I helped run a swim school for about 4 years (probably was the same Emler) and have taught babies to adults. In terms of progress you’ll see quite a large jump when you put your eyes in the water for the first time just from having correct body positioning. Think awkwardly doggy paddling with your head up vs just kicking with your eyes in to get an idea of body position. After that you’re not really going to see that same large “jump” in progress again. From there it’s smaller milestones from repetition and training your muscles to move in a way they aren’t used to. The first things I recommend as an adult learning is how to float on your back just to recenter yourself and how to stand up should you lose your footing. Keep practicing the more pool time you can get the better. Formal lessons help due to having someone to give you feedback but they aren’t required.

So many adults do not know how to swim, it’s quite common especially if you didn’t grown up around a pool, public swim or your parents worked a lot growing up. I commend OP for asking!

Best way is the way you teach your puppy! Someones gotta just throw you in the water and I promise youll figure it out!

That happened to my mom in childhood- she grew up to be a junior Olympian swimmer BUT the trauma still there 🥲

There is/was an indoor pool with training/lessons at Bachman Lake Dallas next to Love Field airport but the pool is closed (for repairs) more often than open anymore. I took a friend there for water physical rehab.

What a coincidence! I emailed YMCA White Rock today as they offer private lessons. I am 35 too and don’t know how to swim lol

What kind of swimming are you trying to achieve? Like just being able to move around in a home pool, swimming laps, snorkeling in an ocean?
PowerAggravating3339@reddit (OP)
I'm know nothing about swimming so I guess the basics

I think basic swimming is kinda like riding a bike, once you get over the fear (which is real) you will be surprised you couldn't do it before. Is there a gym in your area with a pool? Walk the shallow end with a float, then try kicking with a float. No kid starts off gracefully on a bike, but all learn pretty naturally. Same with swimming. You got this!

Well jokes on me. I don't know how to ride a bike 😕. Lol
