chances are that they are kids. there was a recent viral post of kids in africa doing this and it was like 100x worse than this... this is just one laser, imagine 50+
It's more about the country, not the city. I totally understand your response though; there's no need to get outraged if someone says "Africa", but I do try to use moments like that in conversation to ask people to clarify the country because it's something we (the royal we) outsiders tend to do. It's an unintended bias (by design) to refer to a specific African country as just "Africa" in conversation and it's something we don't do NEARLY as much with other continents. It's an observable behavior.
Once we're made aware, I see making the effort to recall or specify the African country as a tiny form of resistance against that colonialist lens in which this linguist habit originates!
That said, I can see how the way the OC brought it up was dickish, and I personally think snark is a condescending way to try to "teach" someone something. Anywho. I wanted to add my two cents as to why I think they brought it up in the first place. I'm also obsessed with linguistics and history lmao sorry ty for reading my novel 😭🙏 cheers
You mean liberals. But yeah, insufferable. I'm on the spectrum and English is my second language so for better or for worse I hyper fixate on these things!
you have to understand that this is india we are talking about.
the grandpas and grandmas are busy reading their newspapers while the 30-50 year olds are busy and burnt out from their job. the college kids are too busy looking for internships and the high school kids are fed up from entrance exam preparations.
that leaves only the middle schoolers and younger kids who are free enough and have enough resources to be able to do this.
most people are either middle class or too poor to afford a laser pointer as a toy.
that's definitely igi I forgot about the forest....I guess the plane took a turn after the take off that's why I got confused....BTW I live in vasundhara
Not everyone know the effects of a laser on the cockpit.
If the people in countries like US, where General aviation is common and people fly often do it, rest of the word has little chance.
Unless there are widespread campaigns by aviation authorities, around the world enforced by ICAO, I don't think this is gonna stop.
If you are gonna comeback saying. "Well its common sense that laser blinds the eye", you have to remember how silly avg person can be. Silly person just want's to see if the green dot is visible on the plane. Or prank people in the plane with the light.
To be honest it would be fairly easy to pinpoint the exact location of the laser. You have a literal bird's-eye view of the whole map and OP already said this is Delhi. And beyond that it would be impossible to know who did this unless you hey your hands on CCTV footage from that area.
Not only relevant, but also the latest! Well job linking to the actual comic, and not just https://xkcd.com, which would only work for another 20-odd hours.
They just zoomed in on them with crazy expensive cameras, if its the same video i seen you could see them all in a garden drinking. They just kept the cameras on them until the police arrived.
Somehow on my first reading I was thinking you were talking about someone on the ground lasing the plane for a Paveway strike (even though I know a JDAM is inertio-GPS).
Which, yeah, the reverse makes more sense. But on the upside my brain got to word-associate its way to remembering that time an F-15E scored an air-to-air kill against a helicopter with a laser guided bomb, so that's fun.
Long story short; Mudhen crew spots a Mi-24 unloading some troops on the ground, so they decide to drop a LGB on it. To their disappointment, as they’re guiding the bomb in, they see the Mi-24 finish and take off. They still keep the laser on it though, and all of sudden, they see the Hind blow up on their targeting pod screen.
The problem is that it can blind someone, such as the pilot of the plane they’re pointing it at. You generally want the pilot of an aircraft to be able to see.
I will be honest here. I might be enticed to do this as well.
I will most likely end up not doing it, but the idea has crossed my mind a few times.
We did play a game with a friend, who lived in an apartment a few kilometers away, and we would use a laser to tell each other, when we wanted to play "Online Ludo" (Covid lockdown times, and we had to find ways to make life interesting)
But I never shined it on an airplane, because what if... I end up disturbing the pilot. :-D (Yeah, I know the planes fly on autopilot, but just in case)
I think this guy is somewhere around Ishika swimming academy in sec 55.
Swimming pool location is C4H4+QG9 Gurugram, Haryana.
And guy should be in the first row of House around the swimming pool.
I have see green laser on wall adjesent to swimming pool (i go for swimming there). It was high powered. I didn't realised the purpose on first sight, but later understood when saw lots of planes over Head in the sky.
Its probably a kid and its parents are also pretty stupid/bad people...
Civilian planes should be allowed to carry laser guided bombs for this exact reason. Maybe make it non-lethal like those exploding ink tags for shoplifters or pepper spray bombs.
Depending on the strength of the laser and how close we’d be to the ground, it could blind you temporarily or make you hazy eyed. It’s also a distraction during the critical portion of the flight which is when you’re supposed to be fully focused.
Plenty of idiots out there who do this and countless other stupid things too. I once had a guy who was flying his drone in the approach path of a runway and it almost caught my prop if we did not take avoiding action.
So with this in mind , why do countries like iran not have thousands of people shining laser pointers at idf jets ? I know it sounds bizarre but ive heard a few times how dangerous lasers can be for pilots so i have always wondered why they are not used more for this purpose. Do the jets fly to high , do they have some protective coating on the canapy or is there something else I'm not considering?
Those fighter jets also travel at double speeds of commercial jets and can manoeuvre faster than commercial jets, it’s difficult for laser guys to aim.
They actually do, there’s been instances of lasers being pointed at planes and jets in the Middle East but it’s all a nothing burger. This is because Air Force and jet pilots have these helmets and visors that costs tens of thousands of dollars. The F35 helmet costs $400,000 per unit per pilot and they have a some pretty advanced features that protect pilots from the lasers and what not.
That makes sense. I figured there had to be something different that made them ineffective and the helmet and visor makes perfect sense. Thanks for the explanation 👍
Friendly reminder that it can probably fry your camera sensor in your phone (depends on wavelength/power/fikters/ sensor). Unless you actually really need to be recording this for evidence or internet points, knowing that someone is going to be pointing a laser within spitting distance of a camera is a good reason to put that camera away.
India does not have clearly defined laws for such act as of now but the person in question can be detained for reckless acts of endangerment of civilian lives. In short, there's not much that can be done plus people are generally poorly educated about such issues in Third World Countries.
