Keep 5700x3d or upgrade 7800x3d / 9700x microcenter bundle

Hiya, I recently upgraded an old ryzen 1400 to the 5700x3d this past December paired with a 7900 xt and 16 gb 2666 ram on an old b350 mobo. Microcenter's AM5 bundles with the 7800x3d or 9700x look good but am not sure the upgrade (\~$500) is justified or just stick out for AM5+/AM6? Thanks!

It's kind of amazing how much am4 keeps giving and giving. Imagine getting in with a 3600 - using that for years and then upgrading to a 5700x3d. So much value.

Or those of us that got in with a cheap B450 and Ryzen 1600 during the 2000 series.

You could probably sell current combo for decent money to offset the new one. I don't think it will be a huge upgrade but it's something, and you could also upgrade am5 later on since they probably will release one more cpu range on the am5. Kind of make sense actually when I think about it.

I’ve got two systems one with a 5800x3d and a 7900xt and another with a 7800x3d and a 7900xtx. The difference at 4K is not worth the cost of full upgrade to am5.

I upgraded from a 5800x3D to a 9950x3D and the main improvement that I don’t fully understand is that with my AM4 setup I had a lot of “VRR/gsync flicker” on my monitor in a lot of games, and that all went away with AM5. I think that is because my 1% lows fps is better, but I’m only guessing.

Stick with what you have
Oh a 7900xt, there will be no difference

5700x3d is still 250usd worth. Sell it and get the bundle! From your B350 mobo and RAM you could build a server or emulation machine! Add your old CPU and maybe get an RX 580 (about 80 USD) and your old pc is a great option for some fun setups.

If you're at 1440p+ then they are more or less equal in performance except some rare cases. So keep 5700x3d, Its absolute monster.

I have a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and I have no intention of upgrading until the year 2030.

Nah just upgrade your ram while it's cheap. Sell 7900xt. Get 9070xt or 5070ti

If you really need something right now get 32 GB of good RAM.
Your CPU is beefy enough, I would keep it for now. Unless you're seeing some obvious limitation we're not - say, for productivity stuff. In that case the 9700X would be one hell of an upgrade.

5700X3D’s still a beast, especially when paired with the 7900 XT. Unless you require very high refresh rates or perform demanding tasks, it may be more beneficial to wait for AM5+ or AM6. Consider saving the $500 for a more significant generational upgrade.

Your issue is the 2666 ram. 2x16gb 3200 or attempting a 3600mhz kit will make that CPU fly. And it won't cost like buying everything else new..

Treat yourself to 32GB of 3600CL18 and call it a day.
The 7800X3D is a notch better and a notch isn't worth $400-$500+
