Which rimfire to buy? Ruger 10/22 or S&W M&P 15-22 or Bear Creek BC-201

Hey!
Looking to get a semi automatic .22 to pair with my Rossi Rio Bravo lever. Which would you choose? If it’s the Ruger, which version of the 10/22?
Thanks!

You left out the CZ 457 American which is arguably the best 22LR bolt rifle ever made. It's a reliable tack driver with a classic walnut stock. I put a suppressor (SiCo Sparrow) on mine and the enjoyment of whisper-quiet rimfire bolt gun goodness must be experienced to be truly appreciated.
If limited to the options on your list, I'd vote the Ruger because it's hard to go too wrong with a 10/22.

This may be a hot take that very few people will agree with but I actually rather strongly dislike semi-auto .22lr firearms. They tend to be very ammunition sensitive and fussy about what will make them run well. Some people get them and they run fine, others are malfunction drill trainers.
Were I building a collection, I'd look at a bolt action .22lr first.

the 10/22 is very reliable as long as youre not using something like CCI Quiet thats explicitly intended for manually operated guns.

It can be reliable. I have built several, worked on about a dozen, and shot them for years. I have absolutely seen out of the box 10/22s run like typewriters, I've seen more that were very elaborate single shot rifles.

I already have a lever action. I like the idea of having a semiautomatic

10/22 takedown is nice, but limits the stock selection and will cause zero to shift slightly if you shoot with a sling pulled tight.

Hard to go wrong with a 10/22. I really hate loading it though.
ss3walkman@reddit (OP)
What’s the trouble in loading it?
StressfulRiceball@reddit
It's just a huge pain in the ass. Single-feed so you can't just pop the rounds in, you gotta slide them in one at a time. Considering how fast you can shoot it, you'll be reloading A L O T.
They do make loaders but it took me forever to find one that actually works, and it's not THAT much faster - just easier.
sirbassist83@reddit
...it doesnt reload any different than any other box magazine? i genuinely dont know WTF youre talking about.
StressfulRiceball@reddit
Tell me you don't understand the difference between single feed and double feed magazine without telling me you don't understand magazine feeds
sirbassist83@reddit
most people put rounds in double feed mags one at a time, too. and theres like 4 oz of spring pressure in a 10/22 magazine, if youre struggling to load it thats a you problem.
StressfulRiceball@reddit
You mean to tell me there's no difference in effort for loading an AR mag vs a Glock mag?
After you load your 3rd 25-rounder your fingers are going to fucking hate you, because you're not fighting the pathetic spring pressure for a 22LR, you've grated your thumb on the narrow steel feed lips and fought against raw friction of each round clearing the lip.
Do you even own a 10/22? How many rounds have you shot?
sirbassist83@reddit
>You mean to tell me there's no difference in effort for loading an AR mag vs a Glock mag?
not enough to matter
>After you load your 3rd 25-rounder your fingers are going to fucking hate you, because you're not fighting the pathetic spring pressure for a 22LR, you've grated your thumb on the narrow steel feed lips and fought against raw friction of each round clearing the lip.
sounds like a technique problem, ive shot a 500 round box of 22 in a range session plenty of times. i use the 10 round mags exclusively, if that makes any difference.
>Do you even own a 10/22? How many rounds have you shot?
yes, many 10s of thousands.

"x sucks because of y"
"Well I don't care because I don't care about y"
Why even bother commenting lmfao just block me and move the fuck on
ss3walkman@reddit (OP)
What if I get the BX magazine for it? There’s 15 and 25 rounds, and I think 50 round drum.
Cdwollan@reddit
The BX mags are not really that reliable
StressfulRiceball@reddit
Those are what I'm talking about. 10-rounders will be better only because there's less rounds to load lmfao
Unless the drum has a crank style like Magpul's D-60/50, it's all gonna load the same.
ss3walkman@reddit (OP)
Damn! Well, a bunch of 10 rounders it is lmao!

if it gets bad enough, check this out:
https://www.speedbeez.com/product/speed-beez-lever-loader-compatible-with-ruger-bx25-magazines-22lr-magazine-loader-also-compatible-with-bx15/
They're very "ok". Slightly faster, noticeably less pain.
sirbassist83@reddit
i dont know what stressfulriceball is talking about, its not any more cumbersome to reload than any other box magazine.

Get something you can drop a super safety into :)

Which 10/22 is best really depends on you. If you want to tinker with it then get the cheapest you can find and go wild with upgrades or build one from the receiver up. If you want a really good one without working on it then get one of the competition models or a Bergara BXR.
