midnight-dour@reddit
How in the hell did an animation cel from Robin Hood end up in a thrift store????? I would really like to know the story behind that because it is blowing my mind.
SamRaimisOldsDelta88@reddit
When people pass their family will often clean house and not look too closely at what they’re giving away.
scruffys-on-break@reddit
Disney sold thousands of reproduction cells in their theme parks. My sister has a few from Cinderella and The Little Mermaid. This is probably one of those reproductions
Canadatron@reddit
I have no idea how it got to the thrift shop. Pretty certain it was 3 dollars.
I did know what it was as soon as I saw it, mostly because it's not a "memorable" moment in the film, or anything remotely promotional. It's not terribly large, probably 5x8 overall inside the frame.
Definitely a cool little item for our generation.
jericho74@reddit
I think they used to sell these at special shops at Disney/MGM Studios in the 90’s.
Dicky_Penisburg@reddit
LoudAndCuddly@reddit
Cells are expensive, it’s not like it’s an original or anything from Disney studios from the first cut of the film or original animations. It’s a copy
FourHundredRabbits@reddit
I found a Who Framed Roger Rabbit animation cell at a Goodwill once. It was from the scene where Roger and Jessica are tied together dangling from the crane. My husband was thrilled.
Smolshy@reddit
They sell them at Disneyland and whatnot so someone probably just died and their stuff went to thrift.
LiliWenFach@reddit
I have one showing Maid Marion and the little boy rabbit when they first meet. My mum won it in a charity auction to raise money for her friend's terminally ill son. She bought it about 30 years ago. It's stamped as a genuine cell and came with a little certificate of authenticity. No idea how it came to be here in Wales.
Repulsive_Ocelot_738@reddit
I saw a few in a pawn shop in Vegas (no not THAT one)
Skerrydude@reddit

In this context, it would literally be part of an animation frame that they used in the movie.

There's so much you could mean with a statement like this.
Like, I'm over here thinking "yeah, this was probably one of the first animated movies we saw telling us the rich were bad and we should take their money, but to be fair, there were actually a lot of kids movies and shows subtly sending those signals around this time; think of Aladdin, how he steals a loaf of bread and gives it to the kids, or how in Oliver & Company the bad guy is a rich jerk and the good guy is a broke homeless guy."
Meanwhile, most people will correctly read this as a simple nostalgia post and insist I'm overthinking it, but hear me out....

ValancyNeverReadsit@reddit
The response. It might be because I have had a miscarriage but the response just makes me blindingly angry
FuckYouNotHappening@reddit
Me too, I despise the response.
I know there were a lot of younger people reading that web comic at the time, but I just don’t understand how people can be so callous and lack understanding.
Illustrious-Lead-960@reddit
From what (little) I understand, the original joke there was that people found a previously wacky comic’s sudden turn into tearjerking drama unconvincing and cringe. I think. You know, how our mockery at, “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!” wasn’t at the idea of an elderly woman getting hurt while all alone being inherently amusing.

In this (10+ year old) post, about halfway down just after they talk about Robin Hood - the movie, the author then makes the case for Robin Hood being pretty close to ground zero for the furry movement itself, in addition to the somewhat unspoken connection between Disney and furries in general.
Side note, for other Disney nerd types like myself, if you haven't ever read anything from this site, while now old and not updated much, you are in for a real treat.
