Page 3 girls are still a thing?

I only recently learned that there were nude women in the newspaper in the UK. I'm in Canada. I was watching Coronation Street and saw someone mention it. Does this still happen?
TwpMun@reddit
Page 3 was a daily thing in one of the biggest tabloids The Sun from 1970 until 2015 when they stopped doing it, they were topless never fully nude.
UruquianLilac@reddit
Remember that up until 2004 it was legal for them to publish topless girls who were 16 it 17, which they absolutely did. And even on some occasions younger than that. People talk about the excesses of wokeness, but literally 20 years ago the whole nation could open their newspaper and Google the breasts of a 16 year old.
BigJDizzleMaNizzles@reddit
It was gross. I remember they literally had a countdown in one of the papers to when Emma Watson turned 16 so it was legal to lust after her.
UruquianLilac@reddit
Yup I remember that. Like literally the country as a whole looking at a 15 year old and out loud saying we are waiting for you to turn 16 so we can finally see those tits. It's INSANE that this was normal!
TwpMun@reddit
I don't know of anyone younger than 16, but there were a few that were 16
UruquianLilac@reddit
I was thinking of Sam Fox but I just checked and she was 16. I must have misremembered, or maybe the first lingerie photos her Mum sent were when she was 15, but I don't know if this is true or just a wrong memory I have.
prustage@reddit
One of the biggest mysteries in the UK is why people carried on buying that rag after 2015.
crucible@reddit
Or after 1989
chartupdate@reddit
I bought it daily from 1991 until 2012.
Flat-Delivery6987@reddit
Murdoch thanks you đ¤Ł
chartupdate@reddit
Technically I worked for him for many years. Never met him and he didn't tell me what to think
crucible@reddit
Your choice
Wretched_Colin@reddit
It is more like a comic than a newspaper.
The language used is entirely different to how people ordinarily interact, the topics they covered are of no consequence to anyone.
I guess itâs just escapism.
If escapism means reading at length about two adult soap stars ârompingâ in a Knightsbridge hotel.
Or else being surprised and shocked to find out that when a photographer lies on the ground to take a photo of a female singer getting out of a car, thereâs actually a pair of knickers and a fanny up her skirt.
UruquianLilac@reddit
I guess it was TikTok of the analogue era.
Mundane-Security-454@reddit
It's not escapism. These right-wingers are very stupid and have been brainwashed by Murdoch's demagogue.
SingerFirm1090@reddit
Yet "The Daily Star" makes "The Sun" look highbrow!
Erians_Chosen_777@reddit
The Daily Star is taking the piss all of the time. I find it entertaining in some sense
Louise-the-Peas@reddit
They probably have a pet budgie. đ
Key-Alternative5175@reddit
I used to read it till I saw sense
Up_The__Toffees@reddit
I used to read it till I saw tits
Key-Alternative5175@reddit
That made me chuckle cheers!
Samuelwankenobi_@reddit
It's a lot of the same people who watch GB News hope that helps
Wretched_Colin@reddit
They were often fully nude, but positioned in a way that you could see the side of their arse, as well as their boobs, but no full frontal or bum crack.
Doogerie@reddit
The sport i believe still dose page 3 and that is full frontal infarct last i checked they have full frontal nude girls all the way through.
RobertTheSpruce@reddit
Fellow page 3 connoisseur I see.
Wretched_Colin@reddit
I see myself as something of a renaissance man and enjoy the arts in multiple formats.
Opera, ballet, poetry, literature, page 3, music.
All art has its merit.
RobertTheSpruce@reddit
I always enjoyed the little bubble on the right where Hayley, 19, from Oxford gave her opinion on current events.
Electrical-Mammoth44@reddit
I also enjoyed that
Wretched_Colin@reddit
Or maybe a bit about her career.
Jane, 19, Essex is an estate agent. Sexy Jane says âwith the way sales are going, I hope to own my own home soonâ. With curves like that, weâre sure it will come sooner than she thinks.
