My bf and I made this jar for a souvenir and tonight we discovered these. We are in Nags Head, NC (Outer banks) Any idea what they are? I have some very up close photos but I can only attach one thing to the post

They look like juvenile sand fleas. Any chance you can still release them? They will not survive in a jar for long (limited oxygen, food, etc.) and could make a stinky souvenir!

It would probably be better to just collect dry sand for your souvenir :)

Or honestly not collect anything. Take only pictures, leave only footprints.
Removing things from their environment, even sand or dirt, degrades the ecosystem

You guys are excessive to the point of being pretentious. She took a jar of sand assuming nothing was in it, you can take dry sand from the beachwithout "degrading the ecosystem" jfc.

i mean it's also illegal in many places to take sand from the beach, so it's also just looking out for OP's best interest in general. i don't understand the frustration.

Find someone to enforce that and realize why its so corny to comment it.

alright

Why would my day be bad?

Your point is valid sir people are obnoxious!

Taking a jar of sand and water with a few sand fleas does nothing. I take more of these when I’m fishing and use them as bait. Do you know how fast they reproduce?

Sand fleas most definitely
