Should I call the police?

Little bit of context..
I live in a block of flats in Scotland, there is a neighbour in the block that is selling uncontrolled substances.
I have seen the sales take place.
It really bothers me this is happening, there are tonnes of kids on the street including my teenager.
In the past a previous neighbour has mentioned they saw a junkie asleep in the block.
I've had junkies at my door, they press my buzzer to gain access.
Im worried about the backlash, if I call them, will said neighbour know its me. Said has kids.
I cant turn a blind eye, its happening right under my nose. It really bothers me.

Phone the Police and say they wrote a hurty tweet, SWAT team will be there in seconds dropping nuclear bombs on them
AdministrativeWeb485@reddit
Drug dealing on your doorstep? That's so unfair, I have to drive 20 mins for my drugs.
BALLCLASH@reddit
if it's weed - no
if it's crack, heroin or meth - yes
BeatificBanana@reddit
How would you know?
Dankbudz69@reddit
A stoner looks and acts vastly different to a crackhead, the former is likely to raid a fridge at midnight vs the latter holding an off license on knifepoint for cash.
kcudayaduy@reddit
Like it or not, weed is still an illegal substance. I don't hold anything against anyone who does it (I do think it should be legalised so it can be controlled by the government and get tax revenue etc.).
But the dealers should definitely get into trouble. Especially as OP said there are children on the block.
swallowyoursadness@reddit
I think it really depends on the situation with weed. Some weed dealers are anti social, often into or selling other drugs as well. These kinds of people should be reported if they're disruptive. Some weed dealers are very nice, normal people who are quiet and discreet and don't attract an unsavoury crowd. They should be left alone
throwawaybutohwell46@reddit
I know of one that's literally just a wee old granny trying to make a bit of extra cash for herself lol.
The_Blip@reddit
Weed is controlled, not completely illegal. You can get cannabis legally if you jump through a bunch of hoops.
Dankbudz69@reddit
Mind your own business…
deepspacetelemetry@reddit
I had this issue when some drug dealers moved into a top floor flat in the building I used to live ij. Suddenly had people turning up at all hours buzzing random flats to try and get into the building.
I complained to my landlord agents who did nothing so advised them I'd be giving my notice at which point they pulled the finger out and within the week drug dealers were gone.
I'm guessing quite a few tenants in the building threatened to leave and the various landlords decided they needed to take action.
ScaryButt@reddit
I think you mean controlled substances.
rojosays@reddit
No, the guy is selling rapidly decaying radioactive isotopes, that's why its so urgent.

I'm so sick of toxic "alpha particles".

TBF, the OP is in Scotland. It probably is an offence to sell healthy food there.

Call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. It's better to keep your children safe then have to constantly worry.
Training_Oven_3154@reddit
Is the junkie anything to do with the said neighbor. They are more than likely selling some weed or something. I’d slightly understand if it was Directly effecting you but it probably isn’t and your more then likely bored. Leave the guy alone. Everyone tryna make a living g
summerwine75@reddit
It is affecting them and would you want this going on around your children?
greatfloorboards@reddit
I've heard they're selling weight loss jabs on street corners in Edinburgh .
Error_Unintentional@reddit
My colleague lived in a block like this. It took 18 months to remove him, they searched the flat and didn't find any money but then found the stash/ money was actually in the ceiling tiles in the communal hallway.
Anyway just report things to the police but don't expect anything to happen quickly. These things are very slow but do need reported.
Western-Code-8711@reddit
If it’s weed nah, if it’s hard stuff then yeah.
No-Baby-417@reddit
Ive recently moved into a flat block, 2 kids. One being a 16 year old girl... drug dealers upstairs. Constant stream of horrific people, people smoking H on the stairs, weed, being spud, screaming out front all hours if the dealers don't answer, buzz all of our buzzers. They've said things to me, my daughter, while my 2 year old is present. It's horrific. 7 months ive been here (had no choice, landlord wanted to sell, and I couldn't afford private pricing these days for a 3 bed) anyway, I'm on the phone to the police every week, anti social. My ring doorbell catches everything (housing officer said to get one) and no matter how much evidence I sjow them, NOTHING seems to be getting done. One time I had officers come down stairs laughing with one of the said people who repeatedly has threatened us!!!!
Antisocial said hang on in there, he (the dealers) tenancy is up on January (12 month rolling tenancy due to Antisocial) but i am highly doubt it tbh!! It's a fucking mess.
Previous Tennant left because of this nonsense, and I highly suspect I'll be moved before. (Even though ive sunk so much money into decorating this place, and its RIGHT next to my work, my sons nursery too) eurgh
Waytemore@reddit
This sounds silly but write to your local councillors, local MP, local commissioner, and local press. Do it repeatedly. Make it their problem.
No-Baby-417@reddit
Oh, also, the day me and my partner came home from Vegas, there was human SHITE all over the back entry door. (:

