I'll say it, Boomers are worse off than the worse off generation.

Just watch Golden age of Xbox 360 timeline by crowbcat, new gamers would not know how good it is, in that era every genre, rts, fps, tps even Minecraft is released in that era. Peak of gaming in 2008-2012.
ronmex7@reddit
Is this just gonna make me depressed
hoseex999@reddit
I'm alreday depressed forever since the death of RTS and I just enjoyed RTS for like 3-4 years before it stopped becoming a thing and no one even cares about it nowadays.
TobiChocIce@reddit
There's an Indie RTS resurgence happening now! Tempest rising, DORF, Dying Breed, Global Conflagration are a few, there's more on Steam, these all seem more closer to the old command and conquer RTS
hoseex999@reddit
Yea tempest rising is good, haven't heard others, so thanks and i will look about it.
But also im just sad that i probably not gonna experience real person actors in games with actual fun gameplay anymore, I haven't seen other memorable game casts like kane in CNC or the high budget actors in RA3. Or just conplex and worthwhile
Even people without playing RA3 will still have fun watching RA3 dialogue
I will escape to the one place that haven't been corrupt by capitalism.... SPACE!
That's the aura of games in that era i think is hard to replicate.
TobiChocIce@reddit
Yeah I totally agree with you it's sad we wont get stuff like that again, I missed the old FMVs so much, Red Alert 2's were great and 3 topped it with Tim curry there.
Because those games already exist it would be a hard thing to make something similar in the right way without over doing it and not being goofy/enjoyable :/
I also assume any new games being made would try to be serious until the genre is re established well enough, I've noticed with boomer shooters now the genre is well established, it seems like we're getting some less serious ones (Zortch, Brutal John, Hrot, Fallen Aces) So maybe that'll happen with RTS games!
Silirt@reddit
Obama's first term? Why does it always seem to go back to that? Did Obama make the games better just to make them worse later?

Resident Evil 4 came out in 2005 and is never really bettered by games that come after except that the 3rd person controls are slightly improved on what came in RE4
hoseex999@reddit
I just played RE5 , but meanwhile demon/dark souls released in that period and created souls genre and minecraft created sandbox building genre, even Terraria is in that window. You could see the peak of AAA and the rise of indies in that same period and before mobile games are a thing.
Zeus1131@reddit
Pisses me off that I only recognize fortnite here. What are the top ones? Looks like pokemon (its not) zelda and some zombie game maybe
melechkibitzer@reddit
Chrono trigger, ocarina of time, resident evil uhh 4? Idk one of the resident evils anyway
oneinamilllion@reddit
Majora’s Mask, not OOT.
melechkibitzer@reddit
You probably right i was wondering why hyrule field looked weird. Didnt take the next step to MM for whatever reason

Crono Trigger, Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 4.

