what's there to review? its ewaste that shouldve been named 5030 and sold as a low profile display card
pmth@reddit
Way too powerful for a 30 series. 5040 for $189 and we’re looking at a beastly budget option with a reasonable name.
Gloriathewitch@reddit
power is relative to the generation, just because the 5050 is much more powerful than the 1030 (which is like 6 years old) doesnt mean it shouldnt be in that class. compare 1080 to 5080, its a gargantuan difference.
pmth@reddit
The 1030 is half of a 1050, 1630 is 2/3 of a 1650
ResponsibleJudge3172@reddit
Based on what?
Gloriathewitch@reddit
the fact its lower than a 4060? for many that's considered as low as you can go for modern titles, at 1080p. remember this is a triple A card by the biggest company in the world for such hardware.
the fact you can buy an obsolete card on day 1 at RRP is frankly insane
seatux@reddit
I could use more up to date stuff, I heard the GT1030 is going to legacy drivers soon enough and the usual suspect RX550 already is legacy.
Standislav@reddit
I mean, there is the GTX 1630 but again that means buying a GTX 1630 which isn't at all worth the price since you can basically get a intel arc A580 for about the same price (atleast here in Czechia, I dunno how the prices are of intel cards rn in the US) so ig an intel arc a310 or a380 could to the job since they are both cheaper and more powerful than a 1630. But I get it that a lot of people don't like using Intel's Alchemist series so in that case ig something like a rx 6400 could do the job.
JonWood007@reddit
Almost like they don't want people to see how bad 8 gb vram is in 2025...
ThaRippa@reddit
It is okay for a low end card like that. That’s 1050 2GB territory. Can’t do everything, but will run most games.
Still shit value, still screwing over uninformed buyers. But it is not too little VRAM for the GPU it has.
JonWood007@reddit
I wouldn't say it's quite as bad as 2 gb with pascal, more 2 gb with maxwell.
flushfire@reddit
Meh. Nearly all games will still have no issues at 1080p, just need to lower settings. Would've been fine at $200 really.
JonWood007@reddit
Yeah but 8 GB today is what 4 GB was when 8 GB came out. I mean it does the job but it's not great. Should really be sub $200 all things considered. It's also not futureproof at all. But yes, you can run games. But youre talking low-medium when typically these segments are talking medium to high.
Moscato359@reddit
Fun fact
If the 250$ 6gb 1060 was sold today, after inflation, it would be 337$
And the 200$ 1060 3gb?
Would be 260$
This is much closer in equivalence to the 1060 3g, and it has 8/3rds as much ram
kikimaru024@reddit (OP)
TBH the only question is if 5050 clearly beats 4060.
JonWood007@reddit
Doesnt the one videocardz link show it doesn't?
kikimaru024@reddit (OP)
Might be game/driver-dependant; you can't say for certain until full reviews are out.
CoUsT@reddit
No reviews, no bad PR.
Just shadow launch the product.
Big brain.
Odd-Onion-6776@reddit
that's all you need to know
Brorim@reddit
a 12gb sff 5050 ti lp is really what is needed
SirMaster@reddit
Seems pretty simple. If there are no reviews then nobody should buy it until there are reviews.
RealOxygen@reddit
If an uninformed buyer tried to do their due diligence and find a review but they can't because the trillion dollar company has made an active effort to prevent that, is it really all on them?
SirMaster@reddit
Yes, if they don’t see a review then they shouldn’t spend their money on an unknown. How is that a difficult or controversial decision to make? Don’t spend your money on something you don’t know about and can’t verify. That’s practically common sense.
RealOxygen@reddit
Two things can be true at the same time; customers should strive to be informed, and megacorporations should not go far out of their way to prevent media outlets creating information the customer could inform themselves with.
g-nice4liief@reddit
Your second part is only true if it does not interfere with the spirit of the business. Mainly, creating a profit.
In the Netherlands for example, you could be fined or they can close out your bussiness as our tax authority stands above the law, which is quite the opposite of how it should be. The false employment case is on in which they demonstrated to be above the law.
anival024@reddit
Seems pretty simple. If people keep buying these without day 1 reviews, then Nvidia shouldn't bother giving review samples to anyone.
Sadly, that will be Jensen's takeaway.
namur17056@reddit
The cult of nvidia will defend this to the hills
ResponsibleJudge3172@reddit
There are 3 cults in these forums
ImBoredToo@reddit
The year is 2038. The unix time apocalypse is upon us. Nvidia is still releasing GPUs with 8 GB of vram
BarKnight@reddit
I mean AMD has an 8GB card for $50 more than this, so
esmifra@reddit
And Nvidia has 8GB card that is 120$ more than this. I don't see your point? Is it what about AMD? Cause people also complained about the low vram on that one as well
ResponsibleJudge3172@reddit
That the comment as usual is one sided?
OrangeKefir@reddit
Here's your review:
It's a piece of shit. Comment rate and subscribe.pls.
kuddlesworth9419@reddit
I'm fine with a 5050 having 8GB of VRAM if the price is reasonable.
Assaulter@reddit
Nobody that watches reviews or has any clue would ever buy this anyways, theyre just gonna be 20-30 mins of memes and easy dunks, the customers for these gpus are little timmy and grandparents who decide to buy a computer so they go to the local shop and look at the cheapest prebuilts, which will all feature this gpu at the lowest price points
Vb_33@reddit
So the card is slated to launch in the second half of July but some Chinese retailers said fuck it were selling now, and this is somehow a problem? If people want to buy early let them it's their choice specially in a place where retailers don't respect manufacturer launch dates.
kikimaru024@reddit (OP)
From the article:
That's a "launch".