Oh please, wind your neck in.
LittleSadRufus@reddit
We had this in our Edinburgh tenament. We put up with it until the dealer started beating his girlfriend in the street, and I called the police as an emergency to intervene. He was arrested and ultimately went away for dealing not the beating, so I guess they looked into him more closely. I do wish I'd called before it was an emergency.
thebuttonmonkey@reddit
They got Al Capone for tax fraud
No-Kaleidoscope1662@reddit
I read that as "artificial intelligence" and thought it was a Reddit joke I didn't get 😅😅
thebuttonmonkey@reddit
Ha. Sounds like a joke Futurama would do.
schwillton@reddit
If it’s any consolation they probably wouldn’t have done much, if anything, before it became an emergency
StrictDelivery6462@reddit
"I can't turn a blind eye"
You literally can. Victimless crime!
Disastrous-Chest8945@reddit
Yes and no. There's a bloke I buy weed off, small time dude, lives on PIP, basically just sells weed so he can smoke it for free, doesn't really make any money, does it all himself (no gangs, no children) and doesn't get involved in any violence. I would argue what he does is a victimless crime, but even that is somewhat a ropey argument. Indirectly, there are victims. Where is he buying it? Where do those people buy it? I'm sure if you follow the money trail, it ends up somewhere unpleasant.
What OP describes doesn't fit my very subjective, quite loose definition of victimless. It sounds like they're selling hard drugs like h and crack. The countless families destroyed by those drugs, the individual lives of the users also destroyed. Where does heroin come from? Hint - it's not your neighbour's poppy field. People who take heroin are addicted to heroin. I don't believe in free will anyway, but even if I did it would be hard to argue that they take smack because they have free will. Those people are victims.
liltrex94@reddit
As a former substance abuser, I would report this. I had no idea of the impact that it had on communities until I stopped taking drugs.
You can report it anonymously, I think the non emergency police no is 101.
If there is an emergency situation (someone gets aggressive, ODs, or is looking to be unstable) call 999.
You should not have to live in such conditions.
RQCake@reddit
Of course you should.

I lived in a tenement flat in Glasgow years ago and the guy on the first floor was a dealer, proper steel door with a wee window and all that. But he made sure to come out and help my pregnant girlfriend up the stairs with her shopping every time.
I think he thought we would turn a blind eye. Or maybe he was just being nice.
He got raided by the police soon after that anyway.
StrictDelivery6462@reddit
He helped your pregnant girlfriend you ratted him out? What a cunt
Dependent_One6034@reddit
You look at pretty much any successful Mob, or gang today or in history gone by.
They look after and protect their local neighbourhood. This does 2 things, prevents people ratting on them (potentially) and also builds walls where the community may talk to you in private, for example if anyone was snooping around.
Sudden-Possible3263@reddit
I lived in a rough block of flats for a bit, downstairs was the dealer who dealt to the dealers, in the middle was a couple of small time dealers dealing to fund their habits, we were on the top floor and had a balcony and I loved sitting out just watching the comings and going, there was always entertainment that's for sure, they were all great people, then another dealer moved in across the landing, he was a pure scumbag who tried to break into the house thinking we were out, he got a shock that day when we were in. They're certainly a hit or miss but the majority where I was were nice enough to have as neighbours.
StrictDelivery6462@reddit