ShillingSpree@reddit
Pretty sure that is majora's mask and not ocarina of time based on time dial.
Sleepy_Gary_Busey@reddit
Hrmmm probably I don't fuckin know.
reddit_has_fallenoff@reddit
I havent gotten a console since PS3, and this being one of the reasons. When i grew up, graphics actually got better, so it made sense to get a new console.
Told myself ill hold off till VR games become an actual thing (and not whatever they are now) to get a console. Looks like i will be waiting a long long time.
zeek609@reddit
If you have a PC then I'd strongly suggest picking one up, UEVR let's you play any Unreal Engine game in VR.
Fallout 4, Skyrim, Oblivion Remake and Cyberpunk 2077 are reason enough to pick up a headset and would keep you busy for a long time.
the_pwnererXx@reddit
you can experience the same thing with a tab of lsd
reddit_has_fallenoff@reddit
Literally a comment I said before your post. Obviously great behinds stink alike.
reddit_has_fallenoff@reddit
ya no doubt there are still a lot of good games coming out. It just sometimes feel like were sold the same tech, just repackaged (at least in terms of consoles).
Sometimes i think about how in the movie the matrix they talked about technology being stalled once it gets to a certain level to keep us at the "peak" of civilization before we get cucked by machines.
Is that were we are?
horiami@reddit
the portable pcs are pretty neat, i was very impressed by what the steam deck can do and it's already quite old
having access to a good chunk of my steam library and being able to emulate everything up to the ps3 is great
zeek609@reddit
That's kinda the point of VR though, the Ps3-ps4 pipeline was mid but switching from 2d games to VR is at least as big of a leap as OoT was back in '95.
matsis01@reddit
zeek609@reddit
While I agree Fallout 4 is the worst of the series, the motion sickness is nonexistent for me.
SergeantPancakes@reddit
I’m still a little pissed that basically no headsets use eye tracking with foveated rendering yet, considering how much that would boost graphical quality/framerates especially on a standalone headset like the meta quests
zeek609@reddit
I don't really use stand alone, I played RE4 when I first got my quest but I only really play PCVR or flat screen games as a giant floating window.
Dr_barfenstein@reddit
Saw the psvr2 on special today so I went googling. There’s games for it… but there’s really not many that are “must buy” or that people are raving about.
beefsquints@reddit
I bought one on sale and there are a ton of unbelievable games for it. GT 7 is unbelievable.
ronmex7@reddit
What's good? Mine is just a single-purpose GT7 device.
beefsquints@reddit
I haven't had it for long and I had to get the cluster to really start playing, but I've really really enjoyed Moss and the Horizon game it came with. I've also played a little bit of that Star Wars Tales game cause it was free.
nondescriptzombie@reddit
It really is unbelievable how willing Sony was to ruin their keystone franchise to be more like Forza.
Ayuyuyunia@reddit
re8 on vr is pretty fucking awesome. definitely one of the best games i’ve experienced
reddit_has_fallenoff@reddit
Fr? Guess i gotta check it out
HoodsInSuits@reddit
I have a meta quest 3 and there's a lot of cool stuff for it, but it seems like it's so hard to design a game with camera movement that is engaging while not giving me (and others based on reviews) motion sickness. It feels so dumb to say but my number 1 game on there is tetris: connect. The visual design of that game is so good, so it actualy makes the full field of view worthwhile over just a tv.
reddit_has_fallenoff@reddit
DMT has figured out how to give you VR without motion sickness. Playstation just needs to get into the drug business already
OcGolls@reddit

batiwa@reddit
Yeah, Zoomers started with the PS2 which i think was the start of the golden age of gaming
i_like_southpark@reddit
They barely could form a sentence when ps2 was in their golden age tho
DecoyOctorok24@reddit
This. The oldest zoomers were like three years old when the PS2 launched in 2000. The first console generation they experienced fully cognizant would have been PS3/360/Wii
ToddtheRugerKid@reddit
Uh. Do you think older consoles magically vanish or something when new consoles come out and EVERYBODY buys new ones? -born 98 and played on the original Xbox and PS2 plenty.
DecoyOctorok24@reddit
There’s a difference between that and being cognizant of the buzz around a new console launch, which would’ve been the seventh generation of consoles for Gen Z.
Zephyrical16@reddit
Eh not everyone had the latest and greatest back then. PS2/GameCube survived well into 2008/2009. People around me and myself included didn't get a Wii/PS3/360 until 2009 or so.
DecoyOctorok24@reddit
Sure, I’m just saying that the seventh gen would’ve been the first console era that zoomers would have been fully cognizant of when they launched in 05/06. Obviously plenty of us were still playing on discounted sixth gen hardware at the time. You could get GameCubes for like $50 around 2007 or so.
batiwa@reddit
True, I always mess up the threshold for gen Z between 95 and 97
CeliacPhiliac@reddit
Only the oldest of the zoomers grew up with the ps2. Most of them probably had a Wii.
aj_thenoob2@reddit
The PS2 is as old as Gen Z. Older genz started with Xbox 360, most remember the Wii though.
PrrrromotionGiven1@reddit
It wasn't as easy as you might think. When you're young you can't tell which games are good or bad. I grew up with a PS2 but owned basically none of the "classic" games everyone loves because I spent 5 mins in Blockbuster and then picked a game with a good cover, or from a franchise I recognised like Sonic or Crash, and that was all the info I had on the games I was getting.
You needed to be a little older to actually benefit from the PS2's cracked library.
idlemachine@reddit
There were magazines to find out about good games though. Some of the magazines even came with some older PC classics. I played Morrowind for the first time like that.
lordxi@reddit
I played Morrowind because Tom pimped it on Toonami... thanks, Tom!
Atompunk78@reddit
I’m gen z and I started with the Wii, you’re right
Gemini_Of_Wallstreet@reddit

