I'm from Oklahoma and I love in n out. I know lots of people not from the west coast who love it too. So it's not just "hive mind west coasters". It's all about the cost to goodness ratio. It's cheaper than any other fast food restaurant and the quality is consistently way better. Their "secret menu" animal style option is the main thing I love about their burgers. Their fries are really good to me and you can't get freshly cut and fried French fries at other fast food chains. They're all frozen.
They need to add more chemicals and preservatives or something because the fries are genuinely the worst thing there. I’ve been a few times and every single time been criminally underwhelmed.
They’ve got way better burgers to me than anywhere else. When I had In and Out the first thing I thought was “is this just five guys with steak and shake fries for the west coasters?”
I've never had in and out. But it's like any other fast food place, different regions think theirs is the best when it's the same thing somewhere else just a different name. Lol. Like chick filet. Never had it until last year. I thought it absolutely sucked. I'll take KFC any day over that garbage. Lol
In n out double double with animal style fries and weinerschnitzel 4 chili cheese dogs and a large fry is my go to fast food meal. It’s a good thing those 2 joints aren’t anywhere near where I live.
There's an In N Out across the street from Willowbrook Mall in Houston, TX. I've taken my truck plus 53' and parked in the mall parking lot, then walk to get food.
About the only place I know where I can get In N Out when I have a trailer attached.
I don’t know how many times I’ve had In-N-Out, but every time it feels like a treat. I wouldn’t argue that they make the best burger, but they certainly make my favorite.

As an east-coaster that has never had In-N-Out, I am getting really close to flying out to LAX, have lunch, and fly back. I just want to try it
Dezzolve@reddit
I’ll save you the trip.
Burgers are decent, but the fries are super mid.
If you use fresh ingredients you could literally make a comparable burger and fries at home.
I’m convinced the hype behind In-N-Out is just a hive mind of West Coasters convincing themselves everything they have is better than anywhere else.
On the east coast you could find a Cook Out (name of a burger joint) and have a better experience at a lower cost than what In-N-Out charges.
Whataburger is Burger King tier while we’re on the subject as well, just with green chile.

I stopped dastardly food awhile ago because I fell into the trucker trap of food and while that burger looks sublime those fries look like trash.
Be careful with trucker food my friend it's a slippery slope to heart issues.

Haven't eaten fast food in years but as a California native I would definitely have to stop at least once if I found myself back there.