Jay_CD@reddit
I'd mention it to the police - you can do this confidentially, you won't have to give your name or your address.
The chances are the local plod already know and are building up a picture of what goes on, who their suppliers are, whether they are dealers themselves or just buying some drugs and selling on part of what they have and using the rest for themselves etc. So don't expect instant arrests and sirens going off half an hour after you call.
If it's that obvious that someone is dealing - and it seems to be - then the informant could be anyone either in your apartment block or a neighbour etc but to protect yourself don't tell anyone you called the police and if anyone asks if it was simply feign complete surprise that there was drug dealing going on in your apartment block.
RemarkableMeeting883@reddit
Yes. Scotland got an issue with this sort of thing do your bit and dob in a dealer.
Kayant0@reddit
Report to crimestoppers, and makes notes of times dates and what is happening. Report to the council also. If you are in HA or council home you can reapply to them for alternative housing and use this as evidence.
SignificanceOld1751@reddit
Is there any violence associated with it? In which case yes, absolutely, or make an online report to the relevant police force if there's nothing actively going on when you decide to report.
If not, with the greatest respect in the world, mind your own business.
Gloomy_Guard6618@reddit
Call crimestoppers you can remain anonymous. I am guessing quite a few people live in the block I don't see how they can know it was you.
MechanicalTears@reddit
Depends what he is selling tbh. If it’s meth or h or crack yeah. If it’s bud or some shrooms etc nah
Sleepy-Otter_969@reddit
Say nothing trust me you don't want it They will know you snitched and put a cocktail through your door without hesitation
DisastrousPrompt9968@reddit
Don't know what the police are like in Scotland but if they're anything like ours you cannot trust them. My wife once reported the next-door neighbours grand-daughter to police ! The neighbour was a labour councillor . It turned out later a high ranking officer informed the councillor it was my wife. She pointed out to my wife the police carried out a forensic check and found no evidence of drugs . All the surrounding neighbours knew different, they all saw themselves a regular drug drop. So my advice don't get involved.

Don’t ask him, he’ll just lie and say it’s 10/10. You got wake up the junkie
Valten78@reddit
Depends on which controllespd substances we are talking about.
If it is some guys casually selling a bit of weed but otherwise not causing any trouble, I'd let it go. If it's harder stuff, and there are some unsavoury characters and associated antisocial behaviour as a result, then gather some evidence, and then pass it to the police via 111.
Vast-Heron8963@reddit
I wouldnt risk it personally if my teenager coukd be in danger!!If i had no kids i would 100%
Dotey_Doll@reddit
You can make a new email address specifically for reporting and report it that way.
EitherChannel4874@reddit
If its having a negative effect on your life (which it is) then you should feel no way about reporting it.
Your home should be your safe place. If someone's ruining that then do what you gotta do. I had issues with a group of alcoholics in the last place I lived at and the housing ended up moving me to a better flat.
First-Lengthiness-16@reddit
If you have a nemesis, report in their name.
What substances are being sold?
Additional-Nobody352@reddit
Crimestoppers or 111
Grouchy_Conclusion45@reddit
Absolutely report it, it can be done anonymously.
Only by people reporting them, can the scum who deal drugs be rooted out
No_Job_515@reddit
Dont get involved in this jesus christ , you trust the police to keep you 100% anonymous i dont 1 slip up form them and you could have your life ruined by some human trash thats isint worth the time of day .
Haunting_Average5784@reddit
Wouldn't it just be better to buy your gear locally anyway? See if he'll do a neighbours discount.
Sweet_Brunette32@reddit (OP)
I never thought of that! Cheers thanks for the idea 💡
Tammer_Stern@reddit
Crimestoppers is still a thing, I believe. You can notify anonymously.
blxdstxg@reddit
I’m having the same issue in my block of flats, someone reported it & nothing was done - junkie assumed it was me & tried to physically boot my door in, came back downstairs late at night and spread blood from his cut hand all over my door. I was watching on my ring doorbell and quickly bounced out and launched a tin of dog food straight at his face, not had any issues since
Western_Presence1928@reddit
Ring 111 from a phone box or crimestoppers, make sure you give the right adress and name, and state you wish to remain anonymous.
Sweet_Brunette32@reddit (OP)
Cheers peeps!

Controlled substances.
huskydaisy@reddit
The only way to garuantee anonymity when reporting a crime is to use crimestoppers. Unfortunately by reporting anonymously your info will carry far less weight since the police can't use you in court.
So it's worth weighing up how important it is to you to stop this vs how important it is to not get involved. Either way getting the intel to them (crimestoppers or 101) is worth doing as it may help inform their actions in the future.
alexwhit80@reddit
They probably already know. They deal in a car park across the road from my mum. She has reported it 5 times and it still goes on.
OneDmg@reddit
You can contact Crimestoppers if you want to make sure you're kept anonymous.
But you're under no obligation to leave your name with the police is you contact them direct. Just say you're a concerned member of the public.
That_Northern_bloke@reddit