Or some such rubbish
iamdecal@reddit
IIRC there was one of them whose whole niche was that she could twist sufficiently so you got a view of boobs and bum!
What a time to be alive!
EasternCut8716@reddit
I am not sure it is that society changed, which seems to be the presumption of the question. It is more that the internet arrived.
TwpMun@reddit
The internet definitely had a big impact, as well as making the 'lads mag' trend of the 90s completely disappear
SnooDonuts6494@reddit
Small correction: they were often fully nude, but not shown full-frontal.
ReniSquire@reddit
Always read the paper from back to front, then trying to guess who was the P3 girl of the day.
EruditeTarington@reddit
I used to love being in Florida reading a British newspaper at the age of 11/12/13 knowing page 3 was a thing
publiusnaso@reddit
Worse: Sometimes, nude, (or topless) women who were also children. As young as 16.
Doogerie@reddit
That changed in 1997 to18
klaushkee@reddit
Before it got such a bad name
Maleficent-Leek2943@reddit
I came here to say this. So fucking nasty. And itâs just bizarre to recall, thinking that Iâd be bored out of my mind at my grandparentsâ house, flipping through my uncleâs copy of the Sun for something to do, like "oh, thereâs an entire page devoted to some barely-legal girl with a lot of innuendo about her âcharmsâ⌠OK, onto some salacious story about a minor soap star and whatâs on telly tonight.â
Anyway, never buy the Sun, people. I canât stress that enough.
PurpleTeapotOfDoom@reddit
The young models would also have political views ascribed to them, often the only current affairs quote from a woman in the "newspaper".
Magnus_40@reddit
and in a couple of cases did a "Countdown to 16" series of photos of a 15 years old taking off clothes every day until her birthday when she was topless. Really really creepy
It is ironic that the red tops were front and centre in the torches-and-pitchforks paedo-hunt but, due to the change in the law, now have CP material in their archives.
Wretched_Colin@reddit
I remember one of those. To be fair I would have been 16 at the time, so it was quite exciting. We were in school and a different copy of The Sun was passed round each day.
A girl was 15 and across the five days before her 16th birthday, which was on a Friday, she took off various bits of clothing before being topless on the Friday.
Presumably the shoot had taken place in advance and they were taking topless pictures of a legal child.
As a father of a 15 year old girl now, I can hardly believe it, but it happened.
Magnus_40@reddit
When these happened I was a proper adult (legally, not in any meaningful way) and I found it just creepy.
But back then, the whole naughty schoolgirl, "my aren't you a big girl" Sid James-ey thing was still common.
Southernbeekeeper@reddit
I wonder why someone would downvote this. Its true.
kentguy2024@reddit
Yes itâs true (Sam fox was the 16 year old) and in todayâs view completely unacceptable but it wasnât made illegal until 2003. In the 80s, 90s and even 2000s in the work place things went on which wouldnât have happened now - when I first started work in the early 2000s I had many a woman pinch/grope my arse as I walked by.
ButteredNun@reddit
Page 3 went tits up
zeprfrew@reddit
Take my upvote.
eatseveryth1ng@reddit

Wait till you hear about The Daily Sport
Effective_Echidna438@reddit
Sunday sport was better, proper unbiased honest journalism too
Suave_Broccoli_3333@reddit
I used to love finding a discarded copies of the Sun on a train when I commuted, and always had a ball point pen or two ready to draw lovely new bikini tops and bottoms, polo necks or dresses on them. Then folding the newspaper up, ready to disappoint another reader.
zibafu@reddit
Ahh I remember being 12 and
Definitely not taking said newspaper to my room đ
Boldboy72@reddit
a lot of those Page 3 models became household names like Samantha Fox, Melinda Messenger and one called Linda who's last name eludes me
highrisedrifter@reddit
Don't forget Corinne Russell!
Allegedly. I think.
Someone told me.
elom44@reddit
Lusardi!
Figgzyvan@reddit
A 15 year sam fox but they waited til she was 16 before posting them.
