Where to move to - Hastings or Margate?

I've visited each place before and I liked both, but in terms of which is better to live in, what should I go for? For context, I live in East London and I'm an out of work film/tv person (like the majority are atm) and I cannot afford financially and mentally to live here on a minimum wage job, so sadly I'll need to leave for the foreseeable.

Newhaven is getting better but still shit enough to be cheap, and close to Brighton. Out of Hastings or Margate I'd pick Hastings

Neither.. move to France it’s cheaper
TheChunkyScale@reddit
Where in France are you and what do you do?

I’m in the uk, we can’t afford to rent anymore let alone move to France. We have family there any it’s so cheap in comparison they have found

That's understandable. I am constantly mind blown by how different the cost of houses are there, compared to stuff here.

There’s sufficient ex-Londoners in Hastings for an acronym to develop:
FILTH - Failed In London Try Hastings

Ah, a reuse of the old one from my Far East days 30 years ago. The H was for Hong Kong.

If I had yo choose, I would choose Hastings. Town has a nice vibe to it, old town as well as new town areas.

Hastings is alright, a lot of chavs and crackheads but I guess that’s everywhere. Town is good if you vape, want a coffee or a haircut though😂 I love Hastings and its history, the people ruin it😂

I used to live in East Sussex and would visit Hastings fairly frequently. I quite liked the old town, but not so keen on the main town centre. It's easy enough to get into London from there if you need to and Brighton is within easy reach as is the Kent coast to the West. It does have a reputation for being a bit skeasy and to be honest I think deserved. Personally I think it's nicer than Brighton, although there's a lot less going on.

Bravo 👏👏

Both nice enough if you have plenty of cash and both grim if you’re on a tight budget.
Margate is “enjoying a moment” currently, yes, but the above point fully remains.
