My b-road race car, 1988 Ford Escort CL 1.3

This is my b-road beater: a 1.3 Endura-E swapped '88 Escort with a huge carb, aggressive cam, homemade headers and a 2" stainless exhaust.

All bushings are changed, some to polyurethane, and the front brakes are from a 1.6 Escort.

Pretty rev-happy with great top-end power and light enough to throw into almost any corner.

My Dad had basically the same car but it was stock, and the 1.3 seemed so weak that the headlights would dim significantly if you turned the radio or heated rear window on. Alternator and battery were fine.

Car got stolen because it was absolutely mint with no rust, and the guy who stole it was half way to transforming it into a xr3i clone of sorts before stacking it into a wall after a brief police chase for failing to stop for speeding slightly. 45mph to a 40 and tried to make off from a Volvo T5. We got the full police report and a chance to go see the car at the impound.

Not really, but I'd like to get a RS bonnet with vents, as the intake is on the backside of the engine

I was thinking of getting a fiberglass bonnet skin and grafting vents into that, but that's a chore.

This is awesome - I love when people take a tiny car like this, and try to make it as refined as possible without changing what it is at its core. It's exactly what I'm trying to do with my TT, by keeping the smaller turbo and building up everything else around it for now.

I try my best to keep the soul of the car, I could have thrown in a 2.0 Zetec and made double the power easily, but it would have been heavier and way too much for a little Escort.

The Endura-E is the newest version of the stock Valencia, but with bigger ports and electronic ignition.
