What’s the most monotonous daily task?

Currently working on overcoming my insomnia, internet addiction, body dysmorphia, propensity for isolation, romantic obsession, bizarre food rituals, negative self-talk, low self-esteem, fear of intimacy, compulsive personality, and inability to let myself live in peace - and it’s got me wondering what your most boring daily task is?
Mine has got to be brushing my teeth. I do this multiple times daily, and despite it taking the least amount of time out of the above, I feel like I have to drag myself through it.

Putting the laundry away.
Washing it, fine. In the machine, add the potions, press the button. Drying, no problem! Either hang it on the line or shove it in the dryer. Folding it, happy enough. Bring it into the living room and fold while watching telly. Carry the clean clothes in the basket upstairs that night on the way to bed, simple.
But getting clean clothes from the laundry basket into drawers or the wardrobe... that is the trouble. I put the pants in the drawer, then lift them out again one by one. Hang up a dress only to lift it out again in a few days.
mazrimtaim_@reddit
This. We have spent money on built in wardrobes to create a dressing room. It looks great but there are currently 5 laundry baskets of clean clothes sat on the floor in front of the wardrobes and I know they will likely stay there for the next two weeks.

I have an elderly, forgetful and mildly incontinent dog. Every morning at about 6am, she needs to go outside for a wee. As soon as she's back inside, she forgets that's she's been outside and needs to go out again. And repeat. Our record is nine times.

Breathing. Breathe in, breathe out. Over and over again. It never ends. Same goes for heartbeats. And shitting.

Washing dishes.
VOOLUL@reddit
Dishwasher is humans greatest invention. Never wash dishes again.
DevilishlyHandsome63@reddit
I like washing dishes by hand, find it quite relaxing. Bet it takes no longer than loading up a dishwasher, doing the cycle, then taking it all out.
JohnRCC@reddit
Specifically, washing cutlery.
I sometimes think the basin becomes a bottomless pit of forks, spoons and knives under the suds.
MattyJMP@reddit
I got myself a Google Home that sits on the kitchen windowsill. It's used exclusively for cooking timers and for me to watch YouTube on while I'm washing up. I quite enjoy it - 20 minutes after dinner to put something interesting on as nd relax.

Dishes.
I fucking HATE dishes.
I cannot wait to own a dishwasher one day.
tasi671@reddit
I'm procrastinating doing mine right now. They've been piling up all day but our kitchen is too small to have a dishwasher. Got one of those counter top ones and I'm lucky to get a few plates and a bowl or two in.
medarling@reddit
Washing up just never ends and I despise it.
I’m sorry you’re struggling with daily tasks at the moment. It gets better
maxaaaaamilillion@reddit
Picking what to make for dinner every fucking night! I don't mind the cooking but deciding what to make sucks!
cmdrxander@reddit
We started planning our meals for the week (well, Sunday to Thursday at least) and that takes some of the drudgery out of it, but every weekend we still have the “what shall we eat this week?” which can be tiring
DanielReddit26@reddit
I don't understand how people manage to not do this?
Decide the weeks meals > make shopping list > buy stuff > cook meals.
Do people just buy random bits then try to make a meal every night out of it?
cmdrxander@reddit
When I was at uni I would buy general cupboard staples and just make whatever I felt like that evening, e.g., bolognese, curry from a jar, pizza, beige oven meal, etc.
Now the recipes are a bit more complex and we use more fresh ingredients so a bit more planning is required!
DanielReddit26@reddit
Yeah, i guess I wasn't including my uni days... if nothing else i had the time to pop to the shop daily and pick up mince/chicken/fresh stuff to make those above dishes. Or otherwise just have pasta in a jarred sauce or something else terrible.
maxaaaaamilillion@reddit
Yeah, I've tried that but it's just me and my 2 girls so I still get the "I don't know what I want to eat on Wednesday" 😂 but maybe I'll give that another go!
cmdrxander@reddit
Maybe something to try is coming up with a list of options even if you don’t necessarily pick which day, then on Monday you can say “which of these would you like?”, and by the end of the week you can say “we’re eating this tonight because that’s all we have left”
buginarugsnug@reddit
And it’s even worse when you’re missing one ingredient and have to go to the shop!
Milky_Finger@reddit
I've tried so hard over the last ten years to have a "eat to live, not live to eat" approach so I don't have to panic every time I get hungry. Problem is, every other person in my life absolutely loves to eat and wants to share that love with me. I appreciate them for including me but I really am just fine with some chicken and rice if I'm trying to keep my figure for the summer.
VOOLUL@reddit
I use Gousto, works well for me. 5 meals a week and get to try new stuff. Not for everyone but it keeps my meals interesting and I don't have to worry about grocery shopping.

Our toilet hasn't been working for about 3 weeks now so we've been using newspaper and a plastic bucket. Very humbling and reminds us of our roots and primal design. Really made us rethink life

Having to stop doing tasks to have to prepare food then go back to whatever it was. It would be so much quicker to paint a room etc if you didn’t have to stop to eat.

Taking out the rubbish. Struggling with depression it is the hardest thing to do and so boring. Clean up, bag rubbish AND go outside. Get a grip

Emptying the dishwasher is pretty boring and thankless; up there with taking out the recycling.
At least brushing my teeth leaves me feeling better - so I don't see any problem with it.
sv21js@reddit
I dream of having a dishwasher to empty.
_ShredBundy@reddit (OP)
I get an odd satisfaction from emptying the dishwasher, usually because it creeps up on me when I’m wanting to put dishes in, so I don’t have a choice.
It’s emptying the washing machine and loading in to the dryer that I feel will ultimately land me in therapy.
cmdrxander@reddit
Daily, I would say wiping the surfaces, but it’s a necessity when you’ve got a cat
Weekly, it has to be putting the bins out. Mostly because I only remember to do it at like 11pm when I just want to go to bed

Yes. I do pretty much all of the cooking in my house. Its great when you have lots of free time and energy.

I imagine getting home from work in like 10,000 BC and realising you need to get your spear and hunt a bison, is the equivalent of not having anything in the fridge today.
redmanshaun@reddit
I feel like I've read the women actually done alot of the hunting so I'd send the wife out.
I'll cook whatever she brings back.

I used to LOVE cooking. Found enormous pleasure in trying new recipes, sourcing good ingredients etc. Now I have a 4 year old and my energy is so zapped, and it's a real thankless task trying to cook meals the whole family will eat! I'm hoping it'll become less monotonous again in time...

If you've got kids it's a mix between washing dishes and clothes because it's a never ending task. Think doing the dishes once a day is bad, now do it 3-4 times and the pile never gets smaller.
My personal hell is hoovering, but I know a few who find it cathartic.
