Anyone have any experience with the keltec su-16?

Been looking for a traditional style stock rifle thats in 5.56 and takes AR mags and its very few and far between. I have a AR and i thought about getting a SCR lower and its way to expensive just for the lower.
The mini 14 is way too expensive and I've talked to several owners that say you need to put more money into it just for it to work properly and be as accurate as standard AR's.
So when i saw the keltec su-16 for the price and its ability to take AR mags, traditional style stock my ears perked up.
The only issue is, I see reviews saying its better as a camping gun or range toy but anything other then that its not worth it.

I have the shorter version (PLR-16). Decent accuracy, reliability is good if lubricated properly, bolt hold open and charging handle are more awkward to get to. Almost no aftermarket offerings or parts other than handguards or stock adapters.

I love the look of the mini14 but I think they Are way overpriced 1k+

I own both a SU-16 and a Mini-14. With the SU-16 you definitely get what you pay for and that's coming from a Kel-Tec fan. A Mini-14 is absolutely not overpriced in comparison.

Well your only real choices are buy used or try a SU-16, FM Ranch Rifle, or Fightlight SCR

I have a ranch rifle. Bolt action in 5.56 that takes AR mags but idk if that could be used as a all purpose rifle. Its shorter then most bolt actions which makes it light and not bad indoors but still.

does it have to be semi auto? I know of several models of 556/223 bolt action rifles if you want some!

Would prefer semi auto. I have the ranch rifle. A bolt action in 5.56 that takes AR mags and its great, I just dont know if it suits the general all purpose rifle aspect

If you want the accuracy potential of an AR you have to get an AR lower.
Foxtrot Mike, CMMG, and SIG make proprietary-ish versions of the SCR, but I don't think any of them are cheaper.
I wouldn't larp with an su16, the plastic accessories are certainly less durable, but it's fine for any realistic civilian use.

No larping, just a general all purpose use rifle. I have a AR and like the platform but I just prefer traditional style rifles

I’ve handled one, but not shot one. It’s very plasticy, almost airsoft like. The “bipod” is not very good. But I’ve heard that it’s ok overall
