Moving from seattle to dallas

Hi all! I'm a 28-year-old single Indian woman, moving to Dallas after spending the last 4 years in Seattle. I’m relocating for a new high-paying senior role at a finance company in plano, and while I’m excited about the opportunity, I’m a bit anxious about rebuilding my social life in a new city.
I’d love recommendations for communities or apartment complexes that are not too far from Plano, but still offer a vibrant, city-like vibe ideally with people in their late 20s to early 30s and access to great athletic clubs or fitness communities.
This transition has been a bit overwhelming, so any advice or suggestions would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've lived in Plano for over 25 years now. It is a suburban city, but growing into an urban-suburban town. I love the Plano, Frisco area—one of the best places to raise a family. However, there is still plenty to do for a single person, depending on your interests there is enough in the northern suburbs that we rarely even drive down to Dallas.
Not trying to be rude, but leave Seattle in Seattle and embrace the new place. Comparing one city to another will always leave you unsatisfied. I've been to Seattle for vacation and loved it. Plano and the overall DFW area are nothing like Seattle, not to mention the weather. If you're into food, you won't be disappointed here. From the perspective of a variety of cuisine, the DFW is up there with any of the big cities.
You might miss out on a good cup of coffee :)

Also I’m working in an IT consultancy company

DFW is the New Dehli of America. Both in Corporate America and zipcodes. You will fit in perfectly professionally and personally.
Bigj989@reddit
It is much more like South India than New Delhi.
sharkieshadooontt@reddit
Whats the difference
Bigj989@reddit
New Delhi is in North India. Almost all Indians in the Dallas suburbs are South Indians. The South Indians are racist toward the North Indians.
Tito_SDobleP@reddit
Are you coming to Chase by any chance ?
Pleasant-Day-1199@reddit (OP)
yes!!!
Tito_SDobleP@reddit
Lol, there’s a lot of Indians in the Plano campus. You should be good!
RawrRawr83@reddit
Why does she need to be around Indians?
MutedTechnology8644@reddit
She may or may not. But mentioned it in her OP.
RawrRawr83@reddit
She mentioned she’s Indian not that has to socialize only with Indians
Tito_SDobleP@reddit
Because they are part of her culture and she will be around them
Nilla22@reddit
Def look at legacy west. It’s right by the campus. My husband Works for chase and a lot of his young coworkers live there.
inclinedscorpio@reddit
Checkout Villas apartments at West Plano. Safe area, homely vibes.
DueSavings45@reddit
Addison might be worth looking at!
Lindaloister@reddit
I second the Addison Circle area. There are many apt options. The whole area is very walkable with parks/green spaces, lots of shops, dining options, bars, along with exercise studios and the like. Very dog friendly and tons of activities in Addison Circle like art, pop up yoga, etc. along with city activities like Kaboomtown (one of the largest fireworks celebrations in the country).

Welcome to Plano. The legacy east and west are pretty good areas. We are moving to Seattle in a couple of weeks!
cabej23@reddit
Check out Sixes.

Cityline Richardson
Viper_ACR@reddit
OP this may be a decent idea if you work downtown and dont want to drive- the DART is right there and is a straight shot downtown
Viper_ACR@reddit
100% you need a car. Also there's a lot of Indians in Plano.
ninjajoey05@reddit
Do you own a car?
Agreeable_Gap_1641@reddit
Addison and The Colony seem to have more of the nightlife aspect for people your age. But if you value short commute there are apartments in the legacy west area and there’s a set up there that could give you a bit more of a city feel. But its suburbs this way so nothing will feel truly urban.
iruvar@reddit
What was the point of mentioning the high-paying role?
Teach1720@reddit
I took it as a way of communicating the type of rent she was willing to pay, in obviously looking for places to live and hang out. Not bragging.
HisSnowbunny@reddit
And what you’re doing is whining. Apparently, she was implying her budget without bragging. She also said she was Indian, which means English is not her native language. Have some humility and respect or leave the community.

Plano = Issaquah here, if that helps
Uptown would be great or Greenville area.
nurdyguy@reddit
My wife and I moved here from Seattle in '09. Plano is very much a suburb and not at all like Belltown. The closest thing I could think around here would be maybe the Uptown area in Dallas. But that won't be very close to your job going to put you closer to the Granite Park area (north west Plano, near Tollway/121 freeway intersection).
Downtown Plano is fun and has lots of shops and restaurants with apartments above them. CityLine in Richardson might be another good option. Or, as others have mentioned, near Legacy West. Those will all be pretty suburban feeling but with a small city-like feel in the middle.
_victorious_secret_@reddit
I moved from Seattle a few years ago and like Legacy west. Welcome to Texas! Get ready to trade in your puffer coat for shorts and bug spray 😁
No_Lingonberry_1165@reddit
maybe start out by not BRAGGING about your high paying job. smh
HisSnowbunny@reddit
Maybe go get a job and you won’t be so offended.

