Do you mind if I add serotonin and aspirin to that?
Caffeine for energy, serotonin for happiness, aspirin for pain relief.
Cyagog@reddit
Serotonin can’t be taken orally to affect mood because it doesn’t cross the blood–brain barrier and is broken down in the digestive system before it can reach the brain. Drinking it would have no impact on mental health and could cause unwanted side effects in the body. Like digestive issues or blood pressure changes. In short, it wouldn’t work and might even be harmful. Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors as used in anti depressants of course would be a different story, but also kill lots of people.
gadget850@reddit
There are those of us with slippery adenosine receptors where caffeine has no invigorating effects.
There are many with ADHD where caffeine has an enervating effect and can make them drowsy.
Average_Bob_Semple@reddit
Yeah, but there are many more who don't have that, and where that doesn't happen
Cyagog@reddit
What‘s your point? What they were saying is, there‘s a significant amount of people for whom adding caffeine to the water supply would be bad for them. Hence its a bad idea. Your statement doesn‘t change that. Like, when someone proposes to add peanuts to all school lunches, because they have amazing nutritional value, and someone points out that this would be harmful to people with peanut allergies, stating that the majority wouldn‘t suffer is not a reasonable argument.

As a longtime coffee drinker who quit all caffeine three years ago, I can honestly say I’m much more productive, clear-headed, and happier without it. The common belief that caffeine boosts productivity often comes from the fact that it disrupts your sleep quality. Poor sleep then makes you rely on coffee just to feel awake, creating a never-ending cycle. Breaking free from caffeine has been a game-changer for my focus and overall well-being.
smallpenis-bigheart@reddit
It’s not black and white. A standard coffee or two before 10-11am isn’t gonna fuck up your sleep schedule as it’s half life is 3-7 hours. Just like everything, moderation is key.
Kvsav57@reddit
That’s essentially why coffee became the drink of America instead of tea. Factory owners figured out that caffeinated workers were more productive so they started providing free coffee in break rooms.
Xandara2@reddit
Wouldn't change anything for me since caffeine has barely any impact on me but a lot of people would get messed up sleep schedules because of this. And probably no higher productivity because of it.
falconx89@reddit
Sleep is important to.
huuaaang@reddit
I think most people are already pretty immune to caffeine already. I don't think it would change anything.
herejusttoannoyyou@reddit
By immune do you mean addicted?
huuaaang@reddit
I guess. Just a high tolerance, really.
lamppb13@reddit
Because they are addicted. That's why they have a high tolerance, lol
huuaaang@reddit
Why harp on this point? You can also have a high tolerance to a chemical without being addicted.
lamppb13@reddit
We're harping on this point because when you say "most people are pretty immune to it" as if most people just pop out of the womb immune to the effects of caffeine, that's just incorrect. People aren't just naturally immune to caffeine. They are addicted, so they don't feel the effects they want to feel, while still experiencing the harmful aspects of caffeine.
Basically, you are implying people are just naturally highly tolerant of caffeine when that's just an asinine statement to make.
huuaaang@reddit
I’m not responsible for your stawnen.
Jaymac720@reddit
That’ll kill a lot of people
GroundThing@reddit
But it would also help a lot of people get to work on time, so it's impossible to say if it's bad or not.
OptimismNeeded@reddit
Who have kids to at have enough energy as it is
Optimal-Rub-2575@reddit
Yeah drugging the populous without their consent is a great idea. No even mentioning that caffeine in the water supply means that children and those who have over sensitivity of allergies to it will also be exposed not to mention that caffeine doesn’t substantially raise productivity anyway.
Warrangota@reddit
Are we at /r/crazyideas or what? This is absolutely crazy, so a perfect fit.
lamppb13@reddit
Isn't part of the point of the sub for people to come and critique the crazy ideas? That's what the commenter did.
Normal-Seal@reddit
I’m super sensitive to caffeine. I like having a cup of coffee in the morning, but anything after noon and I’m not sleeping well, and then I wake up the next day feeling extremely groggy. So this would absolutely torpedo my productivity.
kogohar@reddit
Add multivitamin supplements. No more Vitamin A deficiencies.
doke_smoper@reddit
Methify it. Production would go up 300%. For awhile.
LairdPeon@reddit
Copper wire becomes extinct.
Blocked-Author@reddit
Yeah why stop at caffeine?
Siphix108@reddit
Caffeine doses in your tap in the morning...Keep your alarm on 😀
shaunnotthesheep@reddit
Caaaaaaarl, that kills people!!

It might be more productive for a day or two, but then you'd be dealing with the effects of all that lost sleep.

Brawndo! The Thirst Mutilator! It’s got what plants crave.
Certain-Wrongdoer-16@reddit
ah yes but toddlers with even sugar are a fucking nightmare
CptDomax@reddit
I stopped caffeine more than a month ago, I have more energy and more mental clarity than ever.
AstroWolf11@reddit
Fuck that I don’t want caffeine to keep me up all day, considering tap water is about all I drink. I don’t want any caffeine at all
SizeRepresentative@reddit
😂😂😂😂 100% agree
