
The top tube gave them space to use the stand. Through wheel and chainstays close off a lot of the space inside the U-lock
Notice-Horror@reddit
That’s no abus
Reagent_Tests_UK@reddit
It's an Abus 402. It has a 11mm shackle, but it has broken at the point which engages with the lock, which is around 7mm.
Abus didn't anticipate this type of attack so the 11mm part is what a person with an angle grinder attacks, but this very thin part is where the force gets concentrated in this "twisting attack"

Life in a city is expensive in many ways.
The other rats want your cheese.
OurHouse20@reddit
Goddamned thieves will never stop.
frieds0ul@reddit
Wtf it snapped like if it was a plastick lock
Shouldadipped@reddit
Getting a new and another lock..
Walfy07@reddit
leverage is a powerful drug, ask the egyptians
potgrab@reddit
That's just a kryptonite lock. You can open those fuckers with a bic pen.
_D3Ath_Stroke_@reddit
I hate thieves and wish upon them the harshest punishment that can be made. For one i agree with Saudi law regarding theft
Hindsight001@reddit
In America I call stuff like this redneck ingenuity. People will never understand but rednecks will always figure out how to fix, break, or redo a problem. They'll learn physics without learning physics, engineering with out any engineers.
Fun_Park_69@reddit
Great advice, thanks for posting.
Hungryforflavor@reddit
Dont try that with a carbon bike !
truthwatchr@reddit
Or a real Abus lock. This is Fake.
MRoss279@reddit
I wish people would contribute to society instead of stealing someone's bike. How do people like this face themselves?
Beneficial-Area2386@reddit
Not giving a crap is a big part of their makeup. To those jackasses this is 'free enterprise'.
Theory_Crafted@reddit
That's a very weak lock and Abus locks are famously weak to torsion attacks.
These thief's are highly experienced.
truthwatchr@reddit
It’s fake.
slyzik@reddit
It.does not look like abus lock.
mrgrimm916@reddit
This is why you always double or triple lock your bike, fuck it, quadruple that shit. The best defense against bike theft is to make it more work than it's worth.
DoeBites@reddit
Yup, the best locking strategy is “the juice ain’t worth the squeeze”
chessset5@reddit
That is smart.
truthwatchr@reddit
This is a very cheap lock not an Abus The bike frame would have broke in half before one of those locks did.
Inkblot7001@reddit
So... a poor quality lock (not one of Abus good locks), used in a lazy and vulnerable way. {slaps forehead}
When I go out and see what and how people lock their bikes, this kind of video is not surprising.
I suppose I should be thankful people leave their bikes like this, as the c*nts go for their bikes and not mine, but sadly leaving bikes like this just encourages the scumbags more.
parrotia78@reddit
Please pleez let me once in life show up while they're trying to steal my shart.
Number4combo@reddit
Always could break U locks like that, they just risk damaging the frame as the other pics show. The thief doesn't care unless it can't be ridden away.
Leverage. Same thing when ppl used 2x4's on the O/lollypop rings on the city here and making off with the bike.
Blitqz21l@reddit
slight correction, the thief doesn't care. He only cares that he doesn't get caught. If the bike doesn't work, it doesn't work, ditch it, look for another one. If they break the bike, they break the bike, it's not a big deal to them.
El_Guap@reddit
In the US Texas , these people probably would’ve been shot
SmartAd2669@reddit
Good
super_mondia@reddit
These dumbasses are going to destroy a lot of bike frames this way.
1320Fastback@reddit
I have a an angle grinder in my shop and dab in metal work here and there. There is not lock or chain that couldn't be cut in 30 seconds or so that you would buy.
dbcooper4@reddit
Plenty of videos testing this theory out. If you’re using battery powered angle grinder the best locks are not easily defeated. They require cutting wheel and even battery changes to get through.
JJsNotOkay@reddit
hiplok d1000
Tyrannosaurusblanch@reddit
I’m putting 2 lockers on my bike now.
Thanks for the video. I would never have thought of that way of breaking a lock.
LeseMajeste_1037@reddit
Bike thieves: truly the lowest life form there is.
CharlieParkour@reddit
I mean, there are literal pimps renting out sex slaves...
Tyrannosaurusblanch@reddit
Or a President with 34 convictions (that’s he hasn’t gotten away with) and alledged pedo.
But I agree bike thieves are scum.
Sudden_Ad_2458@reddit
While on nicer ebikes, makes no sense

Damnnnn, I'm always locking through the triangle now. Or at least using 2 unlocks in the same spot 💀
