I'm tired of the gym as well, years of doing the same shit completely alone. I wanna find a new sport, see what my shithole has to offer. Probably volleyball, even if they put me with teenagers

I change up exercises as much as I can with the few machines we've got but it's really hard to find novelty in it. Sometimes it's fun when you feel the muscles burn but often you don't even get that, it's just clock in, dump your energies in a few ritual motions and hope to get results
I recently went back to playing videogames, ranked Overwatch, and it's so fun to use your brain to improve, having short term gratification like a victory, playing with a team, I wanna try finding that in sports, see if it can hit similar

how long have you been lifting? whats your bench press? It was super tough for me to get into lifting, but now.. man its probably the best thing you can do for yourself. packing muscle is one thing, but the way it affects you mentally is incredible. I've become a completely different person though the divine saint barbell.

Must have been at least 6 years, started in hs, I've never done Max 1reps seems unnecessarily dangerous. My top weights were several years ago, when I was still doing bulks, I hated it. Something like 4x70kg. I stopped, lost weight, I just keep myself in shape now. It was fun at first but it gradually went duller

Pick up free weights and do compound movements. If you need structure, try a powerlifting program. You'll see more progress in 4 months than you did in 6 years of whatever you were doing.

hey gym guy, i have two pairs of 5lb, 15lb, and 25lb dumbbells - what type of stuff can I do at home or nearby park to start progressing? Any recommended guides/videos/programs?

I can really recommend bouldering if you have a gym around you, great workout and it doesn't get as repetitive because setters constantly make new problems. It's very addicting especially at the start when you improve really quickly and can climb higher and higher grades. It can also be pretty social if you want as most of the time you spend resting so you can talk to other people and figure out problems together.

The hard part is finding a sport you like and are good at and going with it, but that’s the real motivation for fitness. I’m an endurance cyclist and for me riding across an empty desert alone is why I put in all the effort the rest of the year, to be fit enough to do well and still enjoy that moment. Having an intimidating event to work towards focuses the mind and effort,too

When you first start working out, use no/light weights. Just empty bar, or 5 lb dumbbells or something. Just to train yourself on proper technique. It's super important to get your form down

I don't know whats so complicated, you do the main starting strength lifts and some variants of them, 3x5 for the big compound lifts then 3x10 for accessories. Do rows or pull-ups instead of powe cleans, you get gains.

Weight loss and fitness are especially annoying because I think most people who want to try will have a friend, family member, or just acquaintance who'd love to help. Everyone I've ever talked to who's come out the other side has an almost evangelical drive to help other people do it too.