EatingCoooolo@reddit
They went to Instagram and Onlyfans.
RobertTheSpruce@reddit
No, no, no. Some of them went on to be angry right wing twitter trolls (Leilani)
EatingCoooolo@reddit
The only page 3 I ever knew or remember is Jordan.
RobertTheSpruce@reddit
Unlucky.
EatingCoooolo@reddit
LOL I don't like being titillated!
fuzzeelogik@reddit
Interestingly, the crossword got easier as it became closer to Friday when it was literally like a primary school quiz compared to the crayons on Monday
Shannoonuns@reddit
Not really.
Like it used to be topless models but now they just kind put marginally sexy photo shoots of celebrities on page 3 instead.
Like it was like litterally just a rando girl with big boobs standing topless somewhere the majority of the time and occasionally something with a bit more production value if the model was a bigger name.
Now it's just a photo shoot of a celebrity they lifted from the Internet or very occasionally something the sun commissioned themselves. None of the women are topless anymore, like you might see some lingerie but thats about it these days.
WayGroundbreaking287@reddit
Not really but it's been a source of British humour for years.
Such as a line in porridge "get us a newspaper would you, the sun. Oh and could you get us something to read an'all."
schaweniiia@reddit
According to my father-in-law's daily Facebook post, yes, they are still a thing.
apeliott@reddit
I believe it all came to an end years ago.
I think the Sunday sport is the only one that still does them
Hamsternoir@reddit
The Sunday Sport is still going?
That was a real education when I was doing a paper round in the late 80s.
And I don't just mean important history lessons like the Lancaster bomber found on the moon.
wardyms@reddit
Yep, itâs stories regularly go viral as people arenât sure if theyâre real or not.
SnooDonuts6494@reddit
No nudes in major newspapers since 2015, no glam models since 2019.
Except in specialist papers, e.g. Sunday Sport.
Weekly_Beautiful_603@reddit
In my local newsagent, they received complaints that the papers were at the eye line of little kids, but they were legally obliged to display them. They just turned the ladies upside-down.
Usual_Cryptographer3@reddit
In mine they'd put a branded sheet on top to cover them somtimes. Anyway as a curious kid I was more interested in the porn mags on the top shelf
ByEthanFox@reddit
The weirdest part was that some of them were under 18.
I remember this because when I found out, I was \~14; I remember seeing a picture of a girl on Page-3 who I'm pretty sure it quoted as 16, think she was holding milk jugs against her breasts or wearing something milk-maid related.
And even at the time, as a hormonal 14/15yo, I still remembered thinking "surely that's not right?"
DivePotato@reddit
Are page three girls still a thing?
kentguy2024@reddit
No it isnât
sagima@reddit
Not really.
Iâd have preferred they just carried on with it but maybe focused slightly less on âlook how young we can get away withâ and more on âthisâll cheer you up this dreary morning- hereâs a lovely pair of titsâ and a similarly attired young man to cheer up the other half of the population.
I think I saw one once where she was posing with her dad which was a bit weird, not for being comfortable with family nudity around family but for the lustful expression he had on his face.
Less exploitation and more celebration of nudity /the human form I suppose would have been good but it was easier to just to end the whole thing but these days itâs much easier to find a picture of such a lady (Iâm told the internet is apparently full of tits) so itâs not as much of a selling point.
tgerz@reddit
Was it just the female form or did you get some peen also? I didn't grow up here so this is my first hearing of it.
Afraid-Priority-9700@reddit
Always just women (and sometimes girls who were photographed age 16 and 17). It was never about "celebrating the human form" or giving both sexes something fun to look at- it was always about exploiting young women, usually from working class backgrounds, and encouraging men to see us as objects.
kentguy2024@reddit
I gather youâve forgotten about the page seven fella then? Ok getting your tits out and showing a bare muscular chest is treated different but essentially are the same thing the only difference is a woman (unless your a chubby guy) is yours grows bigger.
PaintballProofMonk@reddit
Sadly no.
