What’s it like working in healthcare right now?

I’m referring to mainly therapists and dieticians. I currently work as a creative but I’ve always been interested in health and I don’t really want to have to choose between or the other. Just want to hear what it’s like in these areas mainly?

Nhs Dietician here. For me it is horrendous. We all know the science in nutrition has moved miles since the 80s but the nhs refuse mostly to accept the new studies. So while i am working telling patients to avoid high carb diets to improve every single aspect of their lives, sometimes if they have other chronic illness, their treatment team will still be telling them oh high carb is fine. It is getting ridiculous as nothing ever seems to move forward.

UK fatty here. Thank you for this explanation. I was so confused to be told to eat five or six portions of starch a day when I'm high risk for type two diabetes

Apparently working as a therapist is quite stressful and high-pressure now. There’s been a sharply increasing demand for mental health services in the last few years, so there’ll be a lot of clients to handle.
I’ve noticed this when I had counsellors, I’d never have a steady regular one, as the turnover was so high. (Serving a quantity of clients was prioritised over quality and stability.)
There are also staff shortages, similar to what the health and care sectors are facing in general, so each therapist will have more on their plate.
“Long pressurised hours for mediocre pay” probably sums it up. On the flip side, it can be emotionally rewarding and give progression opportunities.
