The goose men review the expensive version of Ford's affordable ute. Lobo seems like it's going to be the ST-ish trim for Ford trucks.
Fun fact: In Mexico Ford has branded F-150s as the Lobo for a long time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ford_Lobo_Single_Cab.JPG

Mark: no one is cross shopping a Maverick and a GTI
Me: literally torn between a Mav, a GLI, and an Outback XT
JackShepardJohnLocke@reddit
Same! I love the outback’s bigger cargo, but I love the little truck too. I’m so torn
Bebealex@reddit
Which one do you have the least chance to want to change for a few years ?
SavageGooseJack@reddit
Depends on what you want. If you can get a gti i would take one over a gli however
Krossrunner@reddit
GTI feels tiny compared to the GLI. That’s the main difference imo.
tablewithoutlegs@reddit
Thanks for popping in! For whatever reason, the GTI is like 7k CAD more and the insurance cost is a good chunk higher than the GLI. I do like it and it is still in the range financially, just need to wrap my head around smiles per hour being as much of a utility as the Mav’s bed or the Outback’s all around niceness to have it in that budget bracket.
Ecsta@reddit
GTI is higher insurance cost because kids love to buy them and inevitably crash.
clutchthepearls@reddit
That's pretty common. Camaros are often more expensive to insure and Corvettes.
thecanadiandriver101@reddit
GTi is on a newer generation of MQB. GLI is still the old gen with a facelift.
UnderwhelmingAF@reddit
You can get a manual in a GLI but not a GTI, if that’s high on your priority list.
lostboyz@reddit (OP)
I agree with you, I don't think GTI owners is a very narrow demographic as other sporty cars. If you want something practical that's a little fun (in any direction) the Maverick is definitely in that list.
ice445@reddit
I had a 2017 GTI and my Maverick reminds me a lot of it. A lot of that same quirky charm. Similar performance even. The 2.0 EB scoots lol
rockinlock@reddit
I'd go GLI! But all three are cool options.
Key_Purchase_7390@reddit
The truck is rusty af
demowater@reddit
Love it, really I do.
But for the price, I can't justify it. It's too close to a Ridgeline. Toss on lowering springs and a wheel/tire set and you've got a sport truck literally a class above.
Drzhivago138@reddit
Is that Expedition grille swap (rectangular pattern) a Mexico thing too?
ScrollorNumlock@reddit
Is this video one big troll? Who would buy a truck to track?
star_trek_lover@reddit
I wonder how well it would perform compared to a standard ecoboost AWD that has summer tires and aftermarket suspension.
immortan_drew@reddit
Great. Maverick and Goose.
PhilosophyFinal338@reddit
Mexico, why you always so much cooler?
Alone_Peace371@reddit
In Mexico they think you get pink-eye if you watch a dog take a dump
OnlyAbbreviations256@reddit
40k LMAO!
SpaceghostLos@reddit
Can i get a mustang lobo? Big wheels, slammed, big sound? 😆
caterham09@reddit
I still can't get over that at the price Ford is asking, you don't get a special drive train at all.
If they had put the 2.3l ecoboost in this it would have been a pretty cool package.
Shmokesshweed@reddit
It's a trim for juicing margins, so they didn't want to complicate the supply chain etc. It probably sells even less than the Tremor.
BlazinAzn38@reddit
They just don’t want to dedicate more lines to the Maverick which is a shame
caterham09@reddit
I get why they did it, I guess it just makes the whole thing feel half baked. It's a lot of money for a maverick with the same drive train.
Shmokesshweed@reddit
Yep, agree.
uberdosage@reddit
I mean, if I were to get any Maverick would be this one. At that price its still somehow a mid trim and cheaper than the lariat and tremor versions.
If it had a special drive train it'd be more expensive than the tremor which would be even more expensive and people would complain about that.
Skai1515@reddit
Yea, 310hp would have been nice
OreeOh@reddit
In Mexico, the performance half ton is the Lobo F-150
ScipioAfricanvs@reddit
This is actually….kind of interesting? I agree with Mark that the value prop might not be there but it’s an interesting truck for sure.
spooksmagee@reddit
Agreed. I'm not a truck guy but this has me intrigued as a fun runabout.
madevilfish@reddit
I love the idea of bring back sports trucks. I love how this thing looks. But the lobo feels like a half hearted attempted. A different drivetrain would have been nice with a lower ride hight. Maybe an ST version will come at so point.
In another video Edmund’s tested the lobo against the maverick Lariat. The lobo lost is in just about every performance metric.
FalseBuddha@reddit
At the very least it could have a roided up 2.0 instead of literally the bog standard drivetrain you get on every other Maverick. Adding the 2.3 is probably too much to ask, but an intake, exhaust and a tune doesn't feel like a stretch.
SUPREMACY_SAD_AI@reddit
Mark is a jabroni
againstliam@reddit
Bring back the street truck scene!
The pricing makes sense for the equipment they added. Value per individual varies. Tbh I like the Maverick and another option that is more street oriented is pretty cool.
SHHHeng@reddit
Wheels are a little too big.