kaninkanon@reddit
Zoomers being unable to recognize that calling everyone younger than them a zoomer is just a response to zoomers calling everyone older than them boomers. Classic.
cell689@reddit
Younger zoomer as well
Fisherman_Gabe@reddit
Both Roblox and Minecraft are much bigger than Fortnite tho
NiuMeee@reddit
25 year olds are playing Roblox? My siblings do but they're like 12.
Zephyrical16@reddit
They did when they were also 10. Roblox game out in 2006 and gained major popularity around 2009-2010.
NiuMeee@reddit
But the comment above says Roblox is bigger than Fortnite among zoomers and I just don't see that. Not today.
ErwinRommelEz@reddit
Both are great games with their own mods, roblox gets insane shit
LKRTM1874@reddit
Where does this concept of zoomers only playing games recently come from? My childhood memories are of Rollercoaster Tycoon, SimCity 3000 and Dungeon Keeper and 10 years later I was playing GTA IV. It’s not like we didn’t also experience the transition from sprites to full 3D models.
Millennials have become so out of touch they don’t know the difference between Gen Z and Gen Alpha
EducationalProduct@reddit
what year were you born
LKRTM1874@reddit
98, so older Gen Z
EducationalProduct@reddit
so literally the first year of gen z lol. yeah, of course you feel some overlap.
RCT came out in 1999 so either you were building theme parks before you could speak or you just grew up on older games.
GTA4 came out in 2008 - you were 10 years old with a 360 playing this? can you recognize the uniqueness of that?
gasman245@reddit
First year of genZ is 97 not 98.
HanzoMain63@reddit
I was born in 99 and my first console was the GameCube. I think I got it like 7 years after release because my parents didn't want to spend a lot on those evil video games. I don't even know why stores were still selling the thing until like 2007-2008 here in the EU. Mario Kart Double Dash was fucking awesome tho, best one by far.
After that I got the DS, the Wii and then a gaming PC. So as an older zoomer I just experienced the whole golden age in light speed lul
LKRTM1874@reddit
Fair point, I think I was playing these sorts of games from the age of 3 since it's memories from a house I moved away from by the age of 4. I guess I'm more lenient of say, a 2/3 year old game since we live in this era where a lot of the most popular games are pushing a decade old in comparison.
In regards to GTA IV, I would agree with you but GTA Online has taught me there are many, MANY 10 year olds playing GTA, so I don't think there's all that much uniqueness in me playing GTA at 10.
estou_me_perdendo@reddit
If you're a thirdie your first games will either be on ps2 or emulated stuff most of the time

I remember playing RE0 on a GameCube in Summer of 03. This was after years of playing RE2 and 3 on Playstation. Even comparing 0 to Code Veronica on Dreamcast was night and day. It was so detailed, immersive. Like you were playing a motion picture.
Those leaps in development paired with story telling and character immersion has not been topped since then. Games got better, more people played them, but partly because of nostalgia its an unmatched evolution.
Imagine going from Doom to Doom 3 in less than 10 years as a gamer.
