Single motherhood rate used to be around 5% regardless of race, social class, or whatever else. It's now around 30% for white women, 55% Latina, and over 70% for black women.

Reason: Welfare state implemented by LBJ in the '60s after JFK was killed. If household income is < a certain amount, you get free money forever - just keep income low. Rate went up more for darker skinned people because the '60s were very racist and they were less able to get good jobs because of it.

A good way to qualify regardless of skin color is to be a single mom and remove the man's income from your household statement to the IRS. The divorce rate is now approaching 60%, almost 80% of which are filed for by the woman. Most common reason: No reason. This is allowed by no-fault divorce which was begun by dems in CA in the early '70s and spread east like the fungus growing in yo momma's crotch.

It's an obvious ploy - give dems your vote, and they'll give you free taxpayer money. Give GOP your vote, and the money might be taken away. When looking at the statistics for how well children do, it's basically two options: raised with or without the biological father. Those raised without - whether mom is single, has a boyfriend, or remarries to give the kid a stepdad - have a much higher instance of every possible negative life outcome: More likely to become criminals / teen parents, more likely to have alcohol & drug problems, more likely to have mental illness, more likely to hurt themselves and others or to end their or others' lives, less education, less income, and most importantly, less happy & satisfied with life.

So basically the single motherhood rate and born out of wedlock rate might as well be the same thing, given that they have the same outcomes.

That’s probably more or less true, but using overall counts instead of per capita still significantly exaggerates the data. Also worth noting that part of the reason there were no single mothers in the 60s is because if an unmarried woman got pregnant the baby would often just be adopted out right after birth (source: my grandma had a baby like that in the 50/60s and the rest of the family didn’t know until around a decade ago) so it wasn’t exactly entirely due to a lack of shitty fathers

It's kinda hard to give a significant final percentage on the issue because "single parent at birth" can just mean "out of wedlock, but then they got married", or "out of wedlock, but then the parents live together, unmarried", or "out of wedlock, and then the single mum married with another dude" (my wife's son).

That being said, there is a trend of single parenthood increasing, faster than anywhere else. We have one of the highest rate of single mothers in the world (this time I mean houses, with only one parent, no second adult involved). Out of all the single mums: roughly half are divorced/separated, 2% widowed, and 33% have never married.

I opt for the first interpretation. How is something as transactional as trading financial resources for companionship considered a "moral value"? The majority of divorce is borne out of women's upward mobility and freedom to live outside of this vaguely coercive dynamic of "necessity", aka performing domesticity in return for security, a sort of employer-employee relationship.

But "no longer necessary" I think is a bit reductive. Men and women still need each other in other ways. But because our forebears grew up in the old world, they weren't incentivized to discover what those things were, so they had nothing relevant to pass on to their sons. That's why I think the culture is the way it is now.

You wanna know why half of single mothers are divorced and the other 33% have never been married? It’s because women these days are trying to out-speed run their biological clock. I think it’s pretty easy to tell that the majority of young women these days are trying to speed run motherhood before they’re even to their 30s.

I’m not sure why this is happening, maybe it’s social media or maybe it’s how we’ve learned that pregnancy later in life is more dangerous for the mother, but it certainly is happening. It’s truly a societal problem that both men and women need to figure the hell out.

There's truth to this but single parent homes have a much higher chance of raising shitty kids so it goes poorly either way. And I dont think divorce being easier nowadays has had a major effect people splitting up.

I know a few families where they stay together regardless either because of kids or how hard it is to really split.

Also with the rising rates of substance abusers, mentally ill people, etc then the general population being more dysgenic and damaged is in turn gonna result in a lot of the parents and kids being damaged too. A lot of the stuff is connected

I think the idea that single parent households create bad outcomes for kids is reversing cause and effect. Unstable, dysfunctional people tend to be less likely to successfully stick out a marriage, and will produce poor outcomes for kids regardless. The question here is whether it would be better for them if their parents stuck it out.

I come from a fairly conservative, rural background; not the kind that kept farms and ranches, but the kind that lived in trailers and did odd jobs for the former. I've seen a fair few families which stuck out marriages that should have disintegrated, and the horror stories I've heard from the children of parents who didn't want or were even equipped to raise leave me inclined to believe that separation is preferable.

Plus, the parent is usually the mother, who is likely a promiscuous woman of loose morals. As a result, in such conditions, cheap and unintelligent labor grows up—people who don’t ask questions and are willing to work for food doing anything, just to repeat the same cycle after work: drinking, having children, and so on. That’s exactly what those who run the country want. Cheap labor. That’s why they support it. No abortions, single mothers? Okay. Having many kids? Even better.