Addison. Way too young for Frisco/West Plano.
sran469@reddit
First off, welcome!!!! Plano is a true suburb in every sense. So city like vibe wasn't a thing in Plano. Enter Legacy west and shops of legacy, which has a small pseudo but lively live, shop and work community. Austin Ranch, Frisco Star and other smaller similar communities are around. For true city vibe, there are several options South, but commute to Plano could be a challenge.
lala160@reddit
Addison is lovely and safe. Addison circle has lots of events. As a resident of the town you pay $10 once to have unlimited access to the athletic club. You’re central enough you can do pottery class at Brookhaven recreationally or go meet up at half price’s flagship author speakers.
lightning_Mcking29@reddit
Try legacy west. It will be good.. but I moved out of plano as most of the apartments are old and maintenance are below par.
the_ugh_life@reddit
I made the same transition from Seattle to DFW a few years back, also in a similar boat- the suburbs here are more lively than Seattle suburbs but you won’t find that city vibe here given how things are set up.
If you’re looking for a starter apartment- consider check out the area behind the Star in Frisco, I started there and really like it as it was a bit quieter than the Legacy apartment area and still close to action.
Good luck!
FunNeedleworker7726@reddit
Where in Plano is your job? If on the east side, I'd probably be looking at downtown Plano or Cityline in Richardson. Both have a semi-urban feel with walkable bars/restaurants and quick and easy to shoot down to Knox/Henderson or Greenville for weekends while keeping your commute very short. If on the west side, I'd probably add in looking at Addison. Not too bad of a commute, there's a decent nightlife scene in the area and good midpoint between West Plano and downtown.
shineOmark@reddit
Check out Lexington Ranch…this a new apartment complex…very close to a lot of Indian amenities.
PhotoGuyOC_DFW@reddit
Richardson and the City Line neighborhood sounds very close to what you’re looking for.
J2theLC@reddit
As others have stated, concentrate on areas surrounding legacy west, grandscape, and arbor hills nature preserve. All depends on your budget but these are centrally located areas that fits your criteria.
inkydeeps@reddit
Can I ask where you lived and were happy in Seattle? I moved here from Seattle. I think everything in Plano is going to be way too suburban unless you were living in the burbs in Seattle.
Pleasant-Day-1199@reddit (OP)
Thats good to know! how has your move been so far ? I live in Belltown, right in the heart of the action with bars and cafés just steps away.
inkydeeps@reddit
I lived in SLU. So we were neighbors. 👋
The most urban in Plano is around Legacy West, but to me it still feels very suburban shopping mall feel. Kind of like Bellevue.
Consider Uptown in Dallas if you can handle the commute up to Plano would my advice to match Belltown.
To answer your question about the move, it has positive & negative. Pros: COL & especially housing are far cheaper here. Larger city so many more obscure restaurants & cultures abound. The negative for me: lack of any real hiking & the heat. I still miss Seattle.
Ineffable2024@reddit
Cortland West Plano is likely near where you work and has a huge Indian community, a lot of which is young families. It's a paradise for kids, basically. I also see a lot of younger Indian men playing cricket, and people of both sexes going for walks or hanging out, playing badminton, and so on. I don't know if that's the vibe you're going for but you might check it out.
acaii@reddit
Addison, Austin Ranch
Swirls109@reddit
I think another poster mentioned some good spots, but you should temper your expectations between big city life and what Dallas suburbs offer. Dallas itself is a completely different beast than other metros. It's much more of a driving society and pockets of culture rather than an expensive city. It's still fun, but very different.
MutedTechnology8644@reddit
As I’m sure you may know already, Plano, as well as Frisco to the north, has a large south Asian and Indian population. As far as location, you should look in the area of legacy and legacy West, the west side of Plano along the north Dallas tollway corridor is newer, and has upscale and vibrant shopping areas. Legacy West has outdoor shopping and restaurants, including fitness clubs, with apartments built within the community so you can walk.
Pleasant-Day-1199@reddit (OP)
Thankyou! i will check it out
