At anchor in Georgian Bay...
napalminmorning@reddit (OP)
Highly recommend you sail Georgian Bay if you haven't already, turquoise water, hundreds of islands and bays with some big water and access to all the Great Lakes...
keel_up2@reddit
How is it generally for anchoring there? I would guess it's quite rocky, but is it manageable to tour around for a couple weeks without needing marinas?
Whole-Quick@reddit
Lots of bays with good mud or sand holding. It is 100% possible to avoid marinas in most parts of Georgian Bay. We've been able to cruise for 2 or 3 weeks with almost no marina stops. Only the odd times if we want to do laundry, meet friends, dine out, etc.

Brilliant, thanks for the info! We're starting to look for a new cruising ground for next summer and were always curious about Georgian Bay. Can you recommend any particular guidebooks or links?
Whole-Quick@reddit
The "Ports" guidebook for Georgian Bay is the only one to get.

Or your own favourite independent book seller.

Agree...no matter what the wind direction, there is a lee shore...just need to plan

Canada is a great country! I just wish our administration was more respectful. Hopefully things will get better in the near future.
KuriTokyo@reddit
Which administration? The Canadian one?
Hello from across the pond! (Japan)
SailorMDI@reddit
Hello! I meant the US administration is doing some awful things to Canada and other countries.
KuriTokyo@reddit
The US is doing terrible things to many countries, like bombing them.
You really have to stop that
SailorMDI@reddit
Remember, although Trump won the election, not everyone voted for him. I have only so much power in this country. I wish many of the things happening weren't happening.
brdynumnum@reddit
Is that the Tomb in the background, anchored at Hope Island?
napalminmorning@reddit (OP)
Yes, that Grant's Tomb but we're in Big Sand Bay off Christian Island

Happy Canada Day!
I'm spending it sailing down the coast t of Nova Scotia towards Halifax.
ColteesCatCouture@reddit
Its my birthday and sadly will not be sailing until next week! But I bid nice wind and calm seas to all my fellow sailors today!!
napalminmorning@reddit (OP)
Water is unusually cold for this time of year, so brace for impact

I'll be up on the Bruce later this week. Not bringing our boat, but will be enjoying the water nonetheless!

We were docked next to a boat from Canada this past weekend called "The Nautically Hip", which I thought was fun.
napalminmorning@reddit (OP)
That's a great name! Fair winds...
